  1. This site started as chriscreamer.com, so you've got your facts wrong, FP. His name WAS the brand for several years until he and another member here who owned sportslogos.net made a deal. It let Chris get his identity back and made use of an otherwise "parked" domain. At least that's how I remember it. The boards bounced around much more before landing here long-term.

I think you skipped a few steps on your "Jump to Conclusions" mat. Egomaniac? No one should be thinking that based on the name of the site. I don't know him personally, so maybe he pops bottles with models and Drake in T-dot VIPs and yells, "I'm Chris Creamer, $!#%@$!" every night... but I kinda doubt it. That kind of stuff ends up on Deadspin. :)

  2. http://www.tsn.ca/coyotes-survival-hinges-on-arena-deal-battle-1.283772

What a carnival that whole situation is.

I also laugh at this last paragraph that talks about potential relocation sites:

As for Quebec City or Southern Ontario: "Nope. Both of those cities make the balanced conference problem worse," said the NHL team owner, who declined to speak publicly for fear of being fined by the league. "I think it leaves us with Las Vegas as our best alternative. I could see them moving the Coyotes there when the new arena is done."

So slightly unbalanced conferences (an issue, sure) is a bigger problem than putting a team in a market that WILL NOT WORK and have the franchise become an epic fail. I know it's an owner that said it but all know the head honchos feel that way as well. I don't understand the NHL.

"All Barroway says he'll give us is 90 minutes, and he says it has to be in New York," Weiers said in an interview. "I'm not going to New York for 90 minutes. I mean, the team is here in Glendale. What's the problem?"

    Cue the Whitesnake...

  3. The idea of two teams at the caliber of the Blackhawks and Blues meeting in round one is absolutely ludicrous to me... No more automatic spots for division standings please!

They're all best of seven series and you're going to have to meet sometime if you want to get to the Stanley Cup finals. Division seeded playoffs are fine.

I like it because it should really build up rivalries even more. Blues were up 2-0 on Blackhawks last year and lost 4-2, now they could meet again in first round? Love it.

I mean the Blues seemed to have something going with the Kings and Blackhawks-Canucks was a thing, but regional rivalries are more appealing to me. Meeting in the playoffs regularly is so much better than meeting regularly in the regular season. And the former might make the redundancy of the latter more fun.

    Sincerely, casual-compared-to-most-members-here hockey fan.

  4. The Memphis Redbirds are revealing a new look on Thursday:

    (Source Tweet)

Having seen the new logo set, I can verify it puts their brand more in-line with St. Louis (see image #2 here), which makes sense now that the Cardinals own the Redbirds.

I can also say this is not the final reveal in MiLB...

Since that second link of yours links to AutoZone Park renovations now, I decided to search that Twitter hashtag on the photo... and the Redbirds didn't even use it. #RebirdsReveal instead. Oops.

But that one looks to be in line with Cardinals logos of the past and present.

  5. I feel so bad for people stuck with the ECHL. What's the point, even. You might see someone's future backup goalie?

I think the Quad Cities are happy to be "stuck" with any hockey at all after a couple trips to death's doorstep.

After CoHL, UHL, 2 years of Flames "AHL," IHL (not the good one) and CeHL, I'm guessing the ECHL is looking pretty good right now in Moline. No facts to back that up, though.

  6. Apparently that's everywhere. Bad ad, but not enough is being done to fix it (at the ad provider level).

I started getting redirected to Lyft in the app store constantly in mid-December and again in mid-January (this time affecting Android, too). Gilt was the other 5% of unwanted redirects. Never used either app or service before.

Ironically, never from this site, but I use mobile almost exclusively now.

Search "slimspots" with spam or virus and you'll find a ton of info and no solutions. That's the site it redirects from before opening the app store.

  7. It still looks good, but they ruined the neon sign vibe that the original updated logo had. I preferred the orange as well. Disappointing.

Being that they're now the A's AAA affiliate can't say I'm worry to see the orange and black go. It didn't feel right having their top minor league team wearing their cross town on and off field nemesis' colors.

Nemesis? They're not in the same league. I understand there's a rivalry, but it's far from Yankees-Red Sox or Cubs-White Sox, isn't it?
Did you mean Cubs-Cardinals? Because Cubs-White Sox is exactly the same, and just as meaningless, at least to older folks.

I wanted to see the orange for Nashville and wondered if the affiliate change influenced this decision. Based on what they went with, that doesnt appear to be the case to me.

EDIT: Looking closer, I'm not a fan of the number font. Too Reds. Also, the N standing alone on a cap would be a stronger mark, IMO. The fact they also use an S and an MC on that guitar pick for the road and alt dilutes the primary mark's strength for me, such as it is.

Something green was appearing on that PDF at smaller sizes for their Sunday cap. Probably just a glitch.

Also, the ability to hit or throw a baseball directly into the hole of a guitar that is moving at high speed is impressive.

  8. As someone who was actually in the building, it was full. it was definitely full during the ceremony. It was full early. Some people left once they got down 3-1 after one. (It was a long night and people are dumb? I don't know.)

Despite all the hassles for non season ticket holders to get tickets (or for anyone to get or even afford merchandise), it was still a standing room only sell out, and it was fantastic.

Also there were reports the ceremony would be 90+ minutes. Can't blame some for not getting there that early... or staying that late. Didn't they honor him just last year? Or all last year?
  9. The top one was all black until last year, I believe.

Yes. I'm a River Bandits guy, sorry. But they aren't a Brandiose team. My wording above makes that unclear.

In recent years, they've had the two above, a black cap with just QC, an all red cap with raccoon logo, a throwback ball/bandana (no hat), a QC with hat and bandana added (red and black, then black and red), an updated ball/bandana logo splashing into water, a claw holding a ball, and one with raccoon holding bat on shoulder.

They also needlessly (IMO) updated the uni script with outlines and a hat.

  10. I wonder how much of this is minor league baseball trying to be all things to all people.

The team I follow rolls out at least one new logo every year -- and it almost always is on a cap -- to the point that I think they might have six total now. I have no idea when they wear these or how often, since most are intended for home use.

And every year, it strays further away from the core identity, all to sell more merchandise, I presume.

Brandiose is likely giving them what they want. Much like in college football, I think consistent designs are a lost cause in MiLB, with a few exceptions.

  11. Here's a bit more frank talk from Bill Daly about the viability of Las Vegas as an expansion market. He seems pretty damned serious about it.

    http://www.startribune.com/sports/wild/282230571.html?page=1&c=y

Interesting if they try to counter-program their "industry nights" as suggested in the article. "Sunday morning rehab" hockey?

Also, there's a Florida Panthers nugget at the bottom:

"The franchise isn't going anywhere," Daly said. "It has a long-term lease and owners who are committed to the market. South Florida is a tough sports market. That's always going to be the case, but a hockey team can be successful there, I really believe that."

    Seems legit. :)
