Academy Award-winning actor Russell Crowe has purchased the South Sydney Rabbitohs of the National Rugby League competition. Crowe and Australian businessman Peter Holmes a Court reportedly paid $3-million Australian ($2.1-million US) to privatize the club.

Approval of the sale received a 75.8% majority vote amongst club members, just above the 75% majority required for approval. A total of 3,942 club members voted in favor of the sale, with 954 against the transaction.

The new ownership group officially takes over the operation of the club in about a month. Holmes a Court is expected to serve as the team's executive chairman.

i think this could be good for thre side that got kicked out of the league years ago and got back, but about 4500 members is a bit of a worry, for a side with their history i'd have thought there'd be more
