  1. Wait a minute. Hasn't it already come to light that Greg Jamison was never interested, but that the potential ownership group was being led by Kelowna businessman Gary Jamieson? Is Roenick bull :censored: ing that hardcore?

When the story about Jamieson broke, people (including myself) questioned whether Jamison was ever involved. Looking back through all the stories regarding the former Sharks CEO, everything was non-commital and vague. At no point did he say, or even imply that he was actually trying to buy the Coyotes.

While I believe that Glendale council or Phoenix media might confuse the Jami(e)sons, I pretty sure that Roenick would recognize Greg Jamison, which means that Jamison is really trying to pursue the Coyotes.

I should note that Roenick is not part of Jamison's group, only that he has been approached and is possibly interested. Which means that Jamison is pretty much scrapping the bottom of the barrel for investors and is still coming up short...

  2. I think the biggest factor in all this is wall of secrecy that had decended around the NHL. The first rule of Gary Bettman's NHL is 'Don't talk about the NHL'. They've become the North Korea of professional sports leagues. If you recall last year, the True North guys were reamed out by Bettman after the news broke that a deal has been made to move the Thrashers to Winnipeg. Coupled with the roasting Hulsizer took for the deal he was concocting last year (and deservedly so), you've got a situation of hockey Omerta. If this league had more transparency, it would have taken all of 20 minutes to clear this up, it might have even saved Jamieson a quarter million + legal fees....

  3. The best part is that this wasn't Greg Jamison from the San Jose Sharks, this was a guy from Winnipeg named Garry Jamieson. Someone got the name wrong this whole time and nobody fact-checked.

    Only the goddamned NHL.

He's actually a resident of Kelowna, B.C. (or at least his business is located there), his partner in this is a guy named Pluchinske who is from Winnipeg. I'm pretty sure that Glendale thought it was San Jose Jamison this whole time....

As I said on HF...Best...Christmas...Ever.... :winner:

  4. We might soon know about the two bids for the Yotes. Glendale's city council plans to look at them next month:

Funny how Glendale's concept for 'progess' looks so much like standing still. I will say the same thing that I said two years ago when it was said that Jerry Reinsdorf was seeking to buy the franchise...

...if there was a deal to be made, it would have been made already...

The reality is that this franchise is already mentally packing up the moving vans and picking out floral patterns for the new place...

For those of us that don't worship at the alter of the NFL, this would be...?

(Unless you were commenting on the colours of New Orleans Saints being black, white and pewter while the Cleveland Browns being Charcoal and Slate, I apologize...)

(Just noticed the photobucket name: norb_Taylor.jpg. Who the fail is Norb Taylor?)

  6. I am a total newbie when it comes to posting on forums and I was wondering about how to get the logos and images put under your posts. I see banners and logo collections and such underneath and I would like to put it down there. Could someone please show me how to do that and how do you get the one with the mini championship banners that are connected. I would really appreciate it.

Just to add to what AnythingChicago said, the signatures need to be on another photo sharing site first like Photobucket. You can use the URL from this site if you wish, but if for some reason the originator of the image deletes it, then your signature goes poof.

As for the mini-championship banners, you can request a custom made one from here...

    All-Sports Championship Signature Images

In fact, the entire Concept section has multiple thread devoted to avatar and signature custom creation by some of the talented members of this forum.

  7. Jackpot! That's what I was looking for, especially the accompanying article...

It might also be the case that rings were offered to the players, but only at their expense, and most passed (remember, most owners were extremely tight with a buck in those days). Or, it might be that players were given a choice of a ring and another type of gift, and few chose the ring. That, too, was a common occurrence in the first half of the twentieth century.

It's impossible to say, but it's obvious that players had begun associating championships with rings on some level by this time.

So it would seem that at that time it was an option for purchase, much like graduation rings today, which means there might be even older rings out there. It also explains why the practice seemed to have spread so quickly to other leagues and other sports. Now I'm curious about what is the oldest Grey Cup ring (which might in fact be 1928) or the oldest Stanley Cup ring?

  8. Seeing the 1928 Grey Cup ring (above) surprised me, I would not have thought they would have given out Grey Cup rings that far back. I looked back through this thread, and the only one that is older was a 1927 New York Yankees ring (sadly the picture no long posts. I should also note that a 1932 Yankees ring was mislabeled as 1923). This got me thinking, when were championship rings first given out? What is the oldest Championship ring out there?
