  1. Another unpopular opinion (it seems). Unless a team actually played in the ABA NBA teams need to stop with the ABA throwbacks. In fact teams need to stop throwing back to uniforms the organization never actually wore all together.

    This.

The MLB does the same thing from time to time. And it's just as bad there, even if sometimes it's throwing back to Negro League teams. It needs to stop!!

  2. GOP presidential candidate Ron Paul in a Rainbow Guts Astros uniform:

    ron_paul_congress_astros_76.jpg

(Fun fact: in the long history of the Congressional baseball game, Paul is the only Congressman to ever hit a home run over the fence. This game is played at a major league park, back then, Memorial Stadium.)

    Haha, I love this.

A man noone would vote for in a uniform noone would wear ;)

  3. What's the deal with the victory stripes anyway? They wore them before they won the Cup.

The idea is that you raise your arms in victory after a win or goal and show off your glorious armpits of triumph. One of the dumbest uniform idiosyncrasies around.

Things have certainly improved in this regard in the last 30 years!

  4. Get real - it would be FOX and CBS doing the drafting.

    Seriously.

And it would never ever ever ever ever work.

Don't suppose Fox or CBS would go near any league that would actually do this. But it could be an interesting route for a minority league, looking to create an identity and some news coverage, to go down.

  5. Here is a wacky NHL all star inspired thought. Why not have a league where your draft the conferences and divisions each year? Have a commisioner for each conference and draft which teams they get each year, then they can align the divisions themselves? Actually it's all sounding a bit WWE now I write it, but for a minority sport (maybe even MSL) could it work?

Hmm. Don't you think that would ruin regional rivalries (and rivalries in general) then? I kind of like having the same teams in each division each season.

Well I dunno, depends on the scrupples of each 'commisioner'. But if it were say the NFL doing this (and like I say I am not actually recommending this for a big 4 sport) then if someone drafted say the New York Jets early, then the other commisioner might have to make a decision about say drafting the Patriots in order to scupper that rivalry or leaving the Patriots in order to pack his own league with rivalries. It would be an interesting way to build rivalry between conferences.

  7. Is that really a "wrong" uniform for KG?

I do find it interesting to wonder what will be the 'right' uniform for Garnett in, say, 10 years time. If say the Celtics won a second title with Garnett in there, surely it would be difficult to take him away from Boston fans. But then how do Minnesota fans feel about him being so connected to the Celtics? Is he a guy who you can happily connect with both of his franchises? Same for Ray Allen come to think of it.

  8. Maybe he perceives Obama as having affected his White Sox fandom as an effort to ingratiate himself to a community that isn't particularly welcoming of political outsiders. He wasn't a churchgoing Christian till he had to persuade South Siders to vote for him, either.

He "affected" his Sox fandom throughout his presidential run too and I have a hard time believing he expected that to win him any votes. Maybe he just really REALLY likes the Sox?

That said, Scott Walker (A-1 sleazebag and candidate for Governor of Wisconsin) was outside of Lambeau a couple weeks ago decked out head-to-toe in Packers gear in a couple weeks ago in a sorry attept to show what a "regular guy" he is. I'd be shocked if he could actually name a single player on the roster besides Aaron Rodgers or Donald Driver, but it doesn't make me cringe because I understand he's a politcian doing what politicans do... pandering to morons. What does make me cringe is the idea that someone may actually be stupid enough to think "I'm gonna vote for Scott Walker because Aaron Rodgers kicks ass!!!" or just the idea of Walker being Governor at all really, but because he happens to put on green & gold every now and then... seriously?

Of course the worst piece of sports related political pandering, at least in America, that I can think of was when Giuliani, a guy who has made a lot of political capital out of being a Yankees fan, said he was rooting for the Red Sox in the World Series in 07, months before the NH primary.

Obama strikes me as a pretty genuine sports fan, he does seem to know what he is talking about when he talks sport. He looked pretty natural wearing a White Sox shirt, not like its the first time he has ever put on a baseball shirt. And its not like he said 'I support the White Sox and Cubs' he nailed his colors properly to the White Sox mast.

  9. Saw the Penguins meeting with Obama on the news this morning where the presented him with a custom jersey. I couldn't find a pic of that but he sure has gotten his share of custom jerseys. This may be more of a case of playa with the wrong jersey since I can't picture him wearing any of these.

Of course Obama did appoint Dan Rooney as ambassador to Ireland.

  10. Supposedly it was suppose to be like a 'futuristic' prototype for baseball jerseys that they only ended up wearing a couple times(no wonder why). Definitely interesting though.

All these years later, is TATC such a big secret?

Apparently to those who can't use the search feature...or Google.

You're a cool guy. I really mean that.

It was just brought up during the telecast yesterday, so I posted a pic. No need to get all high and mighty on a damn internet message board.

For anyone interested here are some more TATC jerseys

  11. So if the L.A. beats Detroit in '04, you would associate Karl Malone with the Lakers more than you would the Jazz?

Heck no! To me, this is one of the weirdest photos to look at in the World of Sports....

    040311_karlMalone_vmed_11p.widec.jpg

Its odd isn't it. I brought up KG earlier as a Celtic. But I think there is a difference. I think Malone winning a championship with LA would have been more akin to Ray Bourque winning a cup with the Avalanche, than KG in Boston. I think that Malone went to LA to win a championship, rather than to lead a team to the championship, which is more akin to what KG did. And KG has immersed himself in the Celtics now. You always had the feeling Malone was just flying in to LA

  12. As a very quick aside on this topic. How in years to come are people going to feel about Kevin Garnett's years in Boston? I mean, without finally getting a championship in Boston, he would be a shoo in for this topic, but I kind of think of Garnett as a Celtic now, not a T-wolf seeing out his final years in the wrong uniform.

He fit in so well and quickly as a Celtics, it seems like he was destined to be in green.

KG in a Timberwolves uniform looks like a legend in the wrong uniform to me now.

Its odd isn't it, because I would sort of agree with you. But I think its interesting that Garnett seems like a man living out his destiny with a ring in Boston, whereas say Ray Bourque has to go to Colorado to win the Stanley Cup, but he will be forever a Bruin to a lot of people, I think.
