2014 MLB All Star Game BP Hats

The Twins have a red cap in their history, so there's that.

And to be honest, I don't mind that Red Sox cap. I'd probably buy it.

The rest can die in a fiery hell.

I think these are an improvement over the NL and AL specific BP caps, but the contrast provided by each player's individual team hat is still looks the best.

I'm with you 100%. Even from a merchandising point of view if they wore their team's BP the rest of the sport's fans would be exposed to a cap maybe they hadn't seen before.

I think the main reason we're seeing the S&S caps with the star around the logo and this as the All-Star BP cap is because they're just running out of ideas.

So, apparently, these are just for BP and the Home Run Derby. Rumor is that they're all going to be wearing their current uniforms with AL and NL themed Diamond Era caps during the actual game. It's a change they're making starting with this season's All Star Game. So apparently, there are going to be TWO different sets of All Star game DE caps this year.

The hats that haven't been released yet are apparently VERY similar to this cap, but with AL and NL logos on the front, and the batter man on the back.

Not sure I like the sound of that. At all.

MLB will drop yet another notch in my book if that happens. There is absolutely no reason why this should happen.

This discussion reminds me of my decades-old frustration with the photo of the 1976 NL All Star Team. Nine men in the photo below were wearing the jersey of my favorite team, the CIncinnati Reds. But because MLB decided to adorn them in those goofy bicentennial pillbox caps, you have to look closely to pick them out. (They wore their actual team caps in the game, so I have no idea why they wore these for the photo.)

Remarkably, 16 men in this photo are wearing the uniform of either the Reds or Phillies.

not paying $38 for a hat either, but I never understood why the players don't where national / American jersey when they play the actual game, I mean they can where their team hat, but they were elected to the all star team, baseball is the only league that the players where their team jersey instead of a league jersey for the game...honestly it looks like a mess and a "me" mentality when they do that. id much prefer they were the nationa/ American jerseys for the game itself as well as the derby.

Mets, Jets, Islanders

But to the point. I like having them wear their own uniforms. The road team will always be in gray and the home team will always be in white. It actually works out nicely that way for a sport that isn't super fast paced.

Go A's!

Maybe MLB is gonna try to triple their income, and have a hat for the Home Run Derby, a hat for BP, and a hat for the actual game. I can totally see them doing this. They charge $35-$37 dollars for the hat (depending on which one) and they would be rolling over in money. This could be a great marketing campaign, and if it happens this year, it will happen in years to come, but it will get worse. I don't know how, but it will get worse

Sorry, I'm on an iPad

Not me. Part of the fun is seeing the various AL and NL uniforms side-by-side.

Same here. I said this in the 2014 Changes thread but it bears repeating here:

The only reason I have watched the MLB All Star game is to see players wearing Cincinnati Reds uniforms. If that is taken away, I doubt I'll ever watch a single inning of another one.
