  1. Expand the Big10 and BigEast both to 12 teams, so they can have conference championships

    Big Ten:

    Ohio State

    Penn State

    Northwestern

    Illinois

    Indiana

    Michigan

    Iowa

    Michigan State

    Purdue

    Wisconsin

    Minnesota

    West Virginia

    Big East:

    Pitt

    Louisville

    Syracuse

    UConn

    South Florida

    Cincinnatti

    Rutgers

    Central Florida

    East Carolina

    Memphis

    Akron

    Temple

I know you are an Akron fan, and I am a University at Buffalo fan, but there is no way Akron gets in before Buffalo.

UB has more students (28,192 v. 27,380), a larger endowment ($410M v. 133M), in a bigger market size (1,170,111 v. 694,960) and is a member of the AAU, which Akron is not. There are only 3 AAU members that field a FBS football team that are not in a "Big 6" conference Rice, Tulane and UB.

The only thing I think Akron has over Buffalo are better athletic facilities, especially the new stadium. That is obviously a major factor, but I think UB would get in before any other MAC school.

Yeah seriously vmd9, what the hell are you smoking?

  2. Anyway, FanHouse came up with an interesting idea in this post: have the MLB work like European soccer, with an A league and a B league - contenders go in the A league, and underachievers go in the B league.

Good luck getting fans in Major League cities to pay Major League ticket prices for a team that for all intents and purposes is considered Minor League.

    -Dan

The only way this works is if say the playoffs consist of 6 "A League" teams and 2 "B League" teams.

Which would be stupid for a lot of reasons.

    Exactly.

  4. I don't know about you, but I don't think anyone would consider the Big Ten tournament in Indianapolis a step down from MSG.

Actually, I think several people would think a tournament in flyover country is indeed a step down from playing at MSG.

    Hey, we're not that bad!

EDIT: Also, we get the Final Four once every 5 years is it? MSG is home to the NIT. Talk about big time. :P

    Yeah that would be awesome...

If the Big Ten tournament was played at Lucas Oil Stadium. Only it's at Conseco.

Fair enough. I was talking about the city itself not the venue.

  6. If it's say Mizzou, then it works perfectly:

    Illinois

    Iowa

    Minnesota

    Missouri

    Northwestern

    Wisconsin

    Indiana

    Michigan

    Michigan State

    Ohio State

    Penn State

    Purdue

If it's say Pitt though, it begins to cloud up some more. This is how I would do it to keep the IU/Purdue rivalry together. Also remember that in college basketball, you'd play the teams inside your division twice as opposed to once outside of your division. This is why you cannot split up Michigan and Ohio State (IMO).

    Illinois

    Indiana

    Iowa

    Minnesota

    Purdue

    Wisconsin

    Michigan

    Michigan State

    Northwestern

    Ohio State

    Penn State

    Pittsburgh

  7. What about rather than splitting the conference into divisions they would instead play the season as they do now and then at the end of the year the two best teams meet in Indianapolis or Chicago for the Championship game. Do you see that working out in any way?

    The biggest two issues are:

    1. You wouldn't play everybody

    And more importantly:

    2. How would you break ties?

With a divisional format there's always head-to-head games for tiebreakers and you play the relatively same schedule.

  8. i dont see how/why a big 12 school would want to go to the big ten . my opinion may be (and probably is) biased as i live in nebraska, but it just doesnt make sense. the level of competition has proven to be much higher in the big 12 .

Zing! So if Mizzou continually gets passed over as far as the better bowl games go, they should go to the Big Ten to create more revenue from going to a better bowl game.

Also if Mizzou's pissed at the Big 12 and their revenue sharing, then leaving would be a good idea.

  9. Isn't there something in all the Big XII's team's contracts with the league that if they leave they must give 2 years notice and will receive no money from the league's revenue sharing... basically committing Athletic Suicide?

If Missouri's rumored complaints are accurate, this is not exactly a huge hit. The two years notice issue is slightly more problematic, but it can be worked around.

For all I know, this could be completely wrong, but this is what I have heard in the past.

  10. Isn't there something in all the Big XII's team's contracts with the league that if they leave they must give 2 years notice and will receive no money from the league's revenue sharing... basically committing Athletic Suicide?

For this reason (and throwing out the AAU thing) Louisville and UC would be perfect fits for the Big Ten IMO.

But, because of the AAU thing, IMO Pittsburgh is really the only candidate here as I don't see the Big Ten going after Rutgers. Syracuse could work, but IMO they wouldn't leave the Big East. Also, getting an up-and-coming MAC program could be a possibility (i.e. Central Michigan) but I don't think they'd have the athletic budget to compete.

    Just my two cents.

  11. Why don't NFL teams celebrate championships as much as the other sports? Don't see too man pennants / flags / trohpy cases / etc.

Maybe because many stadiums aren't designed for the hanging of banners or flying of flags?

Gillette Stadium's the only outdoor one I can think of where they actually hang banners.

  12. I always thought it would be cool if someone did basketball requests for your normal athletic shorts with piping on them if you get what I'm saying. Like someone making a top and the bottom for these shorts (obviously on a Paint template):

    coolshorts-and1-style1.jpg

Thanks if someone would do something like this (once again obviously Paint-compatible :P ).

  13. Well, now that we have NFL and NHL Paint templates would anyone be interested in NBA ones for Paint?

I think I am going to do College Basketball, with vmd's basketball template if he doesn't mind

Before you start, you should just put out an SOD template to start with.

well he's template actually looks like SOD jerseys, but I am going to modify it a bit for the ones that aren't SOD, but it will be a while before I post 'em, because I am going to wait till football season is kinda out of the way

    That's fine.

I guess with the SOD comment i meant putting the silver (for most teams) part onto the template.

Well duh, I am not going to leave that off

I meant just releasing one before everything else with the silver part and nothing else if you get what I'm saying.
