BlueSky
Forgive me if this has been mentioned (edit: duh...just discovered it was, briefly, in the SB thread this year) - I actually meant to bring it up right after the Super Bowl - but Super Bowl confetti has changed over the last few years (yeah, I know...only on CCSLC, right?). Around the winners' podium/stage, it's now in the shape of the Lombardi. What reminded me today was a clip from the Saints' victory where the confetti was the usual rectangles and was red, white, and blue. Then the Packers and Giants had the same colors but in the trophy shape. The Ravens got the trophy shape in their team colors. But even the NFL must want to save money because it's not all the confetti. It's clearly rectangular in the Ray Rice pic. Sport
I think it may be a coincidence that the confetti matched the Ravens colors. Purple and gold were the colors used for all of last year's super bowl events. Had the 49ers won I think we still would've seen purple and gold confetti. I never noticed the lombardi trophy shaped confetti though. Nice touch.
The Golden One
My guess for the reason of some rectangles and some Lombardi shape. Is they used the Lombardi shape around the podium when the trophy is given to the team and the rectangles just the general for everywhere else.
