LOL, well you would think, but that's not a sure bet either. you'd be surprised by how often the "ignore it and it will go away" tactic is used

  2. theres a couple of nice options for Columbia there. my favorite probably being the first, i think those colors are really strong and it uses good icons; the star (for being the capital city) and crescent moon.

i would automatically eliminate anything that uses 6 stars for the city colleges. i dont think thats a very strong concept and its something that could possibly change over time, then the design has to change

i really like the black "monochrome" look in football, especially these 3 teams, and i wouldn't change anything drastic about the uniform. (just smaller logos) most say "at least add a stripe to the pants" but doing anything that is more traditional kinda kills what makes these special. they look like something between Batman and a ninja— there's definitley a body suit look to it and it still looks futuristic to me. its more "track" than traditional "football" and i think thats probably where the hang up is for most, but thats part of the appeal for me.  and theres a "bad guy" connotation to it that is emphasized during night games.

theres also a practical element where because the uniform is void of large striping, the numbers become the focus and really attract your eye. compare those above with the Bengals version where because there are so many elements and color hits everything competes against each other. another unpopular opinion: i like that "loudness" of the Bengals uniform, but its certainly not as good of a uniform as the other 3

This is my Montana flag concept. The bison skull has been used as a symbol of the state of Montana for many years. In Native American cultures, it symbolizes prosperity and gratitude. I used "big sky blue" and yellow trim similar to what is used on some current Montana flags. I added a star to the bison skull to represent Montana's statehood.

Previously, I've used a simplified bison skull where the left side imitates the outline of the state. But this stripped down but still more realistic skull fits better, I think.

i teally like this design but my concern is how will people feel about the skull? is that connection going to be made between it and "prosperity" or the opposite? it usually is a symbol of death

I regularly browse Dribbble from time to time and lo and behold I find this:

    https://dribbble.com/shots/3298937-Sic-Em-Bears

This is interesting to me because a while back, I posted the very first rendition of that minimalist helmet on these boards. Some users approached me about sharing it to which I replied they could simply trace over it. My line of thinking was that it was a design that really anyone could have come up with so why not let others have fun with it, which they apparently have. But that's not what bugs me about finding it on Dribbble. I take issue with it because as an outsider, it disappoints me that someone on the inside would post this level of work just to pad their own profile. Maybe I'm wrong, but I think that if you get invited to a community of that caliber, you should respect the game and post your own ideas instead of piggybacking off something you found on the internet.

i haven't seen your design, but are you sure this is the same one? i think a lot of people might arrive at a very similar design taking the minimalist direction. that said, if you offered it up as a free resource then, yea its fair game. that also said, dribbble is no longer a community of the professional or exceptional. whoever this person is, its only their second shot of the site and yes, obviously passing this design (if its not his) off as his own is shady at best. im assuming he just doesnt know any better and theres no harmful intent there, so maybe send him a message if you would like to be credited. which you deserve to be if you wish.

its a cool "trick" to highlight the chord progressions in the songs but it ignores tempo and timing – probably other things as im not so good with music theory. but if you think of chords as colors, then in context, you don't really pick up the similarities because the differences are greater (don't confuse with "more") and thats what makes those songs (or flags) instantly recognizable and memorable. similarly, you dont confuse Italy's flag with France, or Germany, Russia, etc.

That's true. I was using a colloquialism that, strictly speaking, is not correct.

These rules for flags make intuitive sense to many people; that's why they emerged. It's analogous to the rules for chords in Western music, which codify patterns that many people instinctively find pleasant.  So when there's a violation of one of these rules, it's only natural that this should run afoul of someone's aesthetic sense.

Furthermore, it is silly to claim that adherence to these well-founded vexillological standards would lead to identical flags, as there is room under the rules for infinite variation. Likewise, the tonal conventions of Western music don't result in compositions sounding alike.

im with you 99% (great music analogy by the way). im actually in favor of breaking the rules from time to time. Russia's flag or Haiti's being a great example of how a slight bit of color clash can still make for a great, memorable design

I love basketball uniforms with a logo on them as opposed to a wordmark. It can be a refreshing change of pace.

    im totally with you there.

the problem though is usually (and this photo is a great example) that there is a lack of hierarchy and/or contrast between logo and number. here, all the numbers and logos are the same size and most of them the same color. an extra problem here is that when the logo and numbers are the same color, theres this 1 stupid thing that makes them different, not in a good way but an ugly, oversight kind of way – like the Texas number having a white stroke. why!? and personally, i prefer a symmetrical logo in these applications.

  9. yea keep em coming OSV! ive also found the digital vs analog world to be very different. some people can bounce back and forth seamlessly, one of my instructors in college could do this. i swear its hard to tell her digital apart from her canvas stuff, but i've never been able to even blend colors that well on canvas.

    Zion, yea its a Mustang.

  10. the Raiders, Giants, Bills discussion inspired me to write this: Simple Vs Boring - http://brandmooreart.blogspot.com/2015/09/graphic-language-simplicity-vs-boring.html

"The Giants’ uniforms are also simple, and their effectiveness comes from their uniqueness and quirks in the design, mainly all 3 of their jerseys designed with only 2 colors for each. It is a smart, unique, and beautiful way to design a uniform using the most common color palette in American sports: red, white, and blue."

  11. The best part of Fraser's work getting stolen all the time is that he's literally made a class on how to design like him, step-by-step. For $10 I'd greatly prefer to learn to emulate his style than face a lawsuit over it.

exactly, he has put out all the tools and advice to style things the way he does and instead of a ton of people emulating him, a ton of people steal from him. i mean, it would be funny if i didn't feel so bad for him. Fraser is one of the industry's very best and i wish the world were more fair to him.

  12. Fraser's work must get stolen every week. we constantly see examples of this kind of thing. most of the time it's not worth making a court case about. i don't know if this would be one of those times or not either, but if merchandise is being sold FD could claim all the profits the logo has generated.

  13. problem solved without legal action. in an email from Behance. . .

"We have received your DMCA request and have forwarded a copy of it to the project owner and have removed the content you reported from our public gallery."

  14. just a situational update, i filed an abuse report with Behance. i read through their terms of use and it didn't say anything about the actions they would take in the matter, just the typical "you agree work is yours and original" disclaimers and how to go about the process. i'll assume the work will be removed from behance, which is al i'm really after, and/or user profile deleted.

  15. Those weren't the only adjusments. As previously mentioned, he tried changing the mouth and whiskers as well. Must have thought that constituted enough change to pass as his own. Failing miserably in the process.

no, he didnt re-draw anything, it's just a cover up of the star and color adjustment. i never kept files of the original logo release within the shield, which is the one he ripped.
