  1. Here's my idea of how it could turn out. You have 8 conferences with 16 teams each. That means 128 teams, only one more FCS team (Appalachian St. in this case) would need to move up for this to work. The playoffs could work two different ways. You could have all 8 conference champions for a 8 team playoff, or you could add 8 at large bids to that and have a 16 team playoff.

The ACC kinda falls apart here with teams going to the SEC, Big Ten and Big XII. They get back to 16 by gaining some of the remaining big east schools and some C-USA schools. A few Sun Belt teams go to the C-USA while the others join the MAC.

First things first, why would Louisville and Southern Mississippi go to the Big XII? Louisville already has a commitment to the ACC and So. Miss should stay at C-USA. Secondly, The ACC wouldn't lose any teams to realignment just yet. Finally, Notre Dame would never join a conference. All criticism aside, there might be a few changes to be made and it would look plausible.

This senario would happen several years in the future in which the ACC gets raided by the other conferences. Louisville would go to the more stable conference. I'll give you that Southern Miss isn't likely to join any of the big 4, but once their football team gets back on track, Texas- San Antonio and all the other C-USA newcomers won't stand a chance. And the only reason I put Notre Dame in a conference is for the 8 conferences, 16 teams per conference thing to work.

  3. The metallic silver helmets that the cowboys, panthers, K-State, etc. use are as ugly as helmets can get.

What makes them ugly? I think you're the first person to ever say that, so I don't know if you're being contrary just for the hell of it...

They just don't look good to me. I doubt I the only person who thinks that.

  4. Memphis Joining the Big East for all sports in 2013. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1057255-big-east-conference-realignment-memphis-reportedly-set-to-join-big-east-in-2013 This could be interesting especially, they're joing in football. Overall, this is a great pickup for the Big East because they improve the Big East in basketball and revive their rivalry with Louisville, which was intense in basketball.

Please don't link to bleacher report. In fact, stop reading bleacher report.

    Legit news source here.

I'm guessing the Big East is seeing the writing on the wall and knowing its only future as a football conference (if any) is providing a place for basketball-oriented schools to park their less popular football programs. I'd look for them to go after Kansas next.

Unlikely, since they have now reached 12 teams (effective 2015), which is what they were going for.

  5. And Rice and Tulane aren't getting any big invites because their football programs aren't good.

Speaking of Tulane, I see where Bob Toledo stepped away from the head football coaching position today. If all of a sudden Mike Leach pops up as their new coach then my harebrained notion of a longshot Green Wave-to-the-Big-XII scenario I discussed a few pages back doesn't seem so far-fetched. Again, a guy like Leach could pull in a lot of local guys not on LSU's shopping list and could gut the recruiting base for the 3 other non-BCS schools in Louisiana. Suddenly, Tulane has a *fairly decent* program, perhaps on par with Kansas and (assumed invitee) Louisville. Plus, Leach knows how to recruit Texas and wouldn't it be lovely for him to steal a prospect or two from Tech?

This is the kind of crap that festers in the unoccupied corners of my mind.

/ESPN orders the Big XII to not invite Tulane.

Tulane should've stayed in the SEC if they wanted to be in a major conference.
