  1. Not gonna quote what drdougfresh said because that'd be much too big of a post.

But your telling me this is not a different look? I think it totally is from the logo change, helment stripe, font, and the darker shade of blue.

Key word: MAJOR. Yes, they're different. Never said they weren't. What I'm saying is its not a major change in my eyes. Not as distinct as most of the matchups in this thread. Just depends on how nitpicky you want to be, I guess. But yes, technically speaking, those are different uniforms...

  2. Lions vs. Chargers 2007

First year in current Charger unis, second to last year in Lions old unis

The only difference between that Lions uniform and what they wear now is the number font...

...and the pants and helmet striping, and the logo.

And you call yourself a Lions fan, pfft. :P

To me, those aren't major changes. The Sanders-era look was the last iteration before what we have now, IMO. But that's a matter of opinion, I guess.

Wait, you don't consider a logo change, a pants stripe change and a helmet stripe change major changes?

Like I said, its opinion. Overall, the look is remarkably similar. Sure, those are notable changes, but it's not a totally different "look" IMO. There's the Sanders-era look, and the post-Sanders with black added look. Changing stripes and a logo (that's based off the original, anyway) aren't a major change to the overall aesthetic of the uniform in my book. That's what I'm saying.

  4. An 18 mile drive that will take you about an hour (if you're lucky to have zero accidents on the way). The situation is really quite unfortunate for the players and the few loyal fans they do have left, but it's horrible business. And really, PHX is pretty different from a lot of the cities you're used to seeing teams in. Not making excuses for the Coyotes, simply attempting to use logic to explain the situation in this market — which apparently has no use in this thread.

    Carry on.

  5. I knew it was bad last year when the Wings tickets were normally priced — they used to double them for us, Chicago, San Jose, and a couple other teams that travel well (and also account for a majority of the transplanted population's allegiances). But 8k in attendance for game #2 is pretty pathetic.

That being said, simple logic explains the drop off from game one: it was a Wednesday night in PHX. Anyone who has lived here knows what it's like to leave work early and sit on I10 for an hour or two and get to the game halfway through the first. It sucks. Glad I like 10 minutes away for the few times I am there every season. AWA (now US Airways Center) was at least centrally located. If you live in the East Valley, it's easily 100 miles round trip and a couple hours in traffic. Not worth it to a lot of people here.

I still maintain that the only reason this is even an issue is because they moved the team to BFE. They had decent attendance when they were downtown (though the seating at AWA was pretty bad). My point illustrated:

  6. Going back to rams' point, if this is nothing more than the B10 playing the role of "spurned lover turned arsonist" to Notre Dame, I would be slightly surprised. Don't get me wrong, nothing would make me happier than a 4 super conference alignment with ND freezing out in the cold of football independence, but I'm not sure what Rutgers or Maryland bring to the table outside of being located somewhat near large metropolitan areas. If you ask me, a school like Boston College would be a much better fit than a Rutgers from an academic and athletic tradition standpoint.

I agree with you on BC being a better fit, but I'm willing to bet this has everything to do with it:

Obviously, Rutgers and Maryland do NOT have much pull in their respective markets, but you know Delaney is thinking about BTN... and even having access to those areas in the event either team suddenly starts trending upward again, he'll look like a $mart man.

  8. Anyone else seeing really slow load times? Seems like the last couple of days, the boards have been really laggy. For instance, I updated a post today and it took a solid 15-20 seconds to post, which I've never noticed before.

    Yup. Both desktop and mobile.

It seems like the ads are hanging up thread pages, because that's where it always slows down for me. Doesn't explain the mobile site, though (noticed that, too). Must be an IP.board issue.

  9. The bigger issue is that while Birmingham and Montgomery, AL have the highest state/local sales tax combined, the Phoenix area (Maricopia County) has towns/cities with populations over 100K within the top ten. They know may not care for an additional .002 cents/dollar as they are top five in taxes right now. If you need gas in Glendle, then you will get gas. It is the impact on property taxes which will be more important for new home sales/re-sales.

For smaller purchases, you might be right. But what about the car dealer quoted in the article, who rightly fears that the extra $300+ dollars this will add to the price of a car will send his customers one Town over?

Tourists may not realize that sales taxes are higher in Glendale, but the locals sure will. I know plenty of people who will drive a couple extra miles for their regular errands, willing to hop a city line to regularly buy groceries, clothes or to fill up their tank.

Honestly, it happens on a daily basis, whether people realize it or not. I work in Tempe, live in Glendale, and drive through Phoenix every day, and my commute is only 20 miles. Glendale is essentially a part of Phoenix, there's not a clear division. Like most of the outer-limit suburbs that are connected to the city (Scottsdale, Gilbert, Chandler), it's a little more expensive to live there. It's not something that would make a huge difference to the majority of the people living here, IMO? we're not making large purchases like cars/houses every day.

  10. The Detroit/Phoenix capacity comparison is utter garbage. Detroit has been a serious cup contender for about 2 decades now... and has had 80 years to build a fanbase and hockey culture. Having the weather for it certainly helps.

Coyotes are going nowhere. You haters can suck it.

Let their fans celebrate in peace.

Not trying to be a hater. I'm just saying-- the Coyotes don't have a very loyal fan base (in terms of attendance). Probably has a lot to do with where the stadium is now located, but the attendance spikes when certain opposing teams come to town speaks volumes-- we're all transplants here. I would think the growth of the team the last few years would help, but it's just the nature of AZ, I suppose. Same thing happened with the Diamondbacks. I'm just being realistic. I'm happy for the team, they've been fun to watch for the better part of my life in AZ.

I don't understand where this extreme pessimism is coming from, though. It's getting a bit excessive. Let the team celebrate?hopefully they have a new owner that will help grow overall awareness and attendance (because the marketing efforts here in PHX are lackluster at best). That's really what they need to get back on their feet.

  11. I made this last year to show how poor fan support is for the Coyotes:

    wingsrule.png

Using Detroit as a benchmark may make the Coyotes look extra bad, but here's the point: Those near 100% spikes were for the Detroit, Pittsburgh, and Dallas games, if I remember correctly. No one shows up for regular season games, and that's the big issue to me. This year, attendance looked worse at the DET v. PHX games, so it's certainly not helping that the Coyotes are a playoff team? especially when there's a TON of empty seats at a game against your new, heated "rival." We'll see what happens next year, but I'm not holding my breath.

AZ is a "win and we'll show up" state. Drives me crazy.

  12. How do you use the MultiQuote feature? It's getting kind of annoying to open 3 tabs, write out my responses, and then copy and paste them into another window when I want to reply to several posts.

Click multiquote on all the posts you want, and click 'add reply' on the bottom of the page.

  13. Which team will be gone faster: the Islanders or the Coyotes?

I do not want to see the Yotes go, but it is so sad that nobody cares out here.

Moving them from Downtown to the West Valley was one of the dumbest decisions I've ever seen a sports franchise make. Killed their attendance numbers, and in turn, their following (at least from what I can tell). Nice to have the arena 15 minutes away from me, but for someone coming from the likes of Chandler/Gilbert, it takes an hour and a half to two hours to get to the damned arena in rush hour traffic (conveniently when all the games start).

I'll be sad if they leave, but only for the same reason most hockey fans out here would be: i don't get to see my favorite team play the Coyotes live 2-3 times a year.

  14. I use inkscape, and I was wondering what the easiest way to get a nice, even stroke around a logo would be. I know how to use dynamic offset for simple stuff like shields, but for more complex shapes I'm forced to eye it with the Bezier tool.

I copy the main object that's being outlined, condense that down to one solid shape, fill nothing, add a good size outline, and then expand the stroke. You can then make edits to the outline a lot easier, IMO.

Hmm, that's an easier way of what I do, I still find myself getting sloppy, uneven strokes in some areas though.

The way I see it, it takes care of the simpler areas quickly, and it makes it easier to clean up the areas that you want to change. No doubt, sometimes it gets a little messy, though.
