    UVI Athletics Debuts New Look

The University of the Virgin Islands (UVI) Athletics Department will be sporting an exciting new look beginning in the upcoming academic year. The refreshed identity was created with the culture and tradition of the Virgin Islands in mind.

Having joined the UVI community in 2020, the new Athletic Director, Dr. Jerel Drew said his goal is to “establish a culture of athletic academic excellence and National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) compliance.”

“I hope to create a new athletic vision that reflects and embodies UVI's heritage and history as a Historically Black College and University (HBCU),” he said. “After consulting with the various constituents of the University, there was a consensus that there was a need to improve and raise the Athletic Department’s image to a competitive standard with other universities.”

The bold new design reflects the Buccaneers’ history and spirit and the commitment to represent and celebrate those roots and the University of the Virgin Islands. Virgin Islands history is depicted by a buccaneers’ ship and a sugar mill while the culture is evidenced by a moko jumbie and a steel pan.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas – SFA Athletics released its new family of athletics logos and brand identity marks today (June 1). The release marks the culmination of a thorough process in cooperation with SME Branding, a division of Learfield IMG College. "We are excited to unveil our new family of logos and identity marks", said SFA Director of Athletics Ryan Ivey. "These marks provide us with a diverse group of assets that will allow us to expand on our iconic primary mark with consistency across all platforms. NM State Adds to Visual Branding Package, Unveils New Secondary Logo

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - NM State athletics added to its branding package Thursday morning by unveiling a new secondary logo. The logo, a stylized version of New Mexico State, is a vintage logo that first made its appearance with the NM State Basketball Team in the late 1970s.

"As we looked to strengthen our identity as the State school in New Mexico, we found inspiration in our archives for a word mark that encompasses the message we wanted to put forward: We are New Mexico State," commented director of athletics Mario Moccia

Introduced as a retro design for the 2019-20 season, the logo took little time to become popular with Aggie fans around the nation. Thus, NM State athletics chose to adopt the mark in order to strengthen the brand image of New Mexico State University and to further the unique identity of NM State athletics around the state and nation. The new wordmark will not replace Pistol Pete as the Aggies' primary mark.

BURNABY, BC – Simon Fraser University Athletics & Recreation is launching a new visual identity  inspired by its celebrated past.

The new SFU Athletics & Recreation icon leans into the original red and white school colours, as well as a vintage maple leaf and octagon shape worn by SFU student-athletes throughout its history. The refreshed brand captures the pride that student-athletes feel when they compete against their American opponents as Canada's NCAA team. Over the years, SFU student-athletes have inspired and motivated each with the rally cry "Rep the Leaf," which becomes a central part of the new brand.

  6. A conservative group opposed to Glendale's $300 million arena management deal with Phoenix Coyotes' suitor Greg Jamison is considering trying to take the issue to voters or could try to recall the four Glendale City Council members who approved the controversial agreement earlier this month.

Steve Voeller, president of the Arizona Free Enterprise Club, doesn't like Glendale's Coyotes deal and said his group is considering various options as a remedy, including a ballot push and council recall.

That could be on top of legal challenges to the Glendale arena deal brought by the Goldwater Institute.

  7. Things are looking up for Quebecor:

Quebecor Inc. has "all the tools" it needs to bring a National Hockey League team to Quebec City, it said Thursday, as it reported profit that blew past expectations.

The Montreal-based media and telecommunications company said it spent 2011 refining its operations, and now wants to focus on hockey. Gains in its cable business led to a profit of $85.4-million, or $1.34 a share, compared to $46.6-million, or 72 cents, a year ago. Analysts expected a profit of 89 cents.

The company reached a deal for the naming rights of a yet-to-be-built $400-million arena in the city earlier this month. Terms of the deal vary depending on the eventual tenant, but Quebecor could pay as much as $65-million for the rights.

"As we review the events of 2011, we must also note the final agreement on management and naming rights to the future arena in Quebec City," the company said in a statement as it released its quarterly and full-year results. "Quebecor Media now has all the tools it needs to pursue its goals, which are to manage a world-class multipurpose centre and to bring a National Hockey League team to Quebec City."
