2014 NHL Offseason

Looks like career journeyman Zenon Konopka has been banned for 20 games for using PED's.

Can't say it's helped him much, last time he's gotten over 5 points in a season was 4 years ago and he's never held a postive +/- in his entire career.

He released a statement saying that it was something over-the-counter that he didn't vet properly, not hardcore steroids or anything. The sucky thing for him is he was barely hanging on in the NHL as it was; I can't imagine teams will be rushing to sign him to a contract (he's a free agent July 1st) knowing that he'll be banned for the first quarter of the season.

Well, going into his defense as a former Senator (for some reason, he still sucked when he was here) he was an exceptionally good faceoff man who posted a near 60% success rate over his career.

Only he didn't do well after the draw, and he was kind of a goon who's forgotten how to get PIM's, down 219 minutes in the past three season.

Sharks already making moves. Boyle and Havlat will not be returning and they are going to move Brent Burns back to defense.

Martin Havlat was a disaster for the Sharks. This might even be the end of the road for him, barring some kind of low-risk-high-reward gambit from a team like Winnipeg or Long Island. It's too bad. He was a delight to watch in Ottawa. Boyle is just plain old; that the Sharks are "announcing" the departures of both feels like an announcement that water is wet.

I can't believe there are still dead-enders in this world who would have preferred keeping Havlat over getting Hossa.

♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫

So apparently, the Pens have fired their GM Shero, it's not like he's ever done anything for the team ever right?

They also apparently fired Bylsma, and Pens fans are already calling for Torts. Oh the fun we'll have next season.

This might be the end of players going to the World Championships

http://espn.go.com/nhl/story/_/id/10950905/alex-ovechkin-suffers-apparent-leg-injury-ice-hockey-worlds

Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin suffered an apparent leg injury on Sunday at the ice hockey world championship.

Ovechkin was taken to the hospital, Russian coach Oleg Znarok said after the game. Ovechkin appeared to sustain the injury to his right leg in the third period of Russia's 3-0 win over Germany. He required assistance off the ice and Znarok said he could not "share any information now" about the injury.

"We are aware that Alex Ovechkin sustained an injury during today's game versus Germany," the Capitals said in a statement. "Our medical staff is working with Ovechkin and Team Russia to gather additional information at this time."

Ovechkin collided with forward Marcus Kink midway through the third period and stayed on the ice for several minutes before he needed assistance to leave the ice. He struggled to put weight on his right leg and did not return to the game.

Bold Prediction: Connor McDavid will be wearing red, white, and blue next year in DC.

R.J. Umberger has requested a trade and the Jackets plan on moving him if they can.

and his enormous contract will be tough to move. He's got 4.6 million for the next three years.

Apparently he wasn't happy with the handful of healthy scratches he got down the stretch and to that I say stop being bad at hockey.

Blues ink Elliot, 3 years/$7.5M

Dici bye-bye, Miller!

Yeah so about that...

Blues ink Ryan Miller to 13-year, $480 million deal. Jesus Christ.

This is worse than the luongo deal

Another goalie controversy. Great. I think we know what will happen..................

I've heard Miller's contract is heavily front loaded so he'll be able to attend as many Rick Astley concerts as he wants after the Blues buy him out.

the Blues are never gonna give him up. Miller better never let them down, or else St. Louis will run around and desert him.
