So basically, this, but in Browns colors?

buckeyes-helmet.jpg

I'd be okay with that.

Co-signed. Something like Ohio State's pro combats is as "modern" as the Browns should get. None of this Tampa Bay/Jacksonville/Seattle stuff.

Tradition is the foundation of innovation, and not the enemy.

It's pretty much inevitable that it's going to be something similar to this. There's no way a company like HGI exists and doesn't at least do something modern with the Browns new helmets. This would be a good compramise. It's got some modern flair, but it's not completely nuts.

Chrome brown may be kinda cool, too.

Ew. The Browns have many problems, but the uniform is not among them.

Hate to disagree, but I don't understand why so many folks think the Browns' uniform is sacrosanct and can't be changed because of tradition. But what tradition is that? They haven't won a championship since 1964, and their glory days were mostly in the 1950s.

Tradition is for teams that have had success in their current uniforms, making them iconic: Steelers, Packers, Cowboys, Raiders, Bears, 49ers, Giants. Although I can assure folks that if the Steelers hadn't won four Supeb Owls in the 1970s, they would have changed their look long ago. Teams that have made drastic changes (Falcons, Buccaneers, Patriots, Jaguars, Titans/Oilers) didn't have much success wearing their previous uniforms.

The Browns can always wear their classic unis as throwbacks, anyway. Personally, if they kept the current helmet/colors, the only thing they would need to do is bring back the orange pants, IMO.

i want the browns to go total modern clown-suit and ignore their history... but that's just because i strongly dislike what the franchise has become, and want them to look as different from the pre-ravens era as possible.

go crazy. put a pitbull on the helmet, and wear orange and cream with only minimal amounts of brown, for all i care. i'm interested in seeing what this trainwreck is going to look like.

I'm pretty sure that you will get your wish and they will destroy any sense of tradition. It will be a train wreck just like what the franchise has become.

Chrome Brown just made me throw up in my mouth. Chrome Orange may be tolerable.

I don't get all the love for this helmet, or that OSU alt in general. As far as Nike alt-nonsense goes it's not nearly as bad as most, but IMO it would get extremely tiresome if it became the primary. Gimmicks are like that. And those oversize stripes are most definitely gimmicks.

The helmet color/finish is kind of nice but as I've said before those silly huge stripes make me think of one thing every time I see them...

Giant things are funny because they're giant.

Well, the Dolphins already switched to large stripes and their primary. I don't know how much truth this hold to the Browns, but I can see Nike doing this.

EDIT: Yes, I know the Dolphins' new stripes are not the overly sized ones found on Ohio State's alternate, but that Nike decided to overly widen the teal while making the orange extremely faint.

The Browns' look is not only traditional. It's a solid look on top of that. It's also unique. The colour scheme isn't shared by anyone else in professional sports, let along the NFL. The logo-less helmet, whatever you think about it, is also unique within the NFL. The Browns' look is considered classic despite a lack of recent history because of how strong the brand and brand loyalty is. Changing that "just because" is a bad idea.

Teams that have made drastic changes (Falcons, Buccaneers, Patriots, Jaguars, Titans/Oilers) didn't have much success wearing their previous uniforms.

The Falcons, Oilers, and Jaguars' older uniforms were all superior to the modern garbage they wear now, despite the fact that the older looks lacked a Championship perigee. Hell, the new looks do too! Only they have the added problem of looking terrible.

The aqua stripe is just slightly wider than the one on the previous helmet. The difference is the orange and blue stripes. And while I think the Dolphins' current helmet stipe is by far the worst they have ever worn, it still falls within the realm of a normal striping pattern. That Ohio State pattern is absurd. It's not an every-game stripe; not to be taken seriously. It exists only to play off of their normal helmet with proportionate stripes. Pro Combat uniforms are "X-treme", and so are the accompanying helmets. It's intentionally silly and can be so only because there exists a normal version of it.

I have no doubt Nike has at least put that out there for the Browns, but I hope they pass. That would be a horrible decision for them.

That tradition is one of a city desperately fighting against a criminal owner and the NFL to keep the team name, colors, and history, and in a landmark case that would set a precedent, actually winning.

I'm not sure how getting the NFL to agree to rewrite the history books helps with the team winning. In fact the new Browns seem pretty bad winning, despite getting to keep the name, colours, logos, and history.

This tradition has nothing to do with what happened on the field. Rather, the importance is in what happened off of it to show the loyalty and love for the team the fans have.

Frankly, the only post you need to edit is your own, as it seems to be nothing more than a cheap shot at a team that hasn't had on field success.
