World License Plate redesign *Caithness and Manitoula*

I'll have to agree with you on Alabama; it just doesn't look good, in my opinion. And sadly, I don't have any suggestions except maybe emphasizing more on the Heart of Dixie theme.

South Carolina is beautiful! I've always loved their state flag and the plate is nice, clean, and simple.

I like the overall design of the Ohio plate. However, I suggest some changes for the sublimated flag. I suggest either remove it altogether or sublimate it on the red strip. That way, you can have the sublimated flag while keeping the white part of the plate clean.

I'm starting to get worried though, I seem to have a lot of solid coloured plates. Does it look lazy? Because I am putting quite a bit of effort in each but most times I opt for the simple, legible look. Maybe I'm playing it too safe. Let me know your thoughts on this.

I wouldn't worry about it. If it looks good, it looks good. Plus, it's not like that's the only thing that you've done. You've got plenty of skylines and state-related patterns as well.

Yeah I wouldn't worry either. Solid plates usually look so much nicer than light colored plates with subtle images in the background. It also makes it easier from a distance to tell what state it's supposed to represent.

Alrigthy, I will just remove the Ohio flag. On my phone it almost looks pink too so it's best to just delete it... Yet another boring plate haha.

Also, this thread will be a worldwide License Plate redesign/fantasy thread. The plates will be in the standard North American 6in x 12in templates because lets face it, Euro/Australian sizes don't leave a lot of room for much design. Some plates may statr looking similar to the American ones but at this point, I think I have done about 130 plates so the ideas are running quite dry (thats why I have steered away from Alternate plates, most of them I save and use for another location if I have no ideas for that location.

I have a few Canadian plates finished and I have finished all of Australia's so I will post those once the US ones are finished.

NJ has pretty much stayed the same. The off Yellow fade to Buff look is gone and a simple plain Buff coloured plate is what is left. Everything else stays the same, same font, same nickname. Nothing really special.

I need some ideas for Virginia. I am pretty stuck. I hate everything they have and I'm sure there are a few I havent seen so if anyone has some suggestions, feel free to send them.

New Jersey is better now. I never understopd why "Garden State" is in a different font than the state name on the real plates.

As for Virginia, it's quite a tough one. Try mixing the Chesapeake shore and the Blue Ridge Mountains along with maybe some nods to the military presence on the Hamptons.

I try my best to keep the fonts the same, or at least similar (Sans-Serif State name with Sans-Serif nickname). The current one is bold and almost draws attention to itself before the state name. I basically look for the plate that looks like someone pee'd on it and I know its NJ lol.

Virginia is a very eclectic state; Alexandria/Arlington, Richmond, Roanoke, Hampton Roads all have different characters which is probably why their plates are so plain.

I wanted to make an all black plate since I have none (hint hint, Australia has a black one) so could this possibly work for Virginia? even though you are a west coaster haha.

I've been lurking in this thread for a while, and I just wanted to stop and say great work! I've always been fascinated with license plate designs since I was a little kid, and I'm glad somebody's doing a thorough, well-executed thread. This is a project I'd like to tackle sometime if I get around to it. So far my favorites are Hawaii, Mississippi, and Texas. The Mississippi plates remind me of Nebraska's we had a few years back (something I'd like to see return in the future):

I also love that you're using solid colors for a lot of these, which really give each state it's own look that would be immediately distinguishable on the road. Keep up the good work!

thanks a lot CAB.

GiantsFan, Deleware is already done and its not black :P Virginia did have a Black plate from 1940-1970's I believe, So I'm probably going to go that route; however, I may have an Alternate plate as well.

Up next is West Virginia. I think this is one of the cleanest looking plates out there, so all I did was clean it up.

I haven't been posting here since I have been working on other things.

I'm not too sure about this one. I really wanted to use the Dark Red and Blue look even though it bleeds (that was the point) but it may bleed to much. So I have made a white version similar to their current one.

Let me know if you think their is some salvaging the red one.

I like your cleaned-up version of West Virginia. However, I can't say anything more as it's practically identical to what they have now.

I like the modernization of North Carolina, especially the fonts. May I suggest a combination of your two plates so it has a dark blue grass and plane and a light blue sky with a white font and serial number? I wanna see how that looks.

I think you're done with North Carolina.... you knocked it out of the park on your first shot. Everything you've posted since has been a downgrade.

My favorite is the light blue on blue, but I agree with your concern that it would be too difficult to read. I would stick with your first one, though the darker blue/blue combo is very close behind.

I think I'm leaving NC as just the white ones. I fooled around with more colour changes to the Alternate, but it ended up just being random colours that it almost had no relation to the main white one.

I have a question for y'all though. I have all of Australia finished, and Ontario, Quebec and BC finished. I still have to complete Virginia, RI, CT, Mass, Maine and Vermont, so would it be okay if I start posting some other states/provinces before I finish the US?

I have been busy with other things, lost a bit of interest as well. I just want to keep this thread updated with material.
