Indeed, just about every choice that a person makes, ranging from the monumental (where to live, where to work, whom to date) to the mundane, constitutes a bet.

What? Shopping for apartments is not an attempt to get something for nothing. Applying for jobs is not an addictive behavior. And assessing one's options through a course of life decisions is not the same as putting money on the outcome of a TV show. Back to the drawing board.

I thought that bringing sports betting out of the shadows would be a net benefit but sports betting has just brought a certain crassness to everything it touches. Net loss.

  2. As time has gone by, I've developed an appreciation for the Big Red uniforms that I never used to have.

St Louis Cardinals Football 1969 | Literacy Ontario Central South

The Cardinals were ready for a change by 2005, but remember, even by 2004, they were already doing monochrome red and had dropped black as a secondary color in favor of a few threads of navy blue, so of course they looked worse. They missed the boat not just going back to looking like a practically ancient football team. They should have done so at the same time that the Bills rolled it back.

But basketballs are orange, the sun appears orange, and their secondary team color (which appears in their logo and uniform) is orange.  I'd say this is a case where it should be literal.

Also, ask a small child to draw the sun. It will be either yellow, orange, or, if they have the 64-crayon box, yellow-orange.

  4. As I've said before, the Bengals have maybe the best helmet in the league. They should wear it for every game. Given that helmets have functioned as de facto logos, I think every team should have one helmet for every game, but especially the Bengals. And I'm not referring to the zebra helmet.

The NFL needs a contrasting sock rule.

"Socks may only be the same color as pants if they include stripes, otherwise they must contrast."

There, someone go paste that into the NFL rule book somewhere.

No plain white socks (I don't care how icily clean they are), no white socks with dark jerseys. I'd throw that in there too. Never liked that about the old Pats and Eagles uniforms.

Curious: what specifically about the Eagles' and Ravens' respective number fonts is/looks "dated" to you? (Anyone else can respond to this, too.)

The Ravens have the same number set, more or less, as the original Diamondbacks (98), Wizards (97), Warriors (98?), Thrashers (99), and a late '90s Atlanta Hawks redesign. Throw in the Mariners' alts, too, whatever year those were. It feels very of its time, when the best way to look current was to use a font that you'd have used in desktop publishing.

Lebron is definitely this generation’s goat, but there really isn’t a player that’s more fun than Steph.

I think Curry has narrowed the gap significantly, and I don't even think we can definitively put LeBron over Kobe.

Looks like the Chicago Bears primary logo change is official now. The NFL website and team website is officially using the Bear head logo now and the wishbone C is nowhere in sight. I'm guessing the logo will be at midfield this season.

The fanbase hates Chicago so I guess it's just as well.

  9. I'm glad someone is finally honoring "the 1968-69 Las Vegas team." Who can forget icons of the game like Bob "Brooksie" Brooker, Don "The Casket" Woodbury, and Roland "Accounts Receivable" Payment. People still talk about scoring a "Floyd Conrad hat trick."

I must be on a silver pants kick because that’s all the Eagles should have, IMO.

Keep the current green, get better striping and a better number font.

Gotta be green-green-silver-green at home, but I could go for green-white-green-white on the road. I don't want too many teams to do the Packers/Steelers/49ers thing where only the jersey changes.

  11. Using midnight green where your eyes would expect black would just make it feel like a really washed-out black. Might as well commit to the classic color scheme at that point.

What about a slight greenish tint to the silver?

I remember I played Madden '97 when I was six years old and they had the '83 Eagles in there and I saw the green bird logo and was like "Wow what?" I want to go on record and say the full bird logo sucks as a sports logo. It's just not a logo to put anywhere.

Both the bird logo and the old wordmark were terrible. The Eagles were in desperate need of a rebrand by 1996, but they've been in desperate need of another one since about 2008, too, when you finally started to see some resistance to the dark-n-fade across leagues (Oilers, Brewers, Rams, Penguins).

This is almost certainly generalizing, but I have to think that whether you like or dislike the current Panthers uniforms is in proportion to how much you like or dislike their attempt at military cosplay.

There are some things I've come to like about the Panthers' set, like the color scheme and the logo that more closely resembles a Florida panther, but the fact that it was all done in the name of military cosplay ruins it.

The Suns new uniforms certainly look nice, but there's something about the incorporation of black in the original Sunburst set that feels better to me than this new emphasis on white. I think that balance of Purple, Orange, and then Black is really what feels the most like the Suns to me, and all of these other sets since have just come a little bit short in trying to get that color balance right.

Not only that, there was a little bit of yellow in there, too. Even with the Lakers down the road, there was no mistaking the two. It was a classic uniform for sure.
