Brian in Boston
The Northern League of independent, minor-league baseball is poised to expand... and not just within North America. The league's commissioner, Mike Stone, has said that he'd like to see the 10-team league expand to 16 North American franchises by 2007. Additionally, preliminary discussions have begun aimed at launching a sister-league to the Northern League... in Japan. The league would operate using the same rules, roster management and salary cap as the Northern League. A mid-season All-Star Game would be played between squads representing the two leagues, and a post-season Championship Series would see the champs from each league's playoffs face each other to determine an international champion of independent baseball.Brian in Boston
Lee.
*sigh*....Did we not learn anything from the experiment with the Northeastern league? It seems like a neat idea and all, but eventually, this will likely bite the Northern League in the ass. Miles Wolff and Mike Stone seriously need to sit down and make sure that the current league is running smoothly, and not do something foolish like go international. Or at least, inter-continental. NJTank
I cant see how that will work at all. It takes allot of money and yen to go to Japan, money not there for a minor league. www.sportsecyclopedia.com For the best in sports history go to the Sports E-Cyclopedia at http://www.sportsecyclopedia.com
