So forgotten underneath the whole entire 'Emery and McGrattan beating up one another' brouh-ha-ha was Daniel Alfredsson honouring his bet with Ottawa Senators owner Eugene Melnyk.

The two had placed a friendly wager on Saturday’s gold-medal game at the world junior hockey championship between Canada and Sweden. Had Canada lost, Melnyk had agreed to wear a gold Sweden jersey for one period during the Senators’ Jan. 17 home game against the Carolina Hurricanes.

Of course his teammates had to rub it in a little bit, with Jason Spezza saying his "heart looked bigger today" and Ray Emery noting he played with a lot more grit.

To me salo never looked right in an avs or oilers jersey. there again he had no business being in an Isles uniform to begin with even though i remember him most in an Isles uniform. Him and Soderstrom :puke:

Didn't Milbury reduce him to tears when he was with the Islanders?

something like that. don't remember the whole story though.

"How bitter can the battle be? Ask Oilers goalie Tommy Salo. Five summers ago, when he was with the Islanders, he took the team to salary arbitration. Salo was coming off his first season as a No. 1; he appeared in 58 games and won 20 for the weak Isles.

Islanders G.M. Mike Milbury, as only Mad Mike can do, spewed vitriol against his budding goalie. In Milbury's mind, Salo's mental approach was suspect, and he was in danger of losing his job to a rookie the next season. Milbury also said Salo was one of the worst-conditioned athletes on the team, and his performance was inconsistent.

Salo was reduced to tears. He won 23 games the next season, but the relationship was never the same, and he was dealt to the Oilers in March 1999."
