i think we might get a weird final then (something like, Turkey VS Nigeria) since i think a lot of the UEFA countries will send there B or C teams (i just don't think that the Premier League and the other top leagues in Europe wont shut down for 6 to 8 weeks)

unless FIFA give them extra money and says 2030 is in Europe.

They don't have enough money to pay off the clubs in Europe.

I'm all for this.  The Qataris literally paid off FIFA brass to get the world to watch their event in 2022, so why not make it 50% larger so that they can REALLY show what they're all about on a world stage?

As for the competition itself, a 32-team format or a 48 won't matter, because the end outcome will be the same.  Croatia is an aberration and not the new norm.  The finals will likely be some combination of the Germans, Argentinians, French, Brazilians, English, Mexicans or some other traditional soccer hotbed.  What I'd like to see in Qatar?  A Cameroon vs. United States final.  Simply because that's what the event deserves.

2022 is going to be a :censored:show any way it plays out - 32 team format, 48 team format, 192 team format, it won't matter.  They'll be lucky if a player doesn't wind up dying on a pitch.  You know the world's press will highlight how many people have died already in the name of building these stadia they're going to use for this farce.

I guess the quota of Sub-Indian or Southeast Asian indentured servants, err workers dying during construction of stadiums, training venues, roadways and hotels hasn't been met yet.

Huh?

Mexico has made the quarter-finals of the World Cup exactly twice, in 1970 when they hosted and in 1986 when they hosted. They’ve never gotten past the round of 16 outside home soil.

Sure, Croatia is a small country, but it’s a small country that’s now made two semi-finals in the six years it’s been an independent nation eligible to compete in the World Cup, and before that, it was part of Yugoslavia, which reached two semi-finals itself and six quarter-finals (well, technically five quarters plus the second group stage in 1974, which consisted of the last eight teams).

Croatia in the final is a lot more natural than Mexico in the final would be.

November-December in Qatar is usually mid-80's and 90's. Fans may fall over but players shouldn't. African, South American and Asian teams will benefit the most early due to aclimitization. All club competitions have to halt on Oct. 27 so for MLS, USL and CPL players that make the playoffs they may face the biggest issue of being too banged up for the World Cup.

There's probably a 0% chance Qatar gets stripped of hosting. How unfortunate.

If they bump up to 48 teams in 2022 you'd probably see another country brought in to help host games. 80 games across 9 fields in a 30 day period would lead to a lot of damage. The biggest issue for Qatar at present is it's options for co-hosts would most likely be African nations and not Asian countries since they're squabbling with a few OPEC nations.

FIFA makes a somewhat sensible, but not the correct decision. They have decided not to increase the amount of teams for Qatar to 48.

* - The correct decision is to still move it from Qatar, but FIFA's married to that albatross now.

There was no way Qatar could do 48. I still say they move it (since the US is off the table, I would suggest Australia and New Zealand (together) or the UK as the most "ready on a short notice" nation that could take the World Cup), but that's incredibly unlikely.

I think the biggest issue was finding a willing partner to help them with 48 teams. They've been at odds with their neighbors for a multitude of issues not related to soccer. I still can't see where all of the current 32 teams will fit as it is right now, let alone around 1-2 million fans.

FIFA's planning an expanded Club World Cup in the summer of 2021 as a way to make up for money lost by not having the Confederations Cup. While that shouldn't truly affect Qatar, the only way they don't have the World Cup there is the Saudis and Egyptians level it, which won't happen because they still get a split of their oil money.
