World License Plate redesign *Caithness and Manitoula*

I have started to get some fresh ideas for new plates so as a filler, I will post this.

If anyone has seen that I started a new Concept Thread - click here -, you will know that I have this idea of an imaginary country which will have, hopefully, an entire batch of sports leagues. The city I used to demonstrate it was Johnstonville and that city is in the Province of New Ontario. So here is a quick simple plate for that province.

and here are the flags. The first being the National Flag and the second being New Ontario's Provincial Flag and the last being Johnstonville's City Flag.

According to Wikipedia, Northern Ontario was also known as New Ontario in the early 20th century. I remember going to my local sports museum (Thunder Bay) and I think I saw an old football/soccer trophy for New Ontario.

Another direction you could go with this is having Northern or Northwestern Ontario as a separate province called New Ontario.

New Ontario isnt in Canada, Its a province in my imaginary country. Its named after Ontario but I didn't want it to have the exact same name as there is an Ontario in California as well. The main colours of the province are Cookies and Cream and thats why it is the way it is.

Wait, is the Indiana flag in your sig also a plate for your country?

I thought that it might have been your Indiana redesign, and I couldn't figure out why there was a maple leaf on it nor why I couldn't find it here.

Yes, it is the flag of Greenfield, New Ontario. The stars under the line represent the number of boroughs within the City. The maple leaf is on the top left of most flags - similar to the British flag being on Commonwealth countries' flags. It's a sister city to Toronto, with friendships with Lisbon, Melbourne and Manila, but is named after the small town just east of Indy - one of my favourite places, I know, I'm weird. Since it is in the Province of New Ontario, it will be using the Brown plate as well.

That being said, the redesigned Indiana plate will be similar to the current one but with more gold and just cleaned up a bit.

Here's another tide over. It's all the Main Plates for the Western States.
This should give you an idea on how different each state's plate looks. I don't think any of them blend too much.
Also the Registration Stickers are placed on each one in the traditional/recommended location. I underestimated the size of the sticker so for Nebraska and Montana, the sticker is narrower to reduce any overlap onto the Numbers/Letters.

so I'm gonna need a little help with this one. I like the colours, but it just looks old. Maybe the execution is off, maybe the border can go, I don't know what it is. At first, I liked the half Pelican, half Fleur-de-Lis divider I made. I tried to use the 2 most popular symbols of Louisiana while still keeping the look simple and not obnoxious. But, somethings off and I just cant think of any good ideas for Louisiana without going crazy on a Mardi Gras design.

Let be know your thoughts, this is not the final result, so don't be offended Louisianans.

I guess the only thing I'll change about Louisiana is separating the fleur-de-lis and the pelican. Maybe the fleur-de-lis being a divider and the pelican on one of the corners.

By the way, I like the little collage of the primary plates for the Western states!

I like the New Ontario plate, even though it's pretty much a recolored version of the current Ontario plates. Like the unique colors!

By the way, are you thinking about redesigning Canadian plates when you finish the American plates?

The Pelican was an after thought so I may just scrap it for just the Fleur-de-Lis.

And yes, if my creativeness is in full swing, I will tackle them. But it wont be that interesting. Alberta, Ontario, Quebec, NWT and Nova Scotia will all be similar to the current ones.

But first, I must finish the US and I'm dreading it :(

So far I have Arkansas, Missouri, Iowa, Illinois and DC finished. Working of Wisconsin now, so I may break the order and just do random states that I have ideas for.

I tried to make Louisiana fancy, but I failed. But since most of their older plates were bare minimum, hopefully this is good enough.

The Fleur-de-Peli didnt really work, plus I think fusing the Fleur-de-Lis with anything is overdone it seems, so I just used a generic Louisiana style FDL.
I think removing the gold border helped make the plate look classier and more modern at the same time.

I know I'm probably not going to get a good response from this one but after hours of no ideas, I came to this design and I really like it. There is a current special plate that says "Wild and Free" at the bottom and from certain angles, it looks Purple and Blue so I basically based it from that. I wanted to touch on the Las Vegas scene without straying from the rest of the state. I think the colours are vibrant enough to give off that nightlife feel, but could also represent the numerous Conspiracy Theories that have occurred in the state. I used silver script because its the Silver State. The Sagebrush logo from the flag appears in the bottom left. The state shade is used to divide "The Silver State" and "www.n v.gov". And just above that is a sublimation of "BATTLE BORN" which appears on their flag and is also one of their nicknames due to them becoming a state during the civil war.

The current plate looks horrible in my opinion. There are mountains, the Sierra-Nevada Mountains to be exact, however those mountains are barely in the state. I understand that you can see them from the state, but it's kinda stupid to have a Californian icon on your license plate.

The second biggest city in the state is in the Sierra Nevadas. The state's history basically begins in the Sierra Nevada Mountains as well. They're kind of a big deal to the state in terms of existence.

I grew up in Northern Nevada, and I know I'd hate to have to see that plate every day. Especially if they tried to justify it by saying the purple represented the Vegas night life.

Silver and Navy, that's what I'd like to see. No gambling gimmicks, no desert scene, no confusion.

so you want me to drop purple? as mentioned, it really doesnt mean anything towards Vegas. If you look up pictures of a sunset in Nevada, that's what makes me think of this plate. But also UFO's and strange extraterrestrial mumbo jumbo reminds me of it. And then Vegas' nightlife reminds me of it. The point was that it could mean many things throughout the state instead of just one location.

You mentioned that the Sierra Nevada is important, but then again, its somewhat contradictory as those in Las Vegas might not want to look at it. Sure there may be Reno and Carson City are the east part of the mountains, but when you look at a map of the mountains itself, you have maybe 1% of it inside Nevada. If it was strictly in the state, it would be more appropriate.

But who am I to say anything as you are from there/lived there so you know better than I. Anyway, the main point I'm getting at is that the Purple/Blue one represents every part of the state, the Sierra Nevada doesnt. That was my goal for this thread, to appeal to as many as possible while using the least amount of alternate plates. Also having a Blue with Silver characters plate would blend too easy with Utah and possibly Oregon to an extent, as well as having Michigan as a Blue plate with white characters.
If you mean a Silver based plate with Blue letters, I could try that but I would worry it would be too similar to a dirty California plate.

well Arkansas was really... um... interesting? Right away, the flag idea jumped at me. I made the diamond into a plate shape and just moved the stars around and here you go :P
There is still a sublimated diamond with the stars flipped to shape like a diamond. The diamond stars are also the divider.

I do like this plate but I do have a feeling everyone else will hate it.... oh well, here it is. Go ahead sharks, tear it apart!

Not bad for Louisiana. But, realistically, it wouldn't fly here. Those colors are pure "LSU" through and through. There are definite pockets in Louisiana that would absolutely HATE using the color scheme for the plates. Maybe go the route of using the state flag for inspiration.
