I assume Winnipeg is waiting for a new arena to be built in Thunder Bay?

It really sucks that Belleville is losing their OHL team. If only the Steelheads can replace them. A city like Belleville deserves an OHL team, Mississauga does not.

The Coyotes are worth $45 million. Great jorb, Gary. Great jorb.
That's a jorb well done in grammar.

Phoenix, Nashville, and Florida have this weird triumvirate of really obnoxious power play announcements where they make a big deal out of saying "POWER PLAAAAYYY!!!!!" and sometimes the crowd joins in and then kind of politely applauds itself for successfully saying "power play" together. This must be like when p.a. announcers for NBA games would say "TRAAAA-VELIIIIIINNG!!!!! 'Traveling' is when you don't dribble the ball" or whatever it was.
This Nashville Predators Powerplay is brought to you by Hardee's!
Not as bad as the Kings:
"Ladies and gentlemen, it's a DISC Sports and Spine power play!"
I have no clue if the Preds powerplays are sponsored by Hardee's. I just love the idea of sponsored powerplays. But yes the Kings one is hilariously bad.

You must've not seen the PSU/Iowa game when I was a freshman at Penn State in 2004.That's pretty neat, actually. And if it garners any extra tickets sold, it's better than none.
No matter what game you buy tickets to, you run the risk of the game being a stinker. I've driven 7 hours to Tampa (and 7 hours back, all in the same 24-hour span) to see the Thrashers lose 7-1, and I've driven 6 hours to Memphis directly after a full workday with the Thrashers for a UGA football bowl game the next afternoon, a game where the team wasn't too interested in playing the postseason game and lost 10-6 in what's easily the ugliest football game I've ever seen, either in person or on TV.
Iowa 6, Penn State 4.
No joke.
Yeah, but you walked across campus to attend that game.
I drove all night from Atlanta to Memphis to watch that joke of a game.
Can I join the club? I flew from Toronto to San Juan to watch Toronto FC draw 0-0 with the Puerto Rico Islanders meaning we were knocked out of the Champions League. That was lame.

I'm watching Jets @ Panthers. There is virtually no one sitting in the lower bowl on the bench side between the blue lines, a/k/a the best seats in the house. I did some research and apparently it's become something called "Club Red," where you buy access to a brand-new super-swanky mega-suite for one-percenters, where you can hang out and be rich or go to the seats and watch the game. Which, clearly, no one does. So to the average viewer who isn't conversant with the ever-monetizing ways of Michael Yormark, it looks like no one can be bothered to go to Panthers games. What a way to run a railroad.
I mean, the hell is this? Don't they realize it looks really bad?
Looks like the ACC on a Saturday night

Here is a tidbit on Barron's talk to FSU boosters today.
"He was very impressive and clearly focused on our academics. He did a great job. He did get one question on the ACC. He made it clear that there is a lot of nonsense on the boards and he called out the dude from WVU as being someone who is throwing out stories for his blog.
On the other hand, he made it clear that he studies all of this, he is in constant contact with "various presidents", and make no mistake - he is watching out for FSU and only FSU. To be blunt, he is all over this. Then he says cryptically that he thinks there will be changes. But he would say no more."
I'm telling you, the ACC is far from stable. I also don't think this is all a figment of a tweeter's imagination. Too much movement has been going on for us to continue to be oblivious to the master plan.
I really want FSU to stay so that the Big XII will collapse and enjoy the Louisville-FSU match-ups in the future. The "Dude" is just a WVU fan who is butt-hurt about Louisville's admittance to the ACC and how the ACC used academics to deny WVU from entering the conference. He's using rumors to get revenge on the ACC who didn't allow WVU and their "hillbillies" (How my fellow Cardinal fans call WVU fans) from entering the ACC. FSU is just better off staying in the ACC rather than risking their program's future in the Big XII.
Why would anybody at WVU care about Louisville and the ACC. The Big XII is ten times the conference the ACC is. Look at the beating WVU took in conference by the Big XII...Basically the same team that hung 70 on (ACC champion) Clemson last year.
Does this mean we get to drop 49 on you guys again this year at the Pinstripe Bowl? FUTURE AY-SEE-SEE AY-SEE-SEE AY-SEE-SEE
Oh, and for more realignment lulz, some guy went on Twitter claiming to be a Wake Forest blogger that reported GT and Syracuse to the B1G. For a social experiment. I've now heard everything when it comes to realignment on Twitter.
I fully expect Syracuse to score 49...and still lose by 15

Will the big 12 grab Houston like they did tcu from the huge east/America??! It would be only to reestablish south Texas and keep up with super conferencing
Only if they suffer more defections. Another thought, why isn't the ACC going after West Virginia. Is WV locked in some kind of contract?
The ACC rejected WVU after the SEC did.
Yeah but I think things have changed. I think the ACC would be a lot more receptive to adding them now since they lost Maryland and the loss of Virginia, Virginia Tech, North Carolina, NC State are all very real possibilities. If the ACC could grab Louisville to replace Maryland and then extend an invite to Cincinatti, they could make a move back at West Virginia say hey, we are the first real super conference (at least by Quantity). Even if we lose 1 or 2 members, we'll still have more or equal members than the rest of the conferences.
But Big XII football is miles ahead of the ACC. Plus it gives West Virginia a recruiting in for the state of Texas to compliment the pipeline they have in Florida.
Basically all the ACC has going for them is location and travel.

That said re: admiral's post - HAHAHAHAHA! Maybe its not the economy making cities grow broke, its the idiots who run some of them.
Ding ding ding! Winner! Gagnant!

I don't think it is, but if Penn State did go down, you'd probably see them grab Pittsburgh posthaste because that Pennsylvania footprint needs to replaced.
Granted Pitt is a real crappy replacement for Penn State, but Temple's even worse.
Bucknell for the Big 10!

Yeah, I don't think anyone really wanted anything more than the eight teams that were in the league before (except for maybe the Hamilton Is A World Unto Itself lunatic fringe).
*AHEM*
For one thing Hamilton used to be in the NHL. Secondly Hamilton can support an NHL better than either Winnipeg or Quebec put together.
So it would be nice if you can put away your anti-Hamilton bigotry for once and all...
No just no.
Methinks you've drank too much of that harbour water kool-aid.
-
Never a team in Hamilton? I thought they were right after Quebec City in the race to Make It 30.
Have you looked at Blackberry stock lately? They're now behind Nunavut, which is putting together a preliminary bid for the Red Wings.
Really looking forward the Kootenay Blackhawks, you guys.
Wabush Blue Jackets! 2020 Stanley Cup Champions!

So if someone actually buys the team with a deal that will actually work out long term....can we still joke about turning jobing.com into a parking lot? It could also become an outlet mall, or better yet a flea market.
They should pull a Houston and turn it to an evangelical church.
-
So, we're looking at a C-USA super conference?
Super is a strech
How about a mega conference.

I was in Quebec yesterday, reading the local newspaper. Apparently there's a hunting and fishing expo going on this weekend. They're having the typical door crashers and raffle. One of the prizes is a pair of Season Tickets for the Quebec Nordiques. It's like Hamilton all over again.
-
Oklahoma State also lost to 6-7 Iowa State. A team that finished with a losing record. They only have themselves to blame for putting themselves in a position where they had to resort to comparing resumes.
On the road. In overtime. 24 hours after a school tragedy.
The plane crash is so overstated and not really relevant. The football players have little connection to a WBB coach. More relevant is that they blew a 17 point lead in the 2nd half.
Except they interact every day in athletics facilities. No big deal. Plus it's more of a "That could have been us" dynamic.
The guy in the black sweater is OSU football player Jamie Blatnick.
And Unfortunately that wasn't the first OK State airplane tragedy in recent history.

Saskatoon and Yellowknife would love NHL hockey too. Doesn't mean it makes sense to go there.
Can you imagine the rivalry Churchill and Iqaluit could have?
