Triple-A baseball has scheduled a press conference for tomorrow to announce the creation of a championship game between the winners of the International League and the Pacific Coast League, starting this year.

IL president Randy Mobley declined comment on the topic of the press conference yesterday but admitted that he would like to see a championship game between the two leagues.

"Even though [the Triple-A championship] in Vegas lasted just three years, and we haven't played it since 2000, it never has been off the radar," Mobley said. "It's been something the two leagues thought was valuable to the classification.

"The format, the location, the structure and the other details that go with it have bogged us down the last few years in making it work."

The championship game would be held at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark in Oklahoma City, Okla. It would be called the "Bricktown Showdown" and be the first meeting of the league champions since the Triple-A championship was held in Las Vegas from 1998 until 2000.

ESPN2 will broadcast the one-game, winner-take-all contest to be played on Sept. 19.

"The one-game championship that we have talked about would be different," Mobley said. "But sometimes different isn't all that bad."
