  1. I've thrown some options up on zazzle for sale: STL Rally Squirrel Shirt
  2. I think the days of sports logos with multiple strokes and collages of symbols are over. The new trend is clearing the clutter and giving the team marks some room to become iconic, rather than trying to force it. And now, teams are adding more and more secondary logos to carry all the different iconographies, instead of cramming them all in one mark.
  3. I wanted to update the Jets mark, simplify it and add more color contrast to it. The wordmark is original, no fonts used. The red mark is an abstract burst inspired by a fighter jet, the canadian maple leaf and super sonic explosions - in other words, total awesomeness. For the uni's, I kept things as close to the originals but also matching the updated identity.
  4. I picked the name to honor the Winnipeg Bear. It seemed like a natural fit for a city mascot. I like the bear appearing stoic and noble as opposed to ferocious. I also incorporated a stylized "W" with the bear. As for the jerseys - I used black for obvious reasons. The Northern Blue and Canadian Gold is taken from the Atlanta color scheme. The tan is used instead of white to add more warmth when combined with black (like a pint of Guinness).
  5. Thanks for the kind words. I agree that it needs to sit upright a bit more. Thanks for bringing that up. I'm cleaning up the curves and adjusting the angles. I'll repost with some secondary logos as soon as I can. Glad you guys like it!
  6. This is the primary mark so far, I'll be expanding it to secondary mark, wordmark and maybe a uni look.
  7. Fantastic. Great color and modern style.
  8. This looks too much like Boise State. Try different angles or poses.
  9. This board is for sports logos if I'm not mistaken. So, yes, I think there needs to be a sub forum for the uniform tweaks. Either that or create another forum that is only for complete identity and branding concepts.
  10. It was Joe Bosack. Collegiate Licensing Co. is just a legal manager of the marks. Once the job closes for Bosack, it's up to BSU to maintain the rights and protect it.
  11. Haha, I kinda already gave him a freebie when he was trying a solo act, I redesigned his logo for him. I was thinking % of the sales, but honestly I could really use the money now, lol, so an initial payment would benefit me more right now. Thanks for the advice guys! Based on your experience (which I guess is none) I would charge $20 an hour. I'm an art director at an ad agency and my freelance rate is about $85/hour. It usually ranges from $50-$100. But, really, if he's your buddy you should just be happy you're working on something. Give it to him for free.
  12. That is a pretty sweet concept Thanks guys! I was also pretty let down by the new look. I work in the advertising industry as an art director I can say from experience that when something that uninspired and lifeless comes out, it's 95% the client art directing too much. My best guess is that the front office was scared of venturing too far from what they had (not knowing they should start from scratch). Or they took pieces from five different concepts and threw them all together. It's like painting. When you mix all the vibrant colors together you get a dull brown color. It's a shame they let a great opportunity go to waste, but I guess their marketing skills are as sharp as their player scouting skills.
  13. Whenever I see a worst football uni list and either Florida A&M or Columbia University isn't on the list - it's instantly not credible.
  14. Wow! This is by far the most forward-thinking logo design I've seen on this board. Outstanding. I wouldn't change a thing to this, i.e getting rid of the detail, gradients or drop shadows because this logo represents the future of sports logos. With HDTV taking over, logos can be pretty rich and detailed with complex lighting rendering. It will only improve as time goes on. Look at all the graphics for NBC sports, Fox sports etc. The flashier the better and I think sports teams will follow suit. So don't feel like you have to strip away all the detail inorder for it to be "realistic". The purpose of this board is to create forward thinking concepts. I would actually like to see you go the other direction than everyone else wants you to. I say try to put more deatil in the TB element. Maybe work with transparency and warping to make it wrap on the baseball and explore rotating it to add some more interesting angles. Even try increasing the contrast of lights and darks to give it more dramatic lighting. Awesome work, man. I really like the direction you're going.
  15. These are still only replicas, but a much cleaner and trendier look for Boise State. I love them.
  16. I also want to tell Brian in Boston that it's not cool to post other people's concepts in other message boards without their permission. I only want my work on this forum because the members here respect the work and don't steal it, redesign it and call it there own. So please Brian in Boston, I know you're are only trying to get the buzz started, but don't post my work in other forums. Thanks.
  17. Wait is there really a restriction on the use of covered stadiums by FIFA? IIRC there's a German team and a Japanese team that both use covered stadiums. Glad to see someone take my logo and create a really crappy version of it, call it his "own" and think he's a creative logo designer. I know that putting a logo on the web opens your work up to someone to take, but I'm still going to go on that board and let him have it.
  18. It is nice out there, but you have to get through East St. Louis first
  19. Thanks for the great comments! I love doing logos and seeing the initial reactions they get (it's like spring training for graphic designers). It's really the best way to improve. Some reactions based on the reactions: I agree the colors are pretty safe, so I could do another version with more adventurous colors, but I thought I'd stay traditional. Since Budweiser has the Cardinals, Bud Light seems to have the Rams, I thought Select would be a nice fit for the A's of St. Louis. Again, my uni effort is never really there, but if any of the uni experts on the board want to take a shot, have at it. It would be cool to see what direction you take it. I think if St. Louis got a MLS team they would probably build something out in west county. Gotta hit the soccer suburbs for fans. Maybe out in Webster Groves or something. Personally I would love to see something in Dogtown since the Blues left that area for downtown. So many great sports bars without a team in the neighborhood. I have to admit that the font selection was based on the fact I bought that font about 2 years ago from an Australian type shop and haven't used it in anything yet. But I also love the style of it for the logo - it's kind of sporty, but also has a slick sans serif feel. It's called Baksheesh if you wanted to know.
  20. I know St. Louis is a possible city for the future expansion of the MLS so here is my concept for it. The imagery incorporates the Gateway Arch. The Fleur de Lis symbolizes STL's French heritage and as it also appears on the city flag. Overall the choice was to create a very traditional logo because of St. Louis' long history with the sport of soccer. So the goal (no pun) was keep the logo simple and timeless. The deep red color represents the brick building landscape of St. Louis. The tan and cream represents wheat and the deep brewing history of St. Louis. The colors also pay tribute to the Cardinals as a sports city but still maintaining it's own voice. You may wonder why St. Louis is spelled out. It is symmetrical that way and is used very often in the city. As for the unis. I did a quick design, but I never really like doing uniform design so I'll leave them at that.
  21. Some may remember this winning design from the "Ray of Hope" contest about a year ago. My submission to that contest had a Navy and Lime Green color scheme. Since the Blue, Light Blue and Yellow scheme seems to be the one the Rays are going with, I decided to update my work. I did change the Primary logo a bit. I added more action to the breaking wave behind the "Rays" script to make it more obvious. I also added a yellow stroke to represent the sunlight breaking out over the wave. The uniforms haven't changed much besides the colors. I did go with a shoulder piping on the home and alternate jersey just to have a slight uniqueness to the uniform.
  22. I know for sure that my alma-mater Boise State University will be getting new Nike unis for this season. Helmets will stay the same, the all blue will stay as the home uniform, but orange jerseys may be seen this year during one home game. The design will NOT be the same as Oregon State even though some have rumored that and will be made from the newer Nike performance materials. By the way, if you haven't figured it out by now Sooners - the ball was in the quarterback's other hand.
  23. I did it about a year ago for a contest on this board. My only concern is from what I hear, Tampa Bay is getting closer and closer to this concept. I just hope they don't rip it off, since they ignored my pitch to them shorty afterward. Just replace the lime green with yellow.
