2014 NBA Playoffs

Presti and Brooks deserve blame, so don't leave them out. Brooks does not call plays and just has Westbrook and Durant dribble for 9-11 seconds at a time and Presti traded away James Harden, failed to amnesty Perkins (so far), kept Sefolosha who is afraid to shoot at $3.9MM, and only has perimeter bench players who want to shoot in old a$$ Caron Butler and even older a$$ Fisher.

Presti deserves blame for trading Harden for pennies on the dollar, but Bennett is at fault for not amnestying Perkins and for settling for the bottom-of-the-barrel old role players because he's cheap.

Now whereas the Pacers just need to get a little better and smarter, the Thunder need to do some serious soul-searching.

The Thunder are closer than the Pacers. They routinely beat quality teams in the playoffs. What have the Pacers ever really accomplished? Their success has been entirely derived from drawing weak opponents in the East and then getting a Heat team against which they match up well.
That may be true, but let's not forget that the Thunder's bar is a lot higher than the Pacers. We talk about the Pacers in terms of just getting to the Finals. We talk about the Thunder in terms of winning it all. Remember, the Thunder have already been to the Finals, were already on the verge of breaking through and becoming the NBA's next big thing. The Thunder have further to go because their ultimate goal is an NBA title, and anything less is a failed season. The Pacers haven't gotten to that point yet, a Finals loss would still be considered a major step forward for them.

Basically, the Pacers are just a team trying to reach the next level. The Thunder are a team trying to make history.

Tradition is the foundation of innovation, and not the enemy.

They are both teams with expiring windows. The OKC “window of opportunity” is shrinking while the Pacers' is still a bit unknown. While the Pacers have $50MM in four starters (Hibbert, George, West, Hill), Miami only has one player under contract for 2014-15 in Norris Cole, and who knows what the Bulls will do with Boozer and the rest of their roster. WAS played well, but they still have the same coach, the Nets are old, Toronto has free agent issues, but Miami still has Pat Riley and an very underrated "Filipino" Jackson aka Erik Spoelstra.

I may have said this in the NBA Offseason thread, but every free agent with the ability to opt-in for the 14-15 season should do so because the TV contract is going up thus the salary cap will go up too, and a 15-16 contract should reflect that increase more than one done this off-season.

OKC has to deal with the Portland in their division, HOU in the Southeast and the Clippers with possibly the Warriors from the Pacific. MEM is a mess; MIN is a mess: DEN is a mess, no free agents want to play for the Mavericks, and after this year, SAS could be in flux with both Duncan and Pop, because they will leave together.

Most importantly, for those who want to fire Scott Brooks, which coach is available to take that job which will make them so much better that they return to The Finals (or win it)? I don't know who.

...but fear not, pundits will continue comparing Durant to Michael Jordan.

Russell Westbrook and Kevin Durant do compare to some NBA Hall of Famers, however.

A lot of people aren't excited for this Finals match up. But I like the story line of everything that is good about the NBA against every that is bad about the NBA... the fundamentals against the showtime... the epitome of TEAM against 1 or 2, maybe 3 individuals... old against young. Hopefully, it's another classic.

You have created your own narrative or are just lazy.

MIA is an older team than SAS.

MIA is the most efficient team in the league and has been so for the last two seasons. Bosh has changed his game to include the corner 3, something which they asked him to develop when he was hurt during those games he was out in the 2011 playoffs.

I loved those jerseys.

IMO,they are horrible! Purple Mountain Majesty unis are better.

Considering the prevalence of copper in the design, I'm surprised there never was a copper alt (with shiny fabric to boot). Also, I'm a bit more of an optimist when it comes to Durant/Westbrook comparisons. I see this:

There may be rings in their future, but there is the distinct probability that only one of them will get a ring, and that it'll come towards the end of one of their careers (hopefully without a Sampson-esque flameout).

not to mention, the corner three is a great shot to utilize when you have a dominant post player, which lebron has slowly been transitioning into.

not to mention bosh and wade have both allowed lebron to lead the team and become alternate options.

this is a team with ray allen and shane battier.

the idea that miami is a team of selfish guys that don't play the right way is so laughable. where do you guys get this stuff? why can't heat detractors dislike them for understandable reasons like "wade's had a bunch of dirty plays" or "lebron flops" or "birdman's look bugs me" or "the fans seem to treat them as if they're watching a .500 ball team", etc? to paraphrase the great philosopher joakim noah, "they're too hollywood." isn't that enough? why are people always manufacturing these fake basketball reasons to hate this team?
