Brian in Boston
New Haven's new Northeast League franchise (relocated from Pittsfield, MA) will be named the New Haven County Cutters. A logo, team colors and uniform designs are in the process of being developed. The team's General Manager, Tim Kelly, said that club officials opted to go with Cutters despite the fact that Mud Sharks was the overwhelming choice of fans in an on-line poll. He added that the franchise liked the dual meaning of the Cutters name: according to him it is a reference to both Coast Guard Cutters (the United States Coast Guard Academy is in Connecticut, albeit in New London) and "cut fastballs".As for the New Haven County place name, Kelly said that it was chosen to help in marketing the club to the entire region.Brian in Boston
