  1. So now that they've been replaced, how long til someone says the red sox road uniforms they just ditched? (Oh im sure it could already be in this thread)

Good riddance to those tho imo.

Good riddance, indeed. The Red version is a million times better than the blue version.

  2. $150 for a single Leafs ticket.

    Go :censored: yourself, Glendale.

Wait a minute, is that for ANY ticket at the ACC? As in, $150 even for something in the nosebleeds? God does Toronto have some ridiculous ticket inflation.

It depends on the game. On Stubhub, some Leafs games start at around $50, while others start at $150. The next Leafs-Habs game at the ACC starts at $230 (and that's just standing room only, if you want a seat, it's at least $300).

  3. Admiral, you forgot the other facet of Coyotes revenue... parking, of course! That's like a multi-hundred dollar revenue stream right there.

I'm interested to see how much money they're making off of parking. They made a huge deal about it being this untapped revenue source. I'm interested in seeing how well they're doing on that front.

Fun Fact: I parked in a non-game-designated lot right up front at Westgate for the Ducks game. Free of charge.

Unless you just blindly follow the signs, there's nothing forcing you to the game lots.

Yeah, I went to a Coyotes - Kings game earlier this year, and I just parked over by the Johnny Rocket's in a free parking lot (I believe Lot J). It was still a shorter walk than the walk I take to get from my car to the Honda Center when I go to Ducks games.

  4. How are they going to do it though? Jiggy and Teemu played for the Mighty and non-Mighty Ducks.

I personally wouldn't care whatever team they were retired for (even though it will probably be the Ducks) as long as they don't go back and retire Herbert or Salei or *gasp* Kariya or whoever as non-Mighty Ducks.

Oh, they'll be in the current Ducks colors/style. I have no doubt. But it'd be nice if there was some way to note that Teemu and Jiggy were both Mighty Ducks as well and had huge contributions in their Mighty years. Maybe split it down the middle or something? Half eggplant-teal/half black-gold-orange? That might look cheesy, but I think it'd be nice. Neidermayer was a Mighty Duck too for a short period, but since it was just the one year, it'd be weird if they gave him the Mighty treatment as well.

Like this? (Obviously, I'd hope they'd do a better job of matching it up, but whatever. My rough concept.)

I don't like that at all. Just use the current idenity.

I also hope the retired numbers are on the other side of the Pond, but I wouldn't mind if they did it the way the Kings did it. That works too, but they'll have to move all the current banners over a bit.

  5. I wish they were a bit more creative with the Stanley Cup Banner. Even though it's a different color, it's pretty much the same as the other banners. I like what Chicago does, and I wish they had something more like that.

At the very least, I'd like them to organize their banners in some way that's not completely stupid.

  6. I went to Montreal for the first time this past summer and fell in love with the city. Beautiful downtown, all types of people, a large corporate presence.

While yes it's true that even the second coming of Christ would play second fiddle to the Habs, a baseball team would have very minimal direct competition with them.

A well placed downtown stadium close to the Bell Centre, where Labatt Park was proposed could work very well. A lot of foot traffic, you can get downtown from anywhere in the city in half an hour or less due to a very efficient public transit system.

I was there in July and the city was absolutely booming. Anywhere you looked at any point of the day or night, there's something going on and there are hoards of people walking around.

There is a huge diversity in age, culture, interests.

It's really tough to call it. The Expos yearly attendance was very sporatic. They were drawing 28,000 fans in the early-mid 80s, and then it varied from 8,000-22,000 until the axe swung.

I think at this point, it still may be a bit risky.

Has anyone mentioned Vancouver? I think it may be worth a look.

    - Population of 2.3M.

    - Not much direct competition other than the spring/fall hockey/baseball lap-over

    - BC Lions on the odd Sunday in late summer/early fall and then the Whitecaps

    - It's very much a sports town (so much so that they riot when their team loses :upside: ) and very diverse in every way

    - it has the highest net worth of any city in Canada, meaning a lot of disposable income

    - Massive media production centre (2nd in North America outside L.A.)

It all weighs on whether BC Place could host baseball. It's just been renovated, including the addition of a retractable roof and pretty much new everything else. The place is state-of-the-art. It's mixed on whether it can be properly utilized for baseball however.

Other than that, I mentioned Portland but there seems to be hiccups there as people have said.

I might take some flak for this, but what about Norfolk/Virginia Beach? It's always flirted with whenever relocation comes up in any league. The Kings looked at it last year, Grizzlies and Hornets in 2001-02, the Expos in 03. It's got a metro pop of nearly 2 mill and growing, with no other major league team.

Obviously there would need to be a solid plan on a stadium, but who knows?

I don't think BC Place would work for baseball. They'd have to remove the big scoreboard hanging from the ceiling, and they would have to reconfigure the seating, and it will just be weird.

If Vancouver ever wanted an MLB team, they'd have to build a stadium.

  7. It's only a matter of time before UMass football is a non-scholarship Patriot League affiliate. Except for hockey, lacrosse, and maybe a handful of basketball programs, the Northeast is a wasteland for college sports... especially football.

Largely true, and the local talent that wants to stay in the New England area typically winds up at BC, Syracuse or maybe Rutgers.

Syracuse and Rutgers aren't in New England.

  8. The Islanders black alternate is growing on me. Lol. No idea why. At all.

Maybe you're missing a black script jersey from your life?

I loved those black jerseys, and I'm sad to see them gone.

Replace the "Dallas" with a crest logo, and put some green in the arm stripes, and it's a decent third.

  9. The Sharks need to come up with a new logo that's kind of in-between those logos. The original logo is too bland (practically no teal, etc.), and the newer one is too cartoony (and both sticks are very poorly executed).

I think some MLB teams should bring back colored pants. Some of those all color uniforms from the 70's and 80's were pretty cool in my opinion (especially some of the light blue ones worn by the Royals, Cardinals, Jays, etc.)

(yes, I know that's Roy Halladay in a throwback)

The only teams that would work for are ones who are matched with a very light jersey. It looks good there because both the Jays and Royals are wearing powder blue.

Maybe. I also liked the all-maroon Phillies look (probably wouldn't work with their current red), and the Pirates Yellow jersey/black pants look. And if the Padres go back to Brown and Yellow, I think a yellow jersey/pants with brown sleeve combo could be pretty cool.

  11. You're not making any sense.

    The names are pointless, really.

Anyway, Kev, good work, but shouldn't Nashville move somewhere?

Really, the only teams that should/could be moved are Phoenix and Florida. Nashville has a pretty good following and they're doing much better financially than they were in 2007. Also, you have to remember to be patient with the Nashville's, Carolina's, etc., because it takes more than 10-15 years for a fanbase to start resembling the fanbases to the north (in size). You just can't start moving every "southern" team up north just because they didn't get 400 straight sell-outs out of the gate like Minnesota did. No, it takes time for these teams in non-traditional markets to grow, and you have to be patient. These southern markets are pretty vital for the future of the league and the growth of the game.

... So stop moving all of these teams around when you obviously have little knowledge about their markets and financial situations.
