Rite of Spring '14: Can you fall asleep with a panic switch?

Oh, just shut the :censored: up.

---

What a series. What a playoff run. This one is special for me personally, because I've been watching the whole season and all of last season, unlike 2012 where it was just the postseason.

I want to say that I didn't comment the whole season or post season (even though I read nearly every page) just because I didn't want to seem like that one irritating bandwagoner (if you know what I mean), even though I don't consider myself one anymore. Strange, but I felt like I wanted to earn my keep. I didn't want to engage in smack talk, especially with fans who've been fans for f***ing years.

See kids, this is how you do it.

Thank you. Respect and props.

Goodbye, Hockey Night in Canada. I shed a tear in the name of Dick Irvin and Don Wittman for thee.

Hockey on weekends will never be the same again.

Like NBC/NBA 2002 and NFL/NBC 1997, something I grew up and associated with the sport is gone for good and things will never be the same again. Rogers has some Bob Lanier-sized shoes to fill.

CBC gets the NBA/CBS ending- Closer than the 4-1 5-game series will indicate with an unforgettable ending. Alec Martinez is this generation's Vinnie Johnson.

I'm so glad I took my buddy up on that extra ticket. What a freaking game! Of course the Kings close it out in that manner.

It's nuts out here right now. Just a sea of black and some purple. I admit I'm not a huge hockey fan, but I appreciate how tough these guys are and I gotta support the hometown boys. Go Kings Go!!!

Your buddy just happened to have an extra > $650 ticket. Lucky bastard ;)

The true winner is wheateater. Brendan flew down here all the way from Saskatchewan and was in attendance.

Yeah, the guy is loaded and whoever was supposed to go backed out. He is a Clipper fan and the only reason I got to go to some of those games this past year. I'm blessed for sure.

Well again it was indicative of a season of Sharks having horrible mental lapses at the most inopportune times. One could even look at how they played against Buffalo this season...

Just imagine how Sharks fans feel.

This image will be forever ingrained into my brain:

Speaking about the article earlier: As a Sharks fan, I still want Jumbo to a part of the Sharks team. I would also say most Sharks fans probably still want him as part of the team. However the team needs to not worry about reputation so much. I could see that after game 6 that the Sharks (sans Stalock - the dude is always on) just let their reputation right back in the arena. So ignore that moniker, or wear it as a reminder, whatever helps them focus on getting to the Stanley Cup Finals and winning it.

Yeah, sounds awesome. Sounded great in 2006, too!

Oh, there's still Hockey

Go (Texas) Stars!

Ah yes, the Calder Cup. A championship series in hockey with the 2-3-2 format (something I always found interesting).

If only the NHL Network would do a better job at promoting and transmitting the series.

Hockey Night in Canada's send off. Amazing as always.

This is hockey, folks.

This national broadcasting finality ranks up there with the other well-noted sports-TV network montages of the past:

NBA on CBS:

NBA on NBC:

NFL on CBS (NFC-era):

What I liked about CBC is their whole "nuts and bolts" approach to hockey. Unlike at NBC, where they prefer processed drama for their network before the sport itself, CBC wants the game to come first before the addition of the drama aspect to the game. It won't feel the same once Rodgers begins their production of the HNIC coverage. For shame, indeed.

With this being said, I'm interested how ESPN and Univision will send-off their coverage of the FIFA World Cup when the current tournament in Brazil ends.

Ultimately the Rangers just had too former Blue Jackets.

I guess it's time to change the signature and av.

I genuinely feel good for Marian Gaborik. He wanted to be a part of the Blue Jackets turn around and they couldn't find a place for him. The Stanley Cup champions made use of him just fine. We're :censored:ing idiots.

As far as our first foray into the playoffs, it was fun and I got to see the first home playoff win in person. I hope to do it many more times. It would be nice to win a series or two. Looks like fun.

The Smythe goes to Justin Williams.

Not a knock on him but in my 27 years of NHL fandom, he is the first "non-star" to win it.

Cam Ward won it in 2006. He was a back-up that no one ever heard of, until midway through the first round. After that, he hasn't done that much since...

There's also Claude Lemieux, Bill Ranford, Mike Vernon, and Butch Goring.
