The Dave Campo era in Dallas, with the Cowboys being stuck in suck at 5-11. Sure, these 3-straight years of 8-8 are bad, but these teams are far more talented then the Dave Campo teams.

Campo should've never been a head coach, but losing Aikman, Smith and Irvin in pretty much succession year after year didn't help his chances either.

Carlos Pena, Phil Humber, and Rick Ankiel being big free agent signings? Are you kidding me!?!?

They also had, bar none, one of the worst bullpens to ever play in MLB.

Atleast now they have improved a lot and are fun to watch.

Those are some wild stories there.

This current Phillies "era" is made worse considering this is coming after 5 straight division championships. Our GM has torn this franchise which wanted to challenge the Yankees and Red Sox as one of the most elite teams on the east coast into second division bonafide big-name losers. Bad moves, big trades, tore this franchise apart. From 102 wins to possibly (probably) 95 loses in 3 years has to be one of the worst things I've really ever witnessed. I try to look at the silver lining and appreciate being able to buy a ticket for dirt cheap, sometimes even in the lower bowl, but sometimes it can be depressing to see how far things have fallen.

• ALMOST lost to the Lions at home (would have been the first time since 1991)

• not much more needs to be said about that

Michigan basketball- 2007-08 (10-22)

Pistons- 2009-10 (27-55)

Red Wings- made the playoffs every season I've followed them so I didn't feel justified putting them on this list

Hmmm...I'll throw in a few minor league teams.

Flint: 2008-09 Generals

• 22-47-7, dead last in the "IHL".
• Started the season with Peter South as coach...then brought in Bobby Reynolds as co-coach, who was given final say over the team. South got the message and left (can't blame him).
• The Perani Group (ownership) practically gave up and stopped paying the players, stopped paying bills...stopped paying everything it seemed.
• Players evicted from apartments midseason because, surprise, team owners didn't pay the rent.
• Forward Mike Alexiou sues owners due to being owed thousands and a lack of workman's compensation for the players.
• Attendance, which was already in decline, collapsed to 1661 per game, easily the worst average since the 1980s.

The Perani Group dissolved after that season. The Generals returned for 2009-10, nearly folded midseason, but then made a surprise run to the Turner Cup Finals.

Port Huron: 2010-11 Fighting Falcons

• 6-46-6, easily worst in the NAHL
• Team arrived late in the summer after the Icehawks folded
• No expansion draft, ownership had to pay about $100,000 to play that season (league preferred them to start in 2011-12)
• Roster made up of overmatched players, mostly from California
• A dirty hockey team that could fight, but could also get blown out nightly.
• Season started in September. First-ever win: November 7. Second-ever win: January 7.
• Average attendance: 682 per game, a drop of about 1,000 per game from the Icehawks.

The Falcons made a coaching change around January and a few roster changes. They played a little better in the second half of the season, but not much. There actually was some talent on that roster, but nowhere near enough to be competitive. OTOH, the 2011-12 Falcons won their division and went to the finals.

Saginaw: 1998-99 Gears

• Second name change and fourth ownership change since the team arrived in town in 1994.
• All the hype of bringing back the Gears nickname and recapturing the magic of the old IHL team.
• Still no ice-level seats, only the Loge and Mezzanine levels, leaving an empty ring around the rink.
• A weak lineup with no offense that stumbled out of the gate.
• 20-28-7 on February 20th, but still with a shot at the playoffs. Then...
• Dr. Shukairy (who also owned the Flint Generals) conducted a fire sale and sold off any talent the team had and leaving the roster shorthanded.
• February 20th was the last victory of the season, as the Gears went 0-18-1 the rest of the way.
• Suprise! Another ownership change near the end of the season.

That season, especially the nose-dive at the end, killed that franchise and the UHL completely in Saginaw. The Gears came back for 1999-2000, but lasted only 26 games before moving to Ohio in December.

Last years Bucs were pretty hard to top. Not only did they look like s**t record wise, they had major embarrassments at nearly every level. They were undisciplined, had a super star who was basically rendered useless by their stupid defensive scheme, had infighting in the locker room that became bigger than any game they played that year, and Greg :censored:ing Schiano. Greg Schiano just handled the whole Josh Freeman situation so poorly it nearly became an art form to watch. By the time it was mercifully over, everyone hated the guy to the point where they were ready to pull an HMS Bounty on him. Hell, that locker room was basically turned into an actual pirate ship, complete with players falling victim to season-ending infections. Aaand the whole time the owner basically has one foot out the door and doesn't even know any of this is going on. Calamity is offended one would label last season's Bucs after it.


It seems like ages ago now, but that 2007 San Francisco Giants team was God awful to watch. They lost 92 games and the one highlight they did have was surrounded in so much controversy. While it was definitely really fun as a Giants fan to see Bonds break the all time home run record, it was also a little sad because you knew that it was never going to be seen in the light that a record of that magnitude should be seen in. With as big of a Bonds fan as I am, I actually was glad they didn't sniff the playoffs that season so we could just put the whole Bonds thing behind us as early as possible and move on. I remember his final game at AT&T Park that season, which should've been a huge celebration of an amazing career (and would've been had Bonds had even a shred of likability in him), just felt uncomfortable and awkward.

Totally agree with you about the '07 Giants. It's probably the only Giants season where an unclean and uncomfortable feeling just clouded the team and made any functioning impossible. For me, any season that gives off an unclean/uncomfortable feeling when I think about it is a bad season.

With my other teams, I can't think of many seasons that gave off this feeling. But here are a few:

2011-12 Warriors

Good lord was this team a mess. Curry's constant ankle injuries that kept him out for huge stretches of time (which thankfully have subsided now), the constant worries about Mark Jackson making the team's problems even worse, and the Monta trade. Just, the Monta trade. I know that it benefited the team in the long run and I would never take it back, but it was just uncomfortable watching the team give up when he was traded, not to mention the disturbingly awkward Chris Mullin number retirement ceremony. However, the pain is lessened as the tanking led to the drafting of Klay and the franchise's push back into relevance.

2013-14 Lakers

I don't really need to say much, but being annihilated by injuries, poor coaching, and some bad GM work wasn't fun.

2012 Red Sox

From all sides of the ball, this team was a burning train wreck. Bobby V's dickery, watching the clubhouse problems from the 2011 collapse intensify, and the significant amount of injuries just produced a mess of a team. Like with the '07 Giants example above, what should have been a milestone (the 100th anniversary of Fenway Park) was overshadowed by feelings of awkward uncomfortableness and disillusionment. It's slightly better because it gave the team a chance to retool and get rid of the 2011 problems, but in the moment it was just nasty.

2010 49ers

How can a team with a defense that's that good and all the offensive weapons necessary to capture a division title (in a division where a 7-9 team captured the title) and maybe a playoff victory finish 6-10 (with a lovely 0-5 start)? I'll tell you how, letting a complete doofus like Mike Singletary coach the team. Alex Smith never getting any help from a consistent offensive coordinator certainly didn't help either. This team was just painful to watch, and all the off-field incidents (like the legendary Singletary pants-drop) just made it even more harmful to the fans. Luckily, the team rebounded the next year when they hired a coach who actually knew how to run a whole team and could set up Alex Smith with the right kind of offensive coordinator to pilot the team back to relevance. But seriously, 2010 was a steaming pile of dung.

2006-2008 Braves (I'm 17, so I missed the bulk of the 14 straight titles, as well as the bad years before then)

So I had been a Braves fan for about three years in 2006, I was nine, so I was pretty excited. We had come off our 14th division straight title (thanks Expos), Andruw Jones had hit 51 homers, we had 18 rookies play for us at some point in 2005 (which should have been a sign) and two bright players in Brian McCann (who was awesome in retrospect, hate he's doing poorly) and Jeff Francoeur (hahaha "The Natural")... Okay 2006 wasn't too bad, terrible bullpen, missing the playoffs was disappointing, and led to some bad moves in 2007. So 2007. Tim Hudson and John Smoltz were the only pitchers who were good, every other ~1000 guys who pitched for us sucked (Lance Cormier, Jorge Sosa, John Thomson, Blaine Boyer, I don't think Hampton even pitched, Chuck James, random 32 year old rookie from triple A, all of them). We decided to trade Adam LaRoche for Mike Gonzalez and thought it a great idea to let Scott Thorman play first base... Smart... So then we go get Mark Teixeira in exchange for our entire farm system and our pitching still sucks. We miss the playoffs again. So... I honestly don't remember too many details about '08 except we made the dumbest move by trading Teixeira to the Angels for Casey Kotchman and Stephen Marek. Teixeira goes crazy for the Angels, helps them make the playoffs, goes to the Yankees, Angels get a comp pick, draft Mike Trout... Yeah... The Braves? Kotchman sucked utterly, then we end up getting Rochy back anyway, and Marek, who never projected to anything more than a reliever flames out and never reaches the bigs.

For the Saints...well, we've definitely had years that were awful but our worst year, the Katrina year, is something that you have to consider since there were SO many side circumstances. I mean for God's sake they didn't even know if they were ever going back to New Orleans at one point.

But to me, the most FRUSTRATING year was 2002. Now why would I be frustrated with a 9-7 record? It's because we were 9-4 and ALL we had to do to get into the playoffs was win just ONE more game and not only did they lose the last three games ineptly but the utter lack of urgency (looking at you Aaron Brooks...) was disheartening and pitiful.

As a Spurs fan...umm...hmm...see, I can't even say the 1997-98 was the worst year because we got Tim Duncan as a result. Maybe the years between Gervin and Robinson but I wasn't alive then so I can't really attest to what those years felt like.

The Penguins were pretty bad in 1982-83 and 83-84, but it led to the drafting of Mario Lemieux, so I can't complain. Mario is the reason they are still in Pittsburgh today.

The Broncos haven't had too many bad seasons, but 2010 (the last year with Josh McCheater) was pretty bad. However, like with the 84 Penguins, future success was around the corner.

'02 Hornets (44-38)

Those were the most depressing years of fandom for my teams. Carolina was coming off a Super Bowl loss and had huge expectations. Steve Smith broke his leg during the first game and the team fell apart. Started 3-9 then won the last 4 games to finish 7-9. That year sucked. Even worse than 1-15 in '01 & 2-14 in '10. There were no expectations this years & at least we got Julius Peppers & Cam Newton out of them.

Hornets were a good team in '02 & made the eastern semifinals but that year really sucked. Team was moving to New Orleans. I still hate George Shinn.

Vikings: Being older than you, I remember 1984. 3-13. It was Bud Grant's first year out. Less Steckel's one head coaching year. Awful year.

Twins: I remember the only 100-loss season. 1982. First year of the Metrodome. The team was truly hapless (though they had the young foundation for some future success). The late 1990s were bad too, though. The past three years have been most frustrating. The 1982 team was "building for the future" and the 1990s was when small market teams needed a few years to figure it out. But watching them go from six playoff appearances in nine years to fighting off 100 losses overnight has been tough. But "worst team" is 1982.

Wild: I guess I agree. Though being a fringe playoff team after the coup is disappointing. Just like with the always-terrible T-Wolves, there is no point in picking just one year with the always-mediocre Wild.
