So that helmet you've all been whining about with the cut out section that looks more like a LAX helmet than a football one... ya, it may have just saved Welker's career.

I believe Wes Welker will play in season opener vs. Indy. It's 2 weeks away. His "concussion helmet" helped absorb D.J. Swearinger blow.— Mike Klis (@MikeKlis) https://twitter.com/MikeKlis/statuses/503719811218952194"]August 25, 2014

Except welker wasn't wearing the revo speed flex helmet, he was wearing the revo speed 360

What's the story here? Prater isn't allowed to drink and violated NFL policy by doing so?

Yes, he got a DUI a few years ago. He was "having a few beers" in his home, as his side says, and the NFL wanted to ban him for the entire season, but he got it down to four games. Still ridiculous.

Also, how the hell have they not made a ruling on Josh Gordon's appeal yet? It's been over two weeks. He will probably miss games, which is ridiculous if the reports of one of his samples testing negative are true.

The real ridiculous thing about that is the testing process itself. Each player gives two samples, and each sample is randomly labelled as Sample A and Sample B. If Sample A tests positive, they test Sample B to confirm. But the amount needed for a positive on Sample B is actually lower than the amount needed on Sample A. And so it was in Gordon's case that the Sample B was lower than the Sample A mark, but still met the mark.

So had the samples been labelled in reverse, Gordon's B:A and A:B, then he wouldn't have tested positive at all.

Last year in the playoffs Welker wore a Speed 360. This year, he's been wearing a Speed Flex:

Just got an alert that Mallet is expected to be traded. No team named yet. St Louis? Either them or Houston.

The Rams will not be acquiring Ryan Mallet to be their starter in 2014. There's just no chance of that. I could see them throwing a late round draft pick for him and seeing if they like him enough to consider him as a future QB, but Shaun Hill is going to be the Rams starter, at least for the first half of the season.

PFT, but it was a misleading title. They just think he will be cut or traded. He wont play Thursday at all.

"On Monday’s edition of PFT Live, Tom Curran of CSNNE.com said he believes that, without a trade, Mallett will be cut. The possibility that this year’s potential buy-low-sell-lower rookie, Jimmy Garropolo, will play the entirety of the preseason finale suggests that the Pats hope to avoid an injury to Mallett, which could put the team on the hook for his entire base salary of $776,976.

So if Mallett’s going to be cut, how could he have any trade value? Because Mallett has only three years of service, he’ll have to pass through waivers if he’s released. For a team relatively low on the pecking order, the only way to get Mallett would be to trade for him.

For the Patriots, anything will be better than nothing. Ultimately, the only thing they may get is a conditional seventh-round pick."

Logan Mankins has been traded to the Buccaneers for TE Tim Wright and a draft pick.

Wait wait wait. So you're telling me the Bucs made a trade with the Pats and actually got something of value from them this time?!?! It's about freaking time. I love this move.

Honestly I don't think this was a horrible trade for the Patriots. I actually just picked up Wright in my 2 fantasy leagues because of this trade. Because he is such an athletic tight end, if Gronk goes down the Pats will be just fine.

At this point, the Patriots are just adding a weapon to their offense that they missed last year. I think they are trying their best to replicate the offense when they had Gronk and Hernandez. It obviously wont be as good, but it will make their passing attack better this year
