TheSoundofThrowingPennies 48 Posted August 3, 2014 (edited) With the start of preseason just hours away, I thought it would be fun to have a thread with SB predictions that we can look back on and applaud or mock fellow users for their picks.I feel like there are four teams that may rep the AFC this season:Denver: Clearly a favorite as they are coming off a SB appearance and only got better this offseasonNew England: Change SB appearance to AFCCG appearance above.Miami: Darkhorse here. When their d is healthy they are among the best units in the AFC, and Tanehill really started showing promise late in the season. I like their offseason moves and I'm expecting this team to be the surprise of 2014.Pittsburgh: This team absolutely caught fire late last season and would have made noise in the postseason. The Black and Gold will once again be among the AFC elite.Likewise, there are only a few NFC teams that I think are legit SB Contenders.Seattle: the defending champs, until proven otherwise.Philadelphia: high powered offense. Upgraded defense. A QB that may or may not be the next big thing. Philly will make noise this season.Tampa Bay: my other Darkhorse. No receiver under 6'3 in the starting line up. Very underrated defense. Lovie Smith. Don't sleep on Tampa.I'm still iffy about this, but with the announcement that the NFL will be cracking down on DPI and D holding, give me...Denver vs Philly in the desert next February. IceCap 22,331 Posted August 3, 2014 We haven't even made it to the first pre-season game. Super Bowl predictions this early would be pointless.
crashcarson15 2,471 Posted August 3, 2014 Went ahead and just made this the 2014 NFL season thread. Don't think there's one yet (if so, could somebody point me in the direction so I can merge this?) and with preseason starting tomorrow, it makes sense for us to have them.Predictions are fine in the season threads but I'm not sure we need a special thread for them so far out. We've always for the most part done them in threads and I see no reason not to here.

dfwabel 4,155 Posted August 3, 2014 In the NFC, despite the quality team depth, everyone not named SF/SEA is playing for third. They are still playing for second since it gives you a home game verses SF or SEA. The Saints can ball as is and playing for the #1 seed.

So tired of people thinking they are in the same tier as Seattle and Denver.
waltere 565 Posted August 3, 2014 (edited) They've reached three straight NFC championship games, that puts them in a fairly elite tier. Edited August 3, 2014 by Ice_Cap clean up

People watched the SB and suffer the delusion that their team could do that to Denver. Esp SF. SF runs a cover 2. Look up Manning's stats against cover 2 d's.
dbadefense1990 369 Posted August 3, 2014 (edited) Here are my predictions:-The 49ers won't even reach the NFC Championship Game this time.-Peyton Manning will show his true age, as the Broncos will likely end up as a wildcard team (and maybe win one playoff game at best).-The Cardinals will be the dark-horse team and will break-out of the NFC West.-The Browns will likely win between 6-8 games.-This will be Tom Brady's last legitimate chance of a Super Bowl title as a marquee quarterback.-The Raiders will win between 4-6 games (dang it).-Super Bowl XLIX will be between the Seahawks and Colts. Edited August 3, 2014 by Ice_Cap Your point is valid, but unnecessary now that the thread's topic has been reoriented.

So tired of people thinking they are in the same tier as Seattle and Denver. You're right. The Niners aren't in the same tier as Denver. They're in the tier above Denver, right with the Seahawks. I see absolutely nothing that shows me that the Niners will have a down year this season. Maybe health will hold them back, but every team has that same concern. Overall the Niners are still downright nasty.I've also heard that line about the Niners having a "Down year" each of the last two seasons. And I love all the hope people have for the Bucs, but I'll believe it when I see it.
IceCap 22,331 Posted August 3, 2014 After last season? I have hope for the Chargers. Problem is they share a division with the Manning-led Broncos and Peyton still seems to have a year or two left in the tank. He doesn't seem as troubled by the Chargers since leaving Indy. They're still a playoff team, but I'm conceding the division to the Fighting Peytons.Went ahead and just made this the 2014 NFL season thread. It's a crapshoot.I once heard someone compare picking the Super Bowl winner before the pre-season to trying to predict the exact weather conditions in a specific location six months from now. We just don't know. I just said that I think Manning has one or two more good years left. He could be out of gas though, and the season could go terribly for Denver. Manning's at that age where any season, including this one, could be the one where he body just can't go any more. That's just one variable for one team. I don't know. I just don't see the point to trying to predict the Super Bowl this early out.Now predicting that the Raiders will play uninspired football? That's just playing the odds

Manning would have lit up that secondary had the Niners pulled off a win in Seattle.
wonderbread 382 Posted August 3, 2014 I predict a "Super Bowl or bust" post from crownking. But to be real i see the pats and broncos fighting it out again in the AFC with SD, KC, Indy, and cincy all making the playoffs. But I also feel Pit, the ravens, Browns, Miami, and the texans will all have good years and could slip into the playoffs. For the NFC Seattle and 9ers will be competing for best in the NFC with NO, Philly, GB, the lions, and Atlanta all making the playoffs with good years from the Vikings, bears, giants, Washington, cardinals, and panthers who could all sneak into the playoffs. For my Super Bowl prediction I'm going to be a homer and say the pats over the 9ers 24-12
