  1. One guy was wearing a Ryne Sandberg jersey and it looked pretty good, the only way you could tell I was a fake was the MLB logo on the back was off, and also they don't sell current jerseys with retired players' names.

Maybe I'm wrong on this, but couldn't he have gotten a custom current jersey with SANDBERG on it? I mean I'm not saying it wasn't a fake, but I don't think that's evidence of it being a fake.

I don't think so. I'm pretty sure MLB doesn't allow you to customize current jerseys with retired players' names, managers/coaches names, etc.

The NFL, NHL and MLB don't allow retired players' names and numbers on customized jerseys (the NBA does, however). Pretty sure you can get an aftermarket job done from a place like River City Sports or any of the other sites that do post-purchase customizing, though.

Seems to only apply to the NFL's website. Retired player names/numbers can be put on jerseys bought through the team shop but not NFLshop.com. Why that is, I have no idea.

EDIT: Scratch that, some teams' sites seem to allow retired players and some don't, but NFLshop.com doesn't allow any of them. Hopefully someone in the know can clear this up 'cause I'm confused.

That's really stupid, then. What if a player with an extremely common surname (like Johnson or Smith or Jones) retires? Then the only fans who can get a customized jersey for that team have to be the ones without that name? Some guy named Jim Johnson can't get his name on a jersey then?

I believe it's through licensing of the Players' Associations, which retired players would not be a part of.

Right, but it's still stupid that a fan wouldn't be able to get a jersey with his name on it just because he has the same name as a player who used to play for that team.

haha. my last name is Smith (i wear 73) and i can't find anyone in any sport who ever wore this number. i have no problems.

  2. Ron Hextall wearing #72 for the Islanders for a hot minute....

...and one of him in no uniform, after one of his dozens of fights. I believe this one was after he beat up Lyle Odelein.

EDIT: That could've been after he attacked Chelios in the '89 playoffs for Chelios' cheap shot on Brian Propp, but I'm not sure.

hextall looks like he is ready to kill in net for the nords!

  3. i love gray facemasks.

    Me too.

I also love the original Nashville Predators 3rd Jersey. That shade of mustard was insanely cool and the 3D cat looked great on the front.

finally someone who loves the mustard jersey. i have one, but its too small to fit me as it is a kids size jersey. but i also love these:

  4. Blackhawks - I got the love for them from Clark Griswold wearing a jersey in National Lampoons Christmas Vacation. Plus the farm team plays in Portland.

Blazers - Oregons only pro team so I have to root for them, I guess. I dont really care for any team in peticular, Im more of a fan of certain players.

Redskins - Im actually pretty new to full blown fan hood for the Skins. I always rooted for them as my NFC team. My AFC team was the Jets, thanks in huge part to Curtis Martin (my favorite player all-time). But with the addition of Mark Sanchez and a few other players I hate and Rex Ryan, I just couldnt root for the Jets because I distanced them so much and lost my passion for them. I did some soul searching and realized I never truly like the team, outside of Curtis. With my love for the Redskins as my NFC team it was an easy transition to their fandom. Plus no one would question wether or not I was a bandwagon fan (because I never want to be one of those), based on a move to a perennial losing squad.

Rays - I never really had a baseball team per say. I went to a Dodgers game once and my mom loved the Braves, but neither of those rubbed off on me. There was however a young franchise that always caught my eye. Im not sure if it was the gradient logos or the signing of childhood favorites the Crime Dog Fred McGriff and Wade Boggs. Maybe it was the pure hatred for the Red Sox and Yankees (and the Jays, but on a smaller scale) and their idiot and/or bandwagon fans, that got me passionately infused with the team. But for whatever reason, they stuck.

Incorrect. the Portland Pirates are the Buffalo Sabres farm team. the Rockford Icehogs are the farnm team of the Blackhawks.
