M L S Expansion "news"...

Recommended Posts

For those who care about such things, one of Major League Soccer's worst kept "secrets" was virtually confirmed in this morning's Los Angeles Times: it is apparently as close to a done deal as possible that the Chivas USA expansion team will share the Home Depot Center in Carson, California with the Los Angeles Galaxy. While an outside chance remains that the team might share the Chicago market with the Fire, that possibility is apparently a remote one.

Details of Chivas USA's agreement with MLS and AEG (management group of the Galaxy and Home Depot Center) are being worked out, and an official announcement will be made within the next 2 to 3 weeks. Officials for Chivas USA have confirmed that all of the club's import roster spots will be taken up by Mexican players, with every effort made to fill the club's American roster sports with Mexican-Americans. It has been confirmed that the team's head coach will be a Mexican. Club officials have also indicated that they will impress upon their Mexican-American players the importance of being conversant in Spanish, as that is the language that they feel their fans will be most comfortable conversing in.
