Here’s an idea of what this weekend’s matchups might look like. * = kit choice confirmed by the team.

*Seattle (red dragon/black/black) vs. LAFC (all-smog green)

    Atlanta (stripes/black/red) vs. *Portland (pink/white/pink)

    Montreal (all-gray) vs. Philadelphia (all-navy)

*New England (all-navy) vs. Nashville (all-yellow)

New York Red Bulls (all-red) vs. Columbus (all-yellow)

NYCFC (all-city blue) vs. DC (all-black)

    Orlando (all-purple) vs. *Charlotte (blue/white/blue)

    Toronto (gray/red/gray) vs. Miami (all-pink)

    Chicago (all-navy) vs. Cincinnati (all-orange)

Dallas (red/blue/blue) vs. SKC (all-light blue)

    Houston (all-orange) vs. Austin (stripes/black/black)

St. Louis (all-pink/red) vs. San Jose (all-black)

    *Colorado (burgundy/blue/burgundy) vs. Minnesota (all-white)

    LAG (all-teal) vs. Vancouver (all-white)

Dallas will be in white/black/black. That puts SKC in dark indigo/sporting blue/sporting blue

Meant to post this earlier, but I have to say that last night’s Timbers/SKC match was really a visual treat. Games between these two almost always produce good-to-great kit matchups, and last night was no exception. For my Timbers, seeing it action I think this new one is the 2nd best primary kit in their MLS history (behind only 2017/18). I really enjoyed the 2019/20 hoops, but I think I give a slight edge to this one for 2nd place on my personal list because of the distinctive plaid pattern and the way that both the white and gold accents really pop instead of “competing” with each other. Can’t wait to see it with white shorts. As for SKC, I wasn’t too high on their new kit when it was unveiled but it really grew on me while watching the game. I still think they left a good deal of potential on the table (and have on their last few kits, really), but I do think this new one was executed better than the one it replaced. I’m always a sucker for a henley collar, too. I hope they wear navy shorts with it a few times this year.

We'll be wearing it with Dark Indigo shorts this weekend against Colorado :)

As far as I know, the home team gets first pick as to what they want to wear, with the away team having to pick something to contrast that. There are occasions where the league has to step in (like the green vs. green Portland/Seattle matchups, for example), but I do not believe it’s true at all that the league makes the uniform matchups instead of the teams. I have heard that Adidas/the league has a rule that teams have to wear each kit a minimum amount of times each year, but 1) I can’t confirm whether that’s accurate or not, and 2) I do not believe the league makes teams wear certain kits in certain situations unless it’s necessary for enhancing contrast or it’s a situation like the Parley kits where obviously everyone wears the same thing. The league has influenced MLS Cup kit matchups in the last, notably back in 2015 when they made the Timbers wear their primary kits instead of the retro thirds that they’d worn throughout the playoffs.

Pretty much spot on. Clubs select what they want to wear for home matches. This year we only submitted home matches. Typically 9 outta 10 times the kit the home team selects is worn unless it can't be worn for contrast sake. Then typically its a switch to a different kit or the combo is changed (shorts, socks, etc.)

We don't have any expectations to wear kits a certain amount of times (other than our own internal goals) from what I've experienced in this process.

    - Finally, a very European-esque matchup between Colorado and SKC with the Rapids in their first choice burgundy/blue/blue and SKC wearing their primaries with the navy shorts and socks from their new secondaries:

Genuinely can’t remember the last time (if ever, actually) that SKC has worn light blue/navy/navy. I also think this’ll be the first time SKC has worn navy shorts with their primary shirts since 2018. Ironically, NYCFC wore this exact same kit combo at Colorado back in 2019.

I don't believe we have either.  For the first time in a long time the club can swap any part of the kit combo with the primary and secondary. Something you'll see more often this year.

Not really, a pattern would be something that’d be on the replicas and authentics. Usually the differences between the two models are with things like collar and cuff stylings, jocktag/back neck graphics, etc.

This isn't always true. Clubs pick the main differences between the replica and authentic. Typical go to is not included certain sign-offs on replicas (jocktag, back neck, necktape). Always the easiest change since these are considered the high end finishes on a jersey.

If it's an emboss pattern, it's certainly not off the table it wouldn't get included on the replica version. Again just not always the go to choice.

  6. I'd assume it's an image of the replica. The adi stripes, logo and Inter Miami logos are all stitched on. Whereas authentic is the plastic badges, etc.

So still reason to believe it could have a pattern on the authentic.
