The Spectrum (Philadelphia)

A fun fact about this one: they chose "SPECTRUM" because the letters spelled out stuff related to the arena. (I think they asked Gary Busey to think up something. )

SP = sports / South Philadelphia

E = entertainment

C = circuses

T = theatricals

R = recreation

UM = "um, what a nice building!"

When the pay channel PRISM (Philadelphia Regional In-home Sports & Movies) was launched a few years later in the mid-70s, its studios, production and master control facilities were at the Spectrum, and since almost all of the home games for the Sixers and Flyers were on this channel, people joked that you needed a "prism" to see the "spectrum".
