  1. Been a while since I actually commented on these forums, so I just wanted to come in and say "Suck it, Gary. You lost your precious."

...although I know Meruelo retains the right to reactivate the Coyotes, this has been a long time coming. Cities shouldn't have to bankrupt themselves to keep a sports team afloat.

As I say this, my own city of Sudbury, Ontario is putting forth plans to probably demolish and rebuild our own arena using $200 million in loans. FML

  2. Frankly, I'm just happy the SEC doesn't get into the championship game this year. The bias is strong in the selection committee.
Hopefully with 12 teams in the playoff going forward, we'll at least see all the Power 5 conference champions make it, with a couple surprises.

    No flaw, just maw (more)

I'm not going to knock the fervour of the fanbase because the city of St Louis clearly loves their football and hates that it lost its NFL franchise - twice. That is for sure a :censored:ty thing for any sports fan. I'm just talking about winning, tigers.

Now Ohio State needs to win to make the championship game a match up between a team that lost its conference title game and a team that didn't even make its conference title game. That would be a perfect illustration of the absurdity of the current system.

    Agreed!

Also - let all 10 conference champions qualify for the 12-team expanded playoff. Then let one independent and one championship loser in. It's a "playoff", not a "popularity-off". You win, you should get in.

  5. Someone once mentioned a change to the NBA schedule that I liked, so here's another pointless realignment, along with remembering that schedule idea.

Pacific Division: Blazers, Lakers, Clippers, Kings, Warriors
Midwest Division: Jazz, Suns, Nuggets, Thunder, T-Wolves
All other divisions remain the same

The idea was: 44 games per season, with a mid-week game and a weekend game each week for 22 weeks.
Teams would play the opposite conference once and the same conference home and home, which works out to 43 games, and then one more game against a designated rival.
(I figure Minnesota would pair with Chicago or Milwaukee for game #44).

Of course, ticket prices would probably increase dramatically to compensate for the lost revenue, and the TV network deals would all have to be scrapped and renegotiated.

    Alternatively, I would suggest:
    80 game season (20 divisional games, 30 conference, 30 cross-conference)
Only a slight bump in ticket prices is required here. ;)

  6. My best moments as a sports fan:

    Pro leagues:
NHL:  Game 5 of 2010 Eastern Conference Final
MLB: Game 6 of 1993 World Series
NBA: Game 6 of 2019 NBA Finals, Game 7 of Raptors-Sixers Series (2019)
    CFL: 2004, 2012, 2017 Grey Cups
    NFL: Super Bowls 42, 45, 46, and 52

Olympics: 2002/20210 Gold Medal Ice Hockey Games (both women's and men's games)
    Donovan Bailey's 1996 gold medal - 100 m

Intramural sports: Watching my buddy's flag football team win their local league championship
(I know, lame - but it was a special moment for us)
