Southern Miss picked up the Adidas grey corduroy option this year. Its odd to see a team named the GOLDEN Eagles not have any yellow/gold anywhere on the uniform.

These are actually a hold over from last year, they wore them against Western Kentucky.

But yeah, not great. Seems like it would be easy for Southern Miss to have a nice look with those colors, but outside of the current white jerseys they haven’t been able to do so since leaving Nike.

I wonder, is that possibly where they got some inspiration for the banner uniforms? Took the racing stripe idea and made it their own since Texas A&M got similar uniforms in the same year?

Yeah, I think that was definitely part of the idea behind it. Was very ill-timed though with Texas A&M joining the conference and giving them a uniform with such a similar concept.

Ultimately it all worked out though. Definitely intrigued to see what A&M rolls out this year.

I know.  It was a throwback to mid-70's.. except they got the pants wrong.. the pants worn in the mid-70's were either plain or had the double stripes matching the jerseys (and helmets at one point).. so if they want stripes on the pants and/or helmet, they should use the same double stripe featured on the jerseys, instead of ripping off the old Miss State look and being historically inaccurate..

    spacer.png

Interestingly, Mississippi State also wore very similar jerseys, but in the mid 80s (1984 and 1985 to be exact). Emory Bellard was the head coach of both those mid-70s A&M and mid-80s MSU teams, clearly he liked the style.

  4. Since the topic of the mobile site has come up: is there any way to rapidly cycle through pages (to jump back to the first post, for instance) without switching to the full version?

Usually the url will end with page-##. Change the numbers and you can jump to whatever page you want to.

  5. I'm sure Mike Bianchi will push UCF and USF to the Big 12. He wrote this idiotic article last June saying that UCF and USF should replace the two Mississippi schools in the SEC:

    http://articles.orlandosentinel.com/2014-06-06/sports/os-mike-bianchi-saturday-circus-0607-20140606_1_ucf-and-usf-ucf-football-coach-george-o-leary

It's a bit ironic now, seeing as both Mississippi schools are playing in New Year's Six bowls.

  6. I think Houston and Cincinatti would work. I've heard Memphis mentioned also, but I doubt that would work.

At the very least, they need to get a waiver from the NCAA to have a championship game with 10 teams. They don't even need divisons. Keep the current scheduling format at let the two teams with the best record play a rematch in the conference championship.

  7. This is getting a huge bump because UAB's football program might be shut down.

    http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/11959176/uab-blazers-coach-bill-clark-fears-football-program-shut-down

If UAB shuts down, could Conference-USA drop UAB for that?

    http://espn.go.com/blog/ncfnation/post/_/id/104283/uab-football-program-cant-outrun-past-escape-shadow-of-alabama

This article says they will. The C-USA would then have an even number of teams, but damn this sucks for UAB.

Actually, I thought Charlotte is a member of C-USA and will play a full-conference schedule next year. That would make it 13 teams and you get the problem the MAC has. C-USA should add James Madison or Liberty to even the number of teams.

UMass is leaving the MAC, so it will be back to 12 teams after 2015.

I think South Alabama is the logical replacement for UAB in the C-USA. Same state, program on the rise, etc...

  8. what happened to the psd/svg movement threads?

They were just un-stickied. You should still be able to find them using the search feature.
Searched and couldn't find them. Why were they un stickied?
I believe (and I'd have to check this when not on mobile) they were all merged into the combined TEMPLATES thread to reduce the quantity of pinned topics.

Bad move. That's going to make it harder to find .psd templates because people will have to sift through all the other types of templates.

  9. I don't think Dallas should change their color scheme and get rid of the silver-green for a basic silver. It's iconic to the Cowboys. Sure it may "be awkward with their uniforms", but it's as iconic as the star on top of those silver-green helmets.

If the silver-green is so iconic, then they should just eliminate the basic silver and use the silver-green everywhere. If they do that, match the blues, and give the blue jersey the same striping pattern as the white jersey, then they will have one of the best identities in the league.

  11. Under this scenario, the SEC and Big 10 have 16 teams each. Instead of splitting into two 8-team divisions, they would split into four 4 team divisions, with the division winner competing in a 4-team playoff for the conference championship.

For example, here's how the SEC would work with 16 teams-

    SOUTH-

    Mississippi State

    Ole Miss

    Alabama

    Auburn

    WEST-

    3 vs Rotating nonDivison Opponents

    3 vs D 1.1 non-conference opponents

    1 vs D 1.2 opponents

    Permanent opponents-

  12. Here's a little-bit more realistic vision of what college football alignment could look like in about 10 years.

The NCAA splits Divison 1 into 3 seperate football divisons, D1.1, D1.2, and D1.3. D1.1 contains the power 5 conferences, totaling 72 teams. D1.2 contains 88 teams, including the current group of five conferences (which I listed the alignments of), along with two more conferences from FCS (which I did not list the alignments of). D1.3 contains the remaing FCS teams and conferences.

Each divison has an 8 team playoff and a national champion, along with 10-15 bowls.

  13. Don't know if it's been posted yet, and also won't be playing until next year, but Biloxi has received a Minor League team from Huntsville. As a coast guy, it's a pretty exciting time to be from the Gulf Coast. No word on team name or logo yet though.

    biloxi-stadium_zps80b5c90e.jpg

What's even more exciting is that they're gonna be my Brewers' AA affiliate! Seriously, how awesome does "Biloxi Brewers" sound?

Local newspaper poll has Seabees as the top name. I like the Fighting SeaTurtles proposal myself. Basically the only thing official about the name is that it will include Biloxi.

    http://blog.gulflive.com/mississippi-press-sports/2014/01/seabees_fighting_seaturtles_wh.html

It will be cool to have a second team in Mississippi. The venue in Pearl is very nice, and hopefully this one will be too.

  15. If I'm not mistaken all conferences except the Pac-12, the SEC and the Big Ten have lost members. Could you ever see them losing a existing member in any of this mess? I could see Missouri as a big if, but I can't really imagine any others from the SEC or any in the Big Ten and Pac 12 doesn't really have anywhere else to go.

    Thoughts?

The SEC has lost members in the past. Swanee(now D-|||), Tulane, and Georgia Tech were once members.

  16. Bumping the thread; I don't know why people are so negative to the name change because personally, I love the name. Sadly, the logos also have a bad rap as well. The Pelicans logo sest are some of the best in the 4 Major Professional Leagues of North America and they just scream New Orleans. These two logos are my favorites from the identity.

    6144_new_orleans_pelicans-secondary-2014.jpg

    5127_new_orleans_pelicans-secondary-2014.jpg

I agree with you, but citing the two worst logos from the set isn't helping your point.
