  1. Yeah I found a few red/black diagonal jerseys at a Surrey SportChek priced at $135 the other day. Pretty expensive for a terrible, always unpopular jersey.

I got mine from River City Sports on clearence for $80.00. Was very happy mostly due to the fact that it is that ugly!

  2. I think this has been posted, but Petr Nedved played for Canada 20 years ago at the Olympics,

He'll be representing the Czech Republic again this year

I was curious about this. Isn't there a rule in the IIHF that says once you've played for one country internationally, you can't play for another? I know there is an exception to the rules with the former Soviet players playing for their true countries now, but for Nedved, I heard he wasn't allowed to play for the Czechs until now.

I read something about it and I believe there is a time period of 11-15 years without competition and then you are eligable again. I'm not to sure on the specifics of it.

  3. I've seen an insane amount of pictures today on FB and Twitter that just leave me shaking my head and I don't have the heart to tell people either. It really is a shame.

Are the people who buy this stuff typically under the impression that it's legit? Given how much of it you see around, I'm guessing that many if not most of the people who buy this stuff must think they just scored a really good deal on a legit jersey as opposed to having knowingly bought a bootleg.

I think so. 2 of my closest friends got knock off winter classic jerseys for christmas. They are clearly fakes and both of these buddies were bragging to me asking if I wanted to know who their "hook up is".

I just took the info and threw it out. I didn't have the heart to tell them, they were so excited.

Yah most people I saw thought these were legit and were over the moon, thing that drives me the most nuts is the lack of felt crests, do they not look at mine and see the glaring differences?

  4. Spoke to someone inside the Quebec Remparts organization today. They have been told behind closed doors that Quebec City will be getting an NHL team.

Did they specifically say Quebec would be getting the team next year, or just that they were promised one?

He said Quebec was told they were getting one.

This article somewhat fits with what you're saying too. Looks like Quebec City is first on the NHL's list of cities and that it'll either be the Coyotes (in the next year or two unless a miracle occurs in the desert) or expansion team 31. Either way Quebec City is on the top of the list to get the next relocated or expansion team. Seattle is their second choice if the can get an arena built, and Markham is third and if the Coyotes do miraculously stay in the desert Markham could be left out in the cold.

If that article is accurate we'd likely eventually see a division of Toronto, Markham, Ottawa, Montreal, Quebec, Buffalo, and 2 others. Imagine the potential playoff series there with in division playoff!

  5. Wow I stand corrected. I got a direct tweet from Mike Modano saying he signed that piece of crap.

I tweeted him a pic of the jersey and here is the response:

I responded by asking "Why its an obvious counterfeit" I'll let you guys know what response (if any) I get.

Twitter is a great tool, I've gotten mentioned by Jeff O'Neill, Taylor Hall, and Evander Kane in the past 2 weeks. Started a little issue with some Oilers fans when O'Neill told me Taylor Hall was a prick.

I look forward to seeing if Mike responds to you.

  6. Alright. Next question is, did they want to keep the gravy train rolling in hopes they would eventually find a patsy to buy the team with heavy subsidies, or are they just collecting welfare and biding their time while the QC arena is built and the Seattle basketball situation shakes down?

Yes. To both. They're not going to box themselves in. Both are options they were pursuing. Obviously the former's ship seems to have sailed and the latter hasn't completely shaken out (ie: Seattle isn't ready yet and may not be ready for a long time thanks to Sacramento). But there is still Quebec who is ready to go now and possibly Markham.

Markham is ready to build, Quebec is building and has an arena that could serve as a part time home. Lets move the team already!

  7. I'm, biased, but I don't see how this can possibly be seen as anything other an a very large black eye for Gary Bettman and the NHL.

You have a major league team for sale. One of the "Big 4". And they can't find anybody willing to take it off their hands for a measly $170M? With a sweetheart lease deal from the city thrown in for good measure?

Looking around that BIg 4, do you think that Bud Selig, or Goodell or Stern, couldn't pick up the phone and find someone outside of the club to open their wallets and put Jamison over the top? Bettman has had four years, and can't come up with the money unless he makes the owners themselves pay it. Hell, the next MLS expansion fee is expected to get near $100M, and that doesn't even cover a single cost of building the team. $170M for a whole organization (and a good one) is peanuts.

That's a sign of a league in very deep trouble, when people with money don't actually want to be part of it.

I don't think it's a question of people with money not wanting to be apart of it, but more about people not wanting to lose the said money by being apart of it in Phoenix. If the NHL said we're auctioning the team off at the end of the month, the new owner can do what they want pending BOG approval, they'd likely get a far greater amount for the club.

  8. Question for the group....Which aspect is it that most of you frown upon when it comes to counterfeits? Is it the intent to make a dollar off of them? Or just the act of creating something using someone else's work?

I ask because I'm just curious to see where the DIY'ers rank in your minds. And I mean the DIY'ers who create their stuff for their own use....Not to sell.

Here is a question I have...there's a company called Dorholt Custom sports that was making Devils xmas tree jerseys (before the throwbacks from CCM were available), Cleveland Barons jerseys, Fighting Saints, a few others...all jerseys that at the time were no longer produced.

Technically they fell into the fake category as they were not officially licensed by the NHL, but being the only way to get your hands on them would be an old used version from Ebay...I feel it wasn't as bad as Chinese fakes of existing jerseys. I think they still do the red xmas tree jerseys, which is bad since you can now get them from the NHL Shop, but they remain the only place to get a new white version of the xmas jersey.

I've always thought if I could find a good Cleveland Barons fake I'd purchase it. Therefore I see where you are coming from if you really love a jersey and that's the only way it's available then to me that's the only exception when buying knock-offs.

  9. They speak French, though! Fun fact: the penalty for "roughing" translates to Quebec French as "rudesse." You are sent to the box for rudeness. I love it. Hockey just sounds so right in French, I don't know what it is.

Not quite... Rudeness, in French, would be "grossièreté". Rudesse really translates to roughing as it is a physical act, whereas grossièreté is more of a verbal act.

I think he was saying rudesse when said sounds like rudeness.
