The main issue seems to stem from people who want to go back to 1970 when they grandpops use to take them to the old arena and have cracker jacks for $.50 cents and you watched Celtics at home in white and the San Antonio Chaparrals in their away black. Guys we are in 2023, things will change, we dont have a standard home and away an maybe one alternate.

    1970?

I just want to go back to 2017.

    (don’t like sleeves? Fine, 2012.)

NBA should bring back sleeve uniforms for each team thats all black (bfsb) and funky fonts with zero matching to the teams identity and you guys in here would have a meltdown of epic proportion and I would come in here and have the biggest smile on my face :)

Well yeah, minus the sleeves, that’s what Nike is doing now.

Only 9 teams had black sleeved uniforms, not 30. Of those 9, 3 already existed as unsleeved alts, not BFBS. Also, not a single sleeved jersey used a “funky font”. They all used their regular fonts, so you wouldn’t have to guess who was playing. Nike sadly doesn’t understand how to do that.

You cry about others crying about funky fonts and black uniforms as if you liked them, yet apparently you do not like them either. Lmao

The #1 pick wasn't part of the trade, but it was a likelier outcome with the rebuilding package they traded for than it would have been with Pau and a treadmill team. They also got another lottery pick in the trade.

If Pau was too good, he could've easily asked them for a worse package like Odom or Artest or Steve Blake, whatever was equivalent to Eric Gordon lol. Then he could've killed 2 birds with one stone - help Hornets AND help Lakers by letting them have both Paul and Pau, especially since the Lakers were coming off a 2nd round sweep and really did need more help.

but it seemed like he wanted to help the Hornets just as much as he didn't want to help the Lakers, so I don't think your statement that "he would trade as many stars as possible there" is true. The only big trades in the 20-year kobe era were Pau and Dwight.

Let me put it this way: if your statement was true, Kobe would have 10 rings.

What the :censored: does this have to do with anything?

that he neither acts nor looks like a commissioner. For example when presenting the Finals MVP his mannerisms and speech seem so awkward since he'll have some random pauses and stutters, like he's trying to remember his next line. when we're talking about how the league's overall presentation and vibes have become weirder and changed for the worse like @ the admiral said, i feel like that's definitely relevant.

He was acting as the owner of a financially-distressed franchise at the time and understood that the #1 pick made it more attractive to potential buyers than a treadmill team with Pau. Very different situation than what he normally would have loved to see as commissioner.

Even then, the trade that actually happened still involved a star being traded from a smaller market to a larger market.

The #1 pick was not part of the trade and the hornets didn’t even have the best odds. or are you referring to the conspiracy?

and would making the Hornets more attractive really be more profitable than potentially 2-3 straight Lakers/Heatles finals?

I think this is correct. 2012, the turning point at which more people had smartphones than didn't, was the beginning of a lot of weirdness beyond the NBA, but certainly including it.

eh, 2012 was still pretty normal. i think the beginning was 2014 when Silver took over. Stern would've never allowed so many ads because he actually cared about having a clean image and purity (e.g. dress code). or at least he would've fought harder unlike Silver who is a pushover. Plus Stern just has that "commissioner" and "boss" look while Silver looks like an alien. Stern would have banned Morant for a whole season at least.

2015 when they took the Finals decals off the courts was another bad change. Then another ugly change with the new Finals logos and wordmarks in 2018, along with Nike's weird *** trim on the back of the shoulders and toilet paper-durability. Plus iconic guys like Kobe, Wade, Dirk, Tim, KG all retiring while all these new stars change teams every 2 years certainly doesn't help a team's identity either.

Stern was once quoted as saying that his dream Finals matchup was Lakers vs. Lakers. He would have personally traded all those local teams' stars to the Lakers if he could have.

why did he veto the CP3 trade then? doesn't add up

what an incredibly disappointing year. these teams and nike have completely lost it. some of them have redeeming potential. like the wizards one isnt too shabby in terms of creativity. but i think we can officially say nike is running out of material and i dont mean just in a creative aspect but also physically too. is nike out of ink or something? i know i said this but every team this year is roughly having a black jersey or a jersey that's in a color they've already worn recently. i was hoping there would be an out of blue color but theres literally nothing. raptors have worn gold for years, jazz and suns are already purple teams (or at least the jazz try to be), the hornets are just wearing teal, etc. etc. closest we got is the kings wearing blue but they already have that same exact red and blue from a few years ago

even design wise everything looks cheap. like the nuggets are just bringing back the same template they used three years in a row from like 2018 to 2021. we already seen how hilariously bad the mavericks and bulls are the way there's absolutely nothing going for them but a name and number. and even then they've managed to screw those up with the terribly small size proportions. same thing applies to a lot of these jerseys. no out of the box designing or anything. everything's just a name and number. maybe lucky to see anything showing on the sides of the jersey.

i agree that nike is trash but i actually feel the opposite re: colors. I feel like if every team has a white jersey, then black is ok too (better than ugly grey at least), but the best choice is still to use an existing team color like hornets/teal or jazz/purple. you don't want to see celtics wearing red or spurs wearing purple, that's the main reason everyone says they take away from the brand identity.

unless it is a legit reason like Chicago using blue from their flag or Warriors using red for Chinese heritage. Even with the Wizards pink jersey on Kuzma, at least i know it's a Wizards jersey because they kept the regular fonts. The same cannot be said for many of this season's, however

What annoys me the most is the lack of white on the trim, drop shadow and the nob is really boring, compared to the classic one. There isn't enough contrast, so it looks like it's full yellow. Obviuously banana yellow instead of gold is the main problem.

agreed. i wish the league would allow them to bring back those Showtime unis full-time, rather than force them to make some weird modifications. they probably can't even bring them back as Classic editions because they're already so similar.

Would you like me to call it lemon yellow instead? Alrighty. either way it is NOT the correct shade 🤷‍♂️

help me remember the lore series was stopped with the mixtape edition right? before that there was the Baylor's one right?

Talking about the colors, yes but no, i mean they used historic colors. especially the mixtape one, it well resemble what an ideal city jersey could be, using a color out from the main brand, took maybe from the past, with one or more current color.  The Baylor's one would have been awesome with yellow accents.

Yep Baylor was the last lore series. Mixtape's biggest problem was they took out their main color for no reason. Add yellow, that would have been fire. Or gold, even better

oh wait, my bad thought you were talking about the slate jersey.

all good bro, i meant the gold sleeved. even i was surprised, i mean i think that's garbage too lol but all i'm saying is sleeved jerseys are the lesser of 2 evils

People buying it and how much they spent is not a point, as i said, people like garbage very often, and beside that, as you said it's because of what that jersey means for a fan. That doesn't make the design suddenly good.

Sure but price also reflects demand. That particular jersey wasn’t even special,  Steph never had any amazing moments in those. Worst case, give me that uniform over the flower, curvy San Francisco and UMich statement. They used the right colors at least

beside the sleeved jersey, the design they had... the spurs camo jersey, the wizards red jersey, the utah jazz horizontal jersey, plus allt he grey sleeved jersey, who just had some casual totally unnecessary elements. Beside that the magic "stars" jersey jersey, the thunder alternate, the balzers alternate, talking about "weird trims", the white tie and hoops for troops heat jersey, the pistons grey jersey.

What was bad about the designs? At least teams managed to keep their identity. Spurs had camo jerseys with nike too, ditto with Pistons grey. Wizards was a fauxback. I didn’t hate any of these except for the grey ones.

I'm not convinced that Adidas wouldn't have pushed jersey design in the same direction Nike has. They pushed it, not just with sleeve design, The precursor to the City Editions were the Pride Jerseys. The NBA has been pushing the direction of jersey design here more than any manufacturer ...

Last pic wasn’t a Pride and they kept that design up to 2020. Teams weren’t forced to make pride jerseys every season and they didn’t lose their identity by not using their regular colors (unless camo/military colors for Spurs and Heat or green for Knicks and Bulls St Patty's). At least Houston didn’t make those blue for example.

You named, at least for me, two of the worst warriors jerseys of the recent years, even uglier then the last statement. The hollywood nights lakers jersey, seriously? talking about a black lakers jersey, i think there's no debate who did it better. And this trash christmas jerseys... don't you all complain about how little it is to wait for a jersey wich last one year and then it goeas away? for sure 10 christmas jersey every year are different from 30 different jersey, but still i think it's pretty much the same problem. For sure nike threw out some garbage, the problem is that lot of people liked that garbage, like the heat """mixtape""" jersey.  I think the city program could be simply reimagined, not anymore one every year. And teams who have something that has alwys been honored should stick with that, for example the St.Patrick theme for the celtics. Something like in 10 years you honor the same thing with  3 different designs for example. wouldn't be that bad and would be for other team, a chance to do something different from the main brand, which is still linked to it.  By the way, for me Adidas did way more garbage then nike.

i’m sorry bro but you’re just wrong on the warriors. Those jerseys are legendary lore status because of how great they performed over those 3 seasons (2014-2017) and because of what Curry did to OKC in them. there’s no way you can be a warrior fan and not like those. If you do then you are def in the minority. Agree to disagree on this.

i agree the black mamba jerseys are one of the best jerseys ever but that’s because nike let Kobe design them, instead of their own incompetent designers. Hollywood nights is still better than all 6 other lakers city jerseys we’ve seen

But i do agree with your point that city jerseys shouldn’t be made every year.

You're bonkers if you think they'd remove the Swoosh or not add the Adidas logo if they took back over. The supplier logo is gonna be in the spot no matter who it is. And Adidas's crap was just as bad.

Nah you’re bonkers if you’re telling me you’d rather rock that heat culture jersey 🤣. Sleeved jerseys are nothing new, baseball, football, soccer all have them. When i play pickup i play in a t-shirt, not a wifebeater. So i honestly didn’t get the big deal. The ugly ones like the grey sleeved Magic, Celtics, etc were ugly to me because of the grey, not because of the sleeves.

i haven’t even mentioned Nike forcing teams like the lakers, warriors and pacers to coincidentally all switch from gold to banana yellow. I guarantee if someone else takes back the rights from nike, these teams will all coincidentally switch back to gold.

  15. Still better than what we have now and it is pretty much widely accepted in jersey collector groups that adidas jerseys were way better quality and more valuable

Even if we keep the ads, at least getting rid of the other ad on the right shoulder (the nike logo) would be an improvement. I don’t see how they sucked, what flaws did they have besides sleeved jerseys, which were usually worn a limited amount of times anyways and not every team was forced to have them (unlike city jerseys)?

Cavs, Hollywood Nights, Warriors slate and Chinese new year, all of those were epic and none of them would have been eyesores without sleeves.

Even this is infinitely better than that ugly heat culture crap:

That’s a bummer but i do have 2 questions if you don’t mind

    1) how did they get away with wearing 2 classic editions in 2019-20 (yellow The City and white San Francisco)

    2) how did they get away with having a classic edition for every nike season from 17/18 up until now? I thought there was a rule where it had to be every 5 or 10 years to celebrate an anniversary. So what were they celebrating those years, i’ve looked thru news articles but they never explicitly mentioned anniversaries except for the Origins jerseys

Technically this jersey has a patch too (like all nike warriors jerseys), they just did a better job making it the same color as the rest of the jersey.

I also saw other team's retro uni, like the Warriors and the Jazz.

can you share more info about the Warriors retro?
