I'm assuming the Patriots changed to this wordmark from the one used in their previous Super Bowl appearances because of their logo being in the endzone instead of a helmet or AFC/NFL logo. Also I'm going to assume the red outline was removed from the Giants wordmark for a similar reason, and I can't remember if the workmark used at Giants stadium also went without the red outline, but I think it was just the white wordmark and nothing else painted in the endzone.

Correct, The Giants endzone for this SB and the one in Indy went with the white lettering as the "NY" logo had the red outline. I would assume the same for the Patriots as well as the "Flying Elvis" logo was prominent in both the endzone and the Team box!

This field had so much memories, as this was at UofP stadium and was the first SB field I actually saw with my own eyes (from its spot outside the stadium.) Ironicly the actual grass part of the field was donated to Moon Valley High School in Phoenix, AZ. And is still one of the best HS fields in the state (outside of the Field turf fields) to this date.

Super Bowl XLIII: February 1, 2009 - Raymond James Stadium, Tampa, Florida

Pittsburgh Steelers - 27         Arizona Cardinals - 23

Super Bowl XLIII field without team boxes:

This was the first Super Bowl to have the current NFL logo, and one of two to have this NFL logo and the old conference logos.

This will probably go down as a classic Super Bowl, maybe not as much as XLII, but this game had its share of big moments and twists and turns.

Arizona got shafted. Santonio Holmes didn't get both feet in bounds and since the Force Out Rule was discontinued, the TD shouldn't have counted.

The two feet were down in the second picture, probably not in the first, so the question becomes control of the ball. But the official is right there and would have had a clear view of both possession and the two feet down.

Either way this was way to close to overturn the initial rulling

Granted, I think Pittsburgh would've had a few more shots, because I don't think the TD throw was on 4th down. That I can remember.

It would have been 3rd down from the 6 with :35 seconds to go. It would most likely at least been an overtime game with a field goal if they didn't score on third down.

Though I live in Phoenix, I was just happy with a great game. And the last 10 miuntes was some of the greatest in recient SB history. First AZ getting that long drive and scoring the TD. i thought my neighborhood was going to explode, Then with Pitt answering on a "classic" drive of their own. And AZ nearly coming back. They where around the 40 YD LN If I remember. and had a couple of shots. Cant really fault anyone. Just a very good game, with an NFL classic finish!

You would've probably seen Pittsburgh maybe running the ball to get towards the center hash to make what would've been the game-tying field goal easier and would've probably prevented Arizona from doing anything with the ball.

I forgot to mention this with the Super Bowl XL logos, but the Steelers wordmark from Super Bowl XL and on is actually slightly different than in past Super Bowls, being that the older wordmarks had more rounded letters, and the yellow/gold was a bit darker. Another note with the Steelers logo, the endzone logo for the Steelers was slightly smaller for Super Bowl XLIII compared to XL and XLV.

The Cardinals wordmark was the second and last to have the city/state included.

I think it was just easier for team because their team wordmark was "Arizona Cardinals", I think they just use "Cardinals" nowadays.

Hard to remember. I know there was quie a stir on the board back then, Mostly on the way the Cardinals wordmark would be painted. IMHO it looked better the the full State and team name for this instance. And if I understood it. If Atlanta had made the Super Bowl that year. It would have been just like the Cardinals one, but City and team name.

I think it had more to do with keeping the script look like it is supposed to be without getting stretched or shrunk.

If you look at the Broncos wordmark from Super Bowl's XXXII and XXXIII you can see how they stretched the lettering vertically to make it big.

The actually Broncos wordmark is actually short.

The Seahawks and Cardinals wordmark is similar, so instead of distorting it, they added the full wordmark that included city name to keep the proportions correct.

I can see that. The current Atlanta script is also very similar. So it also would have been about the same as well. Everything about the endzones for this game where very proportional!

Atlanta is another good example. And other examples that they DIDN'T put the city name in, mostly because it wasn't part of the word mark, the Ravens in Super Bowl XXXV and the Bears in Super Bowl XLI. They both had huge contrast in word mark styles with their opponents, the Giants and Colts who both have tall wordmarks. And the Colts one is pretty narrow.

Super Bowl XLIV: February 7, 2010 - Sun Life Stadium, Miami Gardens, Florida

New Orleans Saints - 31         Indianapolis Colts - 17

Super Bowl XLIV field without team boxes:

Spoiler

I remember being worried I wouldn't be able to watch this game because of a massive snowstorm that knocked out power in the DC area that week, and there was no way out of my neighborhood because the roads had not yet been plowed. Fortunately the power went back on.

But anyways, this field was the end of an era, the era of unique Super Bowl logos, and the old conference logos. The last Super Bowl that didn't feel like the Super Bowl is just another product that the NFL is trying to shove down our throats.

I think this game may have turned out differently if it wasn't for an injury on the Colts drive that ended with the pick-six. The play before Manning threw the game away, there was an injury that in my opinion slowed the momentum of a Colts drive that seemed destined for the endzone and a tie game.

Yea, Starting with SB XLV in Dallas. That is when the NFL went "Corporate" with the SB logos, and completed the transistion to the updated AFC and NFC logos. Now those logos are upgrades as the orginal versions where clunky and dated. BUT....The SB logos are just...boring now. I would love to have the stadium and geographic area logo on the field instead of just the Vince Lombardi Trophy and the generic logo emplacement. Very booring!
