Thats not even true. When Calgary had black C on jersey before retro. More fans had 3rd jersey at the time aka the retro jersey worn more by fans than the home jersey at home games.  I been to some games myself. Fans themselves like the retro jersey more. Dont know where you get your info saying people like black C more, but fans love retro look even more. I seen it first hand.

Flames fan wanted retro back full time. Retro or 3rd jersey at the time was outselling the home jersey at the time.  For you to say Flames fans like black C more isn't right. Where did you get your info from. I got mine from seeing at games and knowing the city sold more retro jersey then home.

    Yes I am fans myself.

I don't live in Calgary now but based on the ppl I know fans definitely wanted a return to and lobbied for the reverse retro. Its a bit of stretch to say that the 2004 jersey was massively more popular than it. It definitely was popular in 2004 because it replaced some pretty awful jerseys including the pedestal and the black horse head thing which didn't make a lot of sense as a home jersey. The edge jerseys were definitely a step backwards.

"The striping up top is inspired by Seattle's hockey history and sets the course for new adventures that lie ahead - plus a sneak peek at future jersey releases."

Based on the article, it looks like these STH beanies are hinting at the striping pattern for the Kraken reverse retro jersey. The anchor might be a clue as well, but that isn't as obvious.

The only pro Seattle hockey team known to use northwestern stripes was the Ironmen in the mid 40s. It was a generic logo-less uniform that they might of used for one season. The sweater was two colour had a number on the front and featured a white shoulder yolk with NW hem stripes. It was identical to that worn by dozens of minor league teams of that era.

If this is the uniform they are going back to its a bit similar to the Devils "Jersey" which made little sense in terms of local hockey history. I'm sure it can't look terrible but calling it historical is a bit revisionist.

If not the Metropolitans the team the Kraken should be remembering is the Seattle Totems. They had championships the greatest player in minor pro history and they were the biggest sport in town for much of their existence. The franchise also has a selection of unique and absolutely gorgeous uniforms to choose from.

It reminds me of their recent mascot debacle. Fans were saying this was an easy layup. Instead of picking a mascot that represents the team name they went with the equivalent of a sea pylon. So wrong but even the fans are pretenders.

its "tap in" not "lay up".

I’ve heard that lately, and have been having a hard time finding proof. Yes, I know, no color photographs, but is there a written reference from that era? Portland teams are my jam, so, I’m super intrigued by this.

Written reference in papers and the pattern can be seen in some photographs. The first Rosebuds team wore blue and white in 1916.  Charles Coleman assumed the same was worn by the second version of the Rosebuds when he illustrated pictures for the Trail of the Stanley Cup book.

  4. The cardinal rule that should apply to any NHL team is that they aren't allowed to appropriate the elements that another team took years to build into their brand.  It also works in reverse. Uniform manufacturers and new team owners should not be allowed to ditch elements that franchises have built up pr decades or codified with Cup wins.

Lightning enough with this Leafs dress up.

Leafs go back to the same uniform you wore during your Cup years with the double hem stripes and bring back the multi striped socks.

Bruins - it was wrong going to a generic stripe template used by other NHL clubs when the RBK jerseys rolled out. Not that it looked bad but they had a unique pattern worn by Orr and Bourque which should have been retained.

Ditching your yellow socks was a sin.

Minnesota Wild do whatever you want with your uniforms as long as it doesn't copy another club. That said I like the North Stars reverse retro a lot.

    I wanted this Johnny

I hate the modern logo. It's ugly, poorly executed and poorly researched. The head is based on a caricature which was never stitched on a Canuck uniform or used in print. It somehow was plastered all over the internet after being uploaded to hockeydb years ago. This thing was not the WHL Canucks logo:

I think people like the idea of these Canuck logos, not the actual renderings.

I was never a fan of the WHL Canucks' basketball-designed sweaters. Very much like what the Dallas Stars had when they had their original Reebok Edge uniforms.  What the Canucks should have done was either put the Skating Johnny Canuck on the front of a V logo or relegate JC to the shoulders but go back to the original '45-'46 block V with a Millionaires-stylized CANUCKS inside the V.

Overall, the Canucks are finally embracing their WHL heritage with JC on the front in bold navy blue and kelly green colours. This is wonderful to see. Also, the first tie-down collar used by the NHL Canucks. This jersey will be a red-hot seller.

What exactly does basketball designed sweaters mean?

They finally put Skatin' Johnny on a jersey only to use the old version and not the new better version. If that's real it's like a joke on me specifically.

The new logo is based on the fake WHL logo and looks pretty meh. That said, this looks like yet another spinoff off the 60s WHL version and the legs look too large.

I'm a Johnny Canuck fan but I would have preferred one of their classic uniforms with the arched Canucks script on the front and JC logo on the shoulders.

I think it's just the lighting.  Pic from the draft looks like the usual shade.

The Flames have only used one shade of red on all their regular uniforms. Its exactly the same. The only exception was the winter classic barber pole which was darker.
