MLS Commissioner Don Garber yesterday said the decision to award Qatar the '22 FIFA World Cup and the potential that the event may have to move from summer to winter because of weather was a "monumental disaster" for soccer worldwide. He added that he hopes the event is moved. "We certainly would be happy to host it here and have a lot of big stadiums that could turn it around and host on very short notice," said Garber, who spoke on the opening panel of the '14 IMG World Congress of Sports. There are allegations of bribery of senior FIFA officials before the voting by the FIFA Executive Council. I am hoping this farce is finally brought to light, the crooks and frauds are brought to justice, and the 2022 World Cup is awarded to one of the other two bidders from that year. FIFA is going all "NBA/Seattle/Sacramento" on the 2022 WC.They had the potential to bank more money nominally with the United States because of all the developed stadiums already in tact here, with the advertisers in place, and with the generally-median climate in American cities during the summer (compared with the potential of 120-130°F summer days in Qatar). But of course, the whole bid and its aftermaths FIFA encountered-on with Qatar had more-to-do with wanting to exploit impoverished and menial-class citizens of the host country in the pursuit of greed. Most of the FIFA World Cup sponsors are based in the US, the infrastructure including stadiums, air ports, major commute systems are already in place but require some "minor" upgrading, the temperatures here in North America are a lot more tolerable than the 120-130 degrees F in the Middle East. It's as ifthis Brazil chaos hasn't been enough of a wake-up for these FIFAidiots, and both Russia and Qatar will (most likely) be a much higher up-hill battle for both FIFA and the rest of the world to deal with. I honestly think that the US hosting the men's and women's Cups five years apart in the 90s was an abberation.
