  1. The University of Massachusetts at Amherst will announce at a press conference at Gillette Stadium tomorrow that the school's football team will be moving to the NCCA Football Bowl Subdivision's Mid-American Conference in time for the 2012 season. With the move, UMass will shift all of its home football games from the on-campus Warren P. McGuirk Alumni Stadium to Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Massachusetts.

UMass football press conference will announce upgrade to FBS

3 questions: What is the commute like? Is the attendance going to be like "Temple in the Linc?" Is this a temporary move pending massive stadium building or not?

Amherst is about 90 miles from Foxborough.

Last season, UMass averaged 13,004 on campus (capacity of ~17,000). They did host New Hampshire at Gillette Stadium last season drawing 32,848. The Boston Herald says that the school will expand, but they should play at least one or more games at Gillette in order to keep attendance above the FBS minimum of 15,000.

Yeah, no one will be going to Gillette from campus. I missed the UNH game last year but the lack of a student section, although there isn't much of one now, is something to think about. (Not really -- it won't affect anything, but it won't be a great atmosphere obviously.)

Re: Temple in the Linc -- essentially. There are over 200,000 alumni who will probably be temporarily excited though, and many of them (who stayed in the NE area) live closer to Gillette than Amherst.

The article only says "a majority of home games" will be played at Gillette. And I don't know, expansion won't really help much. McGuirk is a POS. The move will happen regardless, but other than the problem of finding unused unprotected land on campus, this is a perfect opportunity to raise money for a new stadium.

I wish UMass somehow found a way to sneak into the Big East (fat chance), but this is a good start. I don't think that goal is completely dashed, either -- they could be a pretty good fit in a few years if they expand the program efficiently. Still, it's good to have more bigtime college football around here.

  2. I'd rather be able to remember who division foes are kthxbye. The problem with ACC and this alignment is that you could shuffle the lineup annually and nobody would know the difference.

EDIT-Also, the Big Ten plays more than football. Michigan State and (sometimes) Illinois aside, the Land Division is one craptacular basketball division.

Well the Big Ten doesn't have to use the division in the other sports. The ACC only uses theirs in football, basketball is just a single table. But you do have a point. I have no idea what the ACC's divisions are for football. That may have something to do though, with the fact that I slowly stopped watching the conference after expansion.

Most other conferences do use the divisions though. The fact that the ACC doesn't probably stands as further testament to the patent ridiculousness of their divisional setup.

Not really, though. Of all FBS conferences that use divisions, only the SEC and MAC use them for basketball. The ACC, Big XII, and Conference USA lose the divisions for basketball.

EDIT: The CAA and SWAC also lose them for basketball, while the Sun Belt, Southern, and Southland only use divisions for basketball.

  3. Does anyone have a basketball jersey template with shading/wrinkles that is compatable with Photoshop? If so, I can PM you my e-mail.

    Thanks,

    Mike

    Did mine fail? :P

I think Shumway's also had that shadowness to it.

  4. Well, how do you mean? You're right, it is different. But it's similar. Draw your shape with the Bezier Path tool like you would in Illustrator, but if you want to edit the path afterwards, go to the node tool and click on the path. Then you can edit all the nodes, kind of like the Direct Selection tool. Basically it's all condensed into those two tools. The Node tool can also add points, join nodes, etc., like the tools in the Pen Tool drop-down menu would.

What is confusing you about it?

  5. Me and my 546,230 followers think it's Georgia.

About 2 seconds ago from TwitterBerry

Also: Shaq gets about 7 new followers every time I refesh. He had "only" 300,000 about two weeks ago. Crazy.

  6. Sorry, forgive me. I was grumpy. If you ever want to make the jump I will be happy to answer any questions or help you through any struggles you might encounter. Also I think the Paint template floating around should work in Paint.net.

  7. Anyone just have a good soccer jersey and shorts template. Socks also

I'm also looking for this as I'm working on a concept for theflakeband's MLS Redesign thread. But I need a raster template that can be used in Paint.net. I'm not fortunate enough to have a vector program.

    Yes you are.

  8. What in the world do you mean "Drop it into Illustrator?"

Unzip the font file and place it in your C:\Windows\Fonts folder, or unzip it to your desktop or something, right click on it, and click "Install." Simple as that.

  9. Make a selection around the color area you want to change (like pants for example; I recommend using the paths tool -- should take up to 10 minutes but after a bit of practice you'll be very accurate) and go to Color > Colorize or Hue/Brightness/Saturation... Basically just mess with those sliders until you get the color you want, hope that helps...

  10. Anyone got a good soccer template for a MS Paint user? BMP or GIF.

I checked the list, and the only soccer template I saw was for a long-sleeved goalkeepers' jersey, so any help here would be appreciated! Thanks.

Here, I made and posted this a few pages back: (credit to beatnik for the original template)
