Is this clear enough?

Without context, what does this logo design look like? Client says there's been some confusion as to what it is. i can only see what I meant it to be, so I'm wondering if anyone else agrees that its unclear.

I'd say a boater-style hat or a button.

I'd lean more towards the button though, as it seems a little too round for a hat. The thicker line where the horizontal meets the vertical at its base (if that makes sense) makes me think more of a button, as well.
