  1. Yes, I distinctly remember an interview where Selig said "well, personally, I'd like to see the Washington Senators, or Nats for short," and the curly W sort of became the interim logo, then stuck around. Then the mayor said they couldn't be the Senators because DC can't elect any.

I'm also all but certain that the Nationals' script was originally blue with gold beveling and red trim to match the road script, because that logo existed on the mothership for a long time, plus a few weird spots here and there on the Nats' site, but not really anywhere else. They pretty clearly made it red to match the W hat, which was stupid.

Sounds like a book white women discover on TikTok

The Sharks alternate is good but I still prefer the originals and the alternating black (hard) and teal (soft) elements.

If the league decides he has to sit because the NCAA hits him with sanctions, then what is he bringing to the team other than drama? Not saying it's guaranteed to occur, but if Warren was told there's a pretty good chance that Michigan, and Harbaugh, are getting hammered there's no reason to bring him in.

The NFL would tell the NCAA to sit and spin because they have no right to suspend the hottest coaching hire in another league.

Was the Jazz the biggest flop/most tone deaf rebrand of all time?

Are we talking NBA, Big Four, or Big 4+1? Because the Chicago Fire accidentally ripped off a gang symbol and had to walk it back as soon as possible. And the alarm-clock Buccaneers were so poorly received that they basically went back to their old uniforms, though whether that was a rebrand or just new uniforms within an existing brand is up for debate. But as far as the NBA goes, I can't think of a rebrand that went worse than Utah's.

If you're cool with finishing with 9, 10, and occasionally 11 wins, but neve being a real threat, then sure.  But I'm not sure why any franchise would strive for that.  And before some dope says "some teams would kill for that" that's a dopy thing that only dopes say

Nope, NFL playoff berths are lottery tickets, get as many as you can. This isn't 46-36 NBA purgatory we're talking about. The Steelers and Packers are always better off getting in and seeing what happens than not getting in and not seeing what happens.

  6. The Bears talked themselves out of hiring Jim Harbaugh because they're still deathly afraid of the head coach being anything but a polite gentleman. Tell me again how Kevin Warren was going to change everything because he has a law degree.

  7. It wasn't a missed opportunity. It was a just plain miss. All they were trying to do was cash in on the Mark Cuban Mavericks. Sloppy logo recolor, MS WordArt scripts, phantom side panels. None of it was good, but the board consensus at the time was that it "screamed Utah," to this day one of the most enervating board memes.

Sorry, I just fell asleep for a moment. The Yankee$ have finally gotten what their fans have wanted for a while now: the most boring road kit in MLB. Congratulations. I'm sure the $ you saved on no longer paying for white outlines will be well spent.

I like this move for the Yankees. The road uniform always felt sort of out of place with the white outlines.

I hated it when the Red Sox did this, though. The roads they use now are much better.

It didn't work when the Red Sox did it either time:

Because the Yankees don't have a home script to begin with but rather a monogram, they're not bound to any sort of matching across jerseys. The Red Sox have their distinctive Tuscan red lettering at home, but had an ugly mismatch with either a single-layer navy version the last time or plain block the first time around. Both were bad but the newer one was worse because they should have known better by now.

The other thing that made it worse was the lack of the team's dominant color. I've been steadfast in saying that the Red Sox need a balance of navy and red, with navy undershirts and jackets contrasting with red lettering and, of course, socks. The Red Sox had since gone all-in on red circa 2004 to be in opposition to the Yankees' midnight blue, a move I never liked because most of their red-base stuff just looks worse. The Red Sox went so far into the home/road split that initially they even wore blue socks. That's ridiculous.

They should go straight-up Seahawks.  Ecto Cooler green, navy, and silver.

Their uniforms have always been "nice", but not.... inspiring.  Not special.  Just... nice.  Time for a change.  Time to make some noise.  Time to brighten things up and embrace the scheme that the other outdoor Seattle teams have made nearly standard for the city.

Counterpoint - I wonder what they'd look like in a Kraken-colored scheme.  I think I'd still prefer Seahawks, but Kraken could be cool too.

I think the Mariners could commit to a true sea foam green and not just the Kraken's pale greenish blue that sometimes looks sea foam green but technically isn't. Or they could go with neon green like other teams in town (presumably any returning Sonics team would add it in the way the Storm did).  I just feel like the current identity has been so poorly maintained through both on-field play and actual tinkering that, since it's not their inaugural color scheme anyway, there's no imperative to keep it anymore.

    Why specifically 2009?

Opening of New Yankee Stadium and a return to select pre-renovation aesthetics, e.g., frieze moving back from outfield to grandstand, natural stone exterior rather than whitewash. I mean, they could have done it at any time before or after that, too, but that would have been the cleanest break.

  12. Amy Winehouse didn't tell her fans that she was their best friend and that she cared personally about each and everyone one of them. Mostly she just threw up on herself. We didn't know how well we had it.

Also, Taylor comes from serious wealth, unlike a lot of the pop/movie stars from the early ‘00s who got brutalized by tabloid media (Winehouse, Smith, Spears, Lohan, etc.).

She also had the benefit of breaking out after people started backing away from intense celebrity stalking (paparazzi are professional stalkers, IMO) following the Britney ‘07 meltdown. Taylor was also not on the radar of the relentless British tabloid press (see Amy Winehouse).

Not 100% sure on the stalking, she always has people breaking into one of her twenty different mansions. However, I don't think it's an outgrowth of paparazzi culture so much as her own brand of lore and world-building: while I was discreetly googling for a picture of her looking like she's farting into her microphone, I saw some other image trying to show that her nail polish matched the lettering on a t-shirt from a music video and was thus a special easter egg for her devoted fans. This parasocial insanity used to be reserved for people trying to expose The Truth About Israel or to impress Jodie Foster, but now it's just acceptable content creation for marketing girlies.

Anyway, hoping for a 49ers-Chiefs rematch as I enjoy their work but Lions-Chiefs would be fun too.
