Jinxes in sports usually happen when the jinxer doesn't mean to create a jinx. It's why it usually doesn't matter when the fans of the team getting shutout or no-hit keep repeating the words.
At least that's from what I've observed.
To be fair, the last 10 Presidents Trophy winners didn't win the Cup. We'll see if that trend continues.

Caps outmatched by the Rags in all facets of the series. This is the third time Ovie has gone without a point in a series against NY. I am still happy Caps made it to the playoffs to subvert expectations. I anticipate there will be significant roster changes this off-season.
If Rags continue to play at this level, then theyll be hard to beat in the Final. Even better if I jinxed them!

If I'm being honest; no one deserved the eighth seed in the Eastern Conference, but someone had to win it. Glad it was Washington.
-37 goal differential, lmao
The negative GD is quite a dubious distinction! I'm happy they made it out of the 4 teams battling for the final spot. Even better clinching the second wildcard against the Flyers in Philly!

I agree with you on both statements!

The Caps and Rangers split the regular season series this year, which might not mean anything in the playoffs. I hope the Caps make this a good series!

"Bold" Caps predictions for the upcoming season.
- Mantha and/or Kuznetsov are traded before the deadline.
- Ovechkin scores 35 goals (any more than that is fantastic!).
- They sneak into the playoffs as one of the wildcards.

The remaining 2 predictions are long shots.Well holy :censored:ing :censored:, the Caps made the playoffs as the last wildcard!!! Ovie ended up with 31 goals.

Do you think Blumpkin will try to make a play for the Football Team now that the Capitals stayed put? I know Snyder had been exploring a move to Virginia for quite a while.
I'd imagine that the Governor learned his lesson with this defeat. He pretty much botched the handling of the situation. Honestly, there's only been two options, either keep them in Maryland or relocate to a refurbished RFK Stadium in the District.

For those with closer knowledge of DC area sports, can Washington DC afford to keep the Caps and Wizards and also get a new stadium done at the old RFK site for the Commanders?
With the Caps and Wiz staying in DC (a no-brainer) with $515 million in renovations, the floor has been set for luring the WTFs back to the RFK stadium site. However, I suspect it will cost DC at least $1.5 billion for redevelopment and bringing football back to the District.
The only metric I am going with is the construction cost of NFL stadiums from a 2022 article. -

CONCACAF-CONMEBOL merger into COPANFUT
2030 marks the year the first ever edition of the FIFA World Cup marks its centennial anniversary, and the Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) and the South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL) would announce that it would merge their structures into the Panamerican Football Confederation (COPANFUT).
This would mean both CONCACAF and CONMEBOL's club and national team competitions and qualifiers would merge their structures.

My mindset was that if Vegas got a team, whomever ends up being the owner could try to buy the Viper name from the UFL if Dany and The Rock still have the trademark. I just typed that one up because I wasn't feeling very creative earlier today.
I wasn't sure what other nicknames could've worked for Vancouver so I did a Bobcats/Hornets/Pelicans exchange with Memphis.
How would this look for the Western Conference? At first, I was trying to avoid breaking up the California and Texas rivalries. In short, I based that initial lineup on what the NBA looks like currently in real life.
Division A
Seattle Supersonics
Sacramento Kings
Utah Jazz
Portland Trailblazers
Vancouver Grizzlies
Golden State Warriors
Division B
LA Clippers
LA Lakers
Las Vegas Vipers/Scorpions/Venom/Flamingos/Cobras/Gila Monsters/Bighorns
Denver Nuggets
Phoenix Suns
Oklahoma City Thunder
Division C
Spirits of St. Louis
Memphis Jackals
New Orleans Pelicans
Dallas Mavericks
Houston Rockets
San Antonio Spurs
That's understandable about the Vipers nickname situation. Out of the alternative names, Cobras or Scorpions sound good. I thought maybe Gila Monsters could work too but not sure if the NBA is ready for a two word team nickname, haha.
The revised Western Conference Divisional format can work. It's refreshing to not see all the Californian teams in one division.

That's a good list. A couple of questions/comments:
- The mention of Vipers brought to mind the now-defunct XFL team from Las Vegas. Are you contemplating opting for an alternative nickname, or do you intend to stick with the Vipers?
- In the Northwest Division, there are three newly added expansion teams, the highest number among all divisions. Have you considered relocating one of these expansion teams to a different division?
- I love seeing the Spirits back in the NBA and great alternative name choice for Memphis (I remember it was a soccer team name in the 1990s).

I didn't watch the match, but kudos to
Montreal Impact / Club de Foot Montréal /CF Montréal for being the first MLS squad to vanquish Inter Messi CF 3-2 on Sunday. -

"Five (frustrating) NHL predictions for 2024"
Brodie Brazil predicts, among other things, that:
1. The Arizona Coyotes will move to Salt Lake City, but the NHL will then turn around and grant an expansion team for the Phoenix market that would debut if and when the Phoenix area finally has a new NHL-specification and NHL-size arena.
2. The NHL will award a third expansion franchise to the Atlanta market.
I wouldn't stomach the Blackhawks if they "won" the draft again this year.

Having or not having the 'best' players in your league isn't the only metric for a country's major leagues.
If you want to get specific, then, there isn't really a 'major league' in soccer internationally. Not the EPL, not Serie A, not Bundesliga, none... Because they are a few 'great' teams that draw all the stars and a bunch of essentially AAA teams who cosplay as top tier teams.
In EPL, you can name the 4 or 5 likely winners of the league five years from now and probably be accurate. For every Leicester City, there's dozens of champions claimed by the repetitive, expected contenders.
MLS will never 'be that' because the league structure is far more American and they're not going to let Orlando or Kansas City or Nashville flounder as cannon fodder just so a few LA/NYC teams dominate the league year-to-year buying whoever they want. In US sporting culture, an European-styled league will not survive if it's the same few monied power-teams winning titles year after year after year.
Most of the country is probably annoyed that Kansas City just won a title two years in a row. Can you imagine if the NFL had a Bayern Munich-like team who have won the Bundesliga TEN STRAIGHT YEARS? There'd be 500 people at non-Bayern games.
The UEFA Champions League stands out as the sole major soccer (football) league that comes to mind for me.

AL/NL West: ANA or LAA/LAD; OAK or LV/SF; SEA/SD; ARI/COL
This is perfect.

We all know the Big 4 (NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL) but is there a fifth major league and if so who?
I am not counting NASCAR because I consider them more of a major sports tour like PGA (golf) and ATP (Tennis) than a league.
Currently, there's no fifth major league. MLS has the potential to become the fifth major league should they capitalize on the 2026 World Cup craze by evolving into the league where top talent come to play while in their prime instead of players coming here to bookend their professional careers after playing in Europe.

I've seen this number a few times, and a lot of it seems to be built on the subtext that MLS's financials seem to rely somewhat heavily on these expansion fees. That said, the sky is kind of the limit for MLS- the "big 4" have a somewhat finite player pool, but MLS could probably easily get to 40 teams with minimal talent drain.
The original NASL relied on expansion fees towards the end of the league's demise. MLS has ballooned from 12 clubs in 2006 to 30 clubs by the 2025 season. I'm just wondering how MLS will sustain itself if and when it's finished expanding. There's always the potential of an MLS, Liga MX, and maybe a CanPL merger in the future.

Agreed. Also, from a small fix stanpoint, it would make sense if San Antonio would be placed in the 'Central' with the other Texas teams, then have Milwaukee to the Northwest, and later Vegas to the Pacific.
It might not look ideally perfect, due to Milwaukee and Chicago being actually close by; but from a bare minimum standpoint, it's close enough.
That's an interesting perspective regarding Milwaukee. A natural divisional rivalry could emerge between them and Minnesota.

I anticipate Oshie retiring this offseason and Backstrom will be on LTIR for another season before he retires, too. I expect Pacioretty to leave via Free Agency and the Front Office trading away Jensen and Kuemper, who hasn't been a good fit here.
