Voting has closed in the public poll to help the University of Louisiana-Monroe determine a new nickname for the school's athletic teams. The results were as follows.

Warhawks - 2,731 votes - 21.7 % of total votes cast

Bayou Gators - 1,873 votes - 14.9 % of total votes cast

Bayou Hawks - 1,307 votes - 10.4 % of total votes cast

Bayou Bandits - 1,118 votes - 8.9 % of total votes cast

Bayou Bruins - 1,104 votes - 8.8 % of total votes cast

Aviators - 1,015 votes - 8.1 % of total votes cast

Bayou Raiders - 848 votes - 6.7 % of total votes cast

Bayou Buccaneers - 740 votes - 5.9 % of total votes cast

Bayou Storm - 586 votes - 4.7 % of total votes cast

Marauders - 521 votes - 4.1 % of total votes cast

Thunderbirds - 442 votes - 3.5 % of total votes cast

Thunder - 304 votes - 2.4 % of total votes cast

The advisory board charged with selecting a new athletic identity for the university will now meet with representatives of Rickabaugh Graphics to determine which of the top vote-getters represents the best option for establishing a new brand for UL-M sports.

I knew that Warhawks would be the most popular choice since it still ties into the Indian identity of the university. However, I think that the logo is going to be a bird.

Looks like ULM's equipment guys may be in the same situation as we were two years ago when we got new logos and a new name (Troy State to Troy). I just hope that he won't be getting new helmets in the Monday of the game week just as we did. However, we got brand new helmets straight from Schutt, so we had to put in facemasks and padding, as well as put on the decals. Man, it was a doozy.
