  1. Question:

How do you fit text across a certain area? Like a newspaper usually does, for example.

    Let's say I wanted

    CAROLINA

    MUSICAL

    ASSOCIATES

    ACCOUNTS

but all square with each other and centered...but not "centered" in the normal sense like from a mid-point. there would be precise spacing in between each letter to fit the longest word I assume, but I have never needed to use it nor have I found it.

    get my drift?

You could do 'Create outline' for the whole text, align the first letter of each row left, the last letter of each row right, and then distributing all the other letters per line.

Yeah, that is the long way of doing it I suppose...and I have used that technique before when doing something similar, but I figured there must be a much easier way and I know fiasco is right- I just can't get it to work for some reason.

I don't think it works if you hit enter after each word. If you create a text box then fill in the copy with only a space between each word, it should work.

  2. Anybody having, or hearing about other people having, problems running Illustrator CS2 after the latest OSX Tiger security update? The damn thing shuts down in the middle of opening every time.

My lazy ass needs to upgrade to either CS3 or Leopard, or both...

I'm not sure if it has anything to do with Tiger, but I've just heard so many complaints that CS2 crashes all the time.

I don't know if this is the case, but Illy CS2 would crash all the time on my MacBook Pro. Running under rosetta was the problem. After upgrading, CS3 runs fine.

  3. Not sure if PNG supports transparency (probably does, but I don't usually save in that format). A GIF file will support transparency.

If you're working in Photoshop, the easiest way is to make a layered file, but turn off the visibility of the bottom layer, then "save as web", make sure the file option is set to GIF, and check the transparency button.

    PNG does support transparency.

  4. This may be a dumb question, but I'm new to the board.

I've been using Photoshop for jersey/logo designs(very time consuming!). I would love to use illustrator because it seems as if thats what everyone uses and its easier. How do I get a hold of a solid version of Adobe Illus. without shelling out the $$$$$?

I'm getting my Masters right now so $$$$ is TIGHT! Any ideas? Thanks! I love this site by the way, all of you are extremely talented. I'll be displaying some of my stuff soon enough.

    Take care

You can download it from this site for the low price of $80: http://www.oem-softwares.com/?a=order&sid=...orcs=1&x=42&y=1

Thanks alot! though I was hoping for something CHEAPER.

I'll save the link and if nothing else comes up I'll probably do it. $80 IS much better than $400!

    There's always bit torrent.

  5. Another question... is there a way to scale objects to a fixed measurement? I only see how to scale objects by percentage - I'm wondering if it's possible to actually input the desired width and height rather than doing trial and error on the percentage scale to achieve the exact width/height.

Go to Window in the toolbar, then check Transform.
