I have a terrible feeling these will be FAR better than what Washington actually rolls out.

My best guess at this point would be that the new name will either be Commanders (gross, generic name but they are recent URL domain name registers that are hosted from the same company that operates every NFL URL and trademark applications that suggest this is indeed the new name) or they simply keep it Washington Football Team (even though I know they stated they would not do this).

No matter what, they’re going to look like a team playing dress up as the Washington *blank* of old.

Some guy knows a guy, who knows a guy, who knows a guy, who knows for certain the new name for Washington will in fact be “Red Wolves” and the team is writing a check to Arkansas State for use of the name

I've also been hearing these rumors too. Furthermore, Washington has been hinting at this since June. It could all be a ruse to disguise their real chosen name, but who knows.

Sorry, not impressed. I'll give them credit for beating Baltimore, but I'm not going to jump through hoops to validate their win streak against mostly below .500 teams with barely backup worthy QBs.

But yeah, final 2 games for them will be very  telling.

Winning 7 straight is impressive regardless of their opponents. Miami can only play who’s on their schedule.

This is the NFL. Those are still professionals out there. Anybody can beat anybody on any given day. Though it isn’t surprising to see a biased Patriots fan downplay the accomplishments of one of their rivals lmao.

    Cowboys win 56-14.

I know the WTF’s were decimated by injury and covid, but it was still nice to see the Cowboys offense finally wake back up with the defense continuing its stellar play.

They thoroughly spanked an outclassed opponent like they should. It was hard to believe the scoreline at times lmao. Not used to seeing that from the Cowboys, like at all. I’ve seen them get beat like that many times in my life, never the one dishing out that punishment.

Hopefully they continue this improved play next week and into the postseason. The Cowboys won’t get to play a deflated and depleted team like Washington every week (nor in the playoffs), but if all three phases execute their game like that, the Cowboys are absolutely a Super Bowl contender.

Please stop defending :censored:ty reffing just because it hurt the Patriots.

He was dragged down after he stepped out of bounds. "minimal contact my ass".

Lmaoo, you're biased as hell here. Hughes Jr. barely pushed him and tried to hold him after Mac started falling. Hughes never once brought his arms down in manner that suggested he was trying to pull him down.

I mean, who the hell tries to pull down a player from behind while their arms are completely straight. That doesn't even make sense mechanically.  Hell, even Hughes' elbows were pointed down with his arms straight, another sign he was trying to hold him up.

Once you take off your Patriot colored glasses and cool down after watching the Patriots lose control of the division to the Bills (lmao), you'll see what actually happened. Hughes Jr. gave Mac a push, realized it probably wasn't the best idea, grabbed him to stop him for going head first into the benches and tried to hold him up as Mac was falling.

Go watch videos of people actually trying to pull someone down from behind and watch the difference.

Apparently in the NFL you can make contact with the QB after he's already out of bounds.

The worst part isn't that they flagged it, it's that they picked it up.

Brady & Rodgers get that call 100% of the time. Prove me wrong.

Stop it. That isn't a penalty.

It's minimal contact and if anything, the Bills player was trying to hold him up after giving him the slightest of pushes. There have been tons of egregious penalties and non-penalties in the league this year (go back to the Hawks-Rams game or Browns-Packers game just in the last 5 days) but this isn't one of them.

FTR, Patriot fans complaining about penalties after years of having Brady as their QB with all of the advantageous penalty calls they've gotten and their two decades of football dominance is a bit like a spoiled kid complaining they only got a Lambo on their 16th birthday instead of a Ferrari.

I have no idea who will win the AFC. Green Bay is snakebit, so I fully expect LA or Dallas to win the NFC.

    This is a weird season.

Completely weird. A lot of good, but flawed teams and not a single great one. There's legitimately 8-9 teams that could realistically win the Super Bowl this year. It's as wide open as we've seen in years. 2014 was probably the last season that resembled this.

It does kinda feel like that if the Packers don't make the Super Bowl this year, then they never will again with Rodgers as their QB. Everything is setting up for them.

And for the Cowboys, it also sorta feels like if they don't at least reach the NFC Championship Game, they never will with this core.

The Niners look surprisingly good, while I would also consider a Saints run. I also wouldn't count out the Seahawks should the Saints falter. Arizona seems to be fading a bit, which isn't a good sign.

You can count out the Seahawks. They're done.

For them to make the postseason it would require the WTF's, Eagles, Vikings, and  Saints to completely drop the ball (Eagles and the Team With No Name still have to play each other twice, and each get to play the Giants again) AND because of the Hawks basically already lost to every team above them in the Wild-Card race, they'd need to pretty much win out. Unlikely considering they still have to play the Rams and Cardinals on the road. Plus once you factor in that Russell is not playing like an elite QB for the first time since probably his rookie year, it's really exposed how bad the Seahawks truly are. Wilson has been masking how bad they've been for years.

I actually think the Eagles or WFT will get that last spot, though my bet's on Philly making it as the 7th seed.

I literally just stood in the standing section at that stadium for the USMNT game six hours ago.  I'm not a Galaxy fan (MNUFC here), but I had to roll my eyes at the incredibly biased description you gave of the stadium in Carson.

If they now have a standing section, that’s a recent addition clearly in response to standing sections being created around the league.

But as a born and raised Angelino, go watch a game in any other stadium in LA (hell even in Anaheim too) then compare it to the Dignity Health Sports Park experience. Is it the worst place to see a game? Absolutely not. However after going to games in every other stadium in LA (SoFi withstanding) and especially the Banc, the Carson stadium is clearly on a tier below the rest.

Exactly. They weren't competitive (only made the postseason once and lost to LAFC) and their stadium experience still sucked. Didn't matter they had the best player in the league.

Which is why so many newcomer know-nothings root for LAFC! 😉 Kidding aside, I think this is the first time I've ever (mostly) agreed with an LAFC fan. AEG choosing to further entrench the Galaxy in Carson will look terrible in 20 years when the Galaxy are the '80s Rams to LAFC's '80s Raiders, with LAFC being the trendy team that plays in an accessible location while the Galaxy are the uncool others who might as well be Long Beach or Orange County's team.

It's very well on its way to becoming that. Even to this day, I'd argue the Raiders are about as popular in LA as the Rams if not more so. It's kind of wild that the Galaxy were among the first clubs in the country to truly get people to care about domestic soccer, especially in LA when they built their soccer-specific stadium which really helped them gain some legitimacy in the city (along with signing Beckham), but that decision in the long run will be their limiting factor in growing their fanbase. The fact that LAFC was able to come in and gain supporters in numbers that nearly rival the Galaxy's in just a few years should never have happened.

    Quote

I understand that the Sports Arena site LAFC managed to snag wasn't available to AEG when it was looking for places to build the Galaxy a soccer-specific stadium in the early '00s, and that downtown arenas weren't yet all the rage in MLS back then, but it's a different era now. On the other hand, AEG likes having its teams in AEG-owned locations and the taxpayers of LA will (correctly) never pay for a new stadium again, so the Galaxy are probably stuck in the South Bay. Even if AEG tried to annex the Farmers Field site into L.A. Live by moving the Galaxy there, I could see the city council saying "Sorry, but we already have a new soccer stadium near downtown. Why don't you guys move in with LAFC instead?" (I'm being told that wouldn't be ironic because LAFC and Chivas USA are completely different things?)

The Galaxy are definitely stuck in the South Bay for the time being, which is why I think a stadium renovation is needed. Modernize it, update it to the current standards. Bring the stands closer to the pitch. Give your supporters a standing section. Just got to get rid of that late 90's/early 2000's AYSO feel the stadium currently has. LAFC's stadium experience is still the best in the city (although I bet SoFi is really nice too. Haven't been to a game there yet) and encapsulates what many of us desperately wanted for a soccer club in the US.

    Quote

Aha! You're an LAFC fan but you just admitted that Carson is in LA! I have you now!

We all know LA is just a conglomerate of small cities that we really just treat as neighborhoods. It's just fun to tease y'all.

    Quote

You snobs already took FC so we'd only be able to be LA United anyways 😝. To your point about the name, my head canon has always been that Nike named LA's team the Galaxy because the league wanted to have a premier, star-studded team in a city that made so many contributions to the aerospace industry. I know Nike just wanted to emphasize how there's a "galaxy" of celebrities in LA, but I'd much rather see the stars play soccer (the sport 🇬🇧 Los Angeles Football Club 🇬🇧 plays) for the Galaxy with the branding reflecting a space theme. Emphasize the unique shape of the quasar! Sneak five stars into an updated crest by making them space stars instead of championship stars! The potential bandaid solutions are endless!

But would those updates help gain new supporters? Or would they simply just be popular with the fans you already have.

For me, what I'd do in I was in charge of the Galaxy, to maintain relevance and significance as LAFC continues to get more and more popular would be to build a new outstanding stadium in a better location (or renovate your current one), slightly update the crest (but  keep the name; that brand is still very strong around the world), start signing the Beckhams of the world again (the Galaxy would still be a massive draw if they were still winning with stars) and compete for titles again.

Also, there was post on the LA Galaxy subreddit about a month ago in which users discussed a private meeting the Galaxy held in Culver City with a select group of invited supporters. At least one fan received a pre-meeting survey about "soccer in the Brentwood area," though multiple attendants said that club representatives pushed back on any talk of relocating out of the South Bay region. The main topic of conversation appears to have been a brand refresh, with a few commenters mentioning the addition of stars above the logo as being one of the big ideas presented by the team. Certainly sounds like the Galaxy's marketing department has realized that it needs to do something to maintain relevancy after the past few years of LAFC being the bright, shiny object in town.

Unfortunately, instead of entertaining the obvious solution of moving to a more centrally-located part of Los Angeles, the Galaxy seem to have settled on updating their logo as their response to LAFC's erosion of the Galaxy fanbase and capture of new fans who were indifferent to the Galaxy's (pretty innovative and important) first 22 years of existence. Absent a new stadium in West LA (where there is no space) or L.A. Live in downtown (where AEG could have already built a new Galaxy stadium in the cancelled Farmers Field space if they wanted to), I'm not really sure what the Galaxy could do off the field to keep up with LAFC's successfully-astroturfed, hipstery brand. Maybe move into SoFi Stadium in Inglewood and limit capacity to 35,000? Or, keep the LA name but move to a waterfront stadium in Long Beach? I guess if AEG is committed to staying in Carson then doing more stuff like last season's teal-and-black Community Kit and less stuff like getting rid of the home kit's iconic sash would be a start.

The Galaxy’s main problem is despite being the leagues premier club and its most famous club (especially to the rest of the world), they have failed to capture the city’s most passionate and fervent fans because they have an incredibly boring (and stale) brand/fan base which is coupled with an increasingly outdated stadium and poor stadium experience.

How do they fix that? I do like the suggestions you have, but it seems AEG doesn’t understand that.

If they do insist on staying in Carson (which was and always has been a terrible location for a professional team), that stadium needs upgrading. Badly. It’s not as poor as the Coliseum was, but since that’s being renovated and no longer a tenant of a professional team, their stadium is by far the worst to host a professional team in the entire city.

If someone knew nothing about the history of soccer in LA, nor the teams who play here, based purely on LAFC’s stadium location and the Galaxy’s, you’d assume that LAFC was actually the premier legacy club of the two.

A branding/crest update (they shouldn’t change their name at all) isn’t a terrible idea, but that feels like the equivalent of putting a bandaid over a single hole in a sinking ship.

A win is a win but God; Dak was dreadful. Even Stevie Wonder could've seen that pick-6 was a horrible throw, and a horrible decision.

Yeah he’s just been off since he had that calf strain. I think he’s had a total of 6 quarters since then where he looked like the Dak we saw during the 6-1 start, the elite MVP caliber QB. But he’s definitely just not quite right.

I hope that after playing the Giants, WTF’s, and Eagles he can fix it before the postseason. This team is good enough to make a deep run this year, especially with the defense. The offense just needs to get back to what they were earlier this year

  13. Micah Parsons is unbelievable. I can’t say enough good things about him. He’s been utterly sensational for the Cowboys. I was so against the pick, but now I’m eating my crow by the truckload.

Not only is he the lock for defensive rookie of the year, he should be the front runner for DPOY. Unreal.

But this offense has me worried. It’s been bad ever since Dak hurt his calf. He’s just not seeing the field well nor is he throwing well. If they don’t get this fixed in a month, they’ll lose that first playoff game to the Rams.

  14. So sick of the Cowboys.

Yes the officials were awful, yes the Raiders were the overwhelming beneficiaries from the atrocious officiating we saw, and yes the Cowboys are missing a ton of players, but if their damn kicker makes an XP, they win the game.

Until this team actually shows something in the playoffs, I ain’t expecting them to do anything other than maybe, maybe win one wildcard game then get bounced in the divisional round. Like they always do.

To be fair, the Cowboys were also missing 5 starters but I’m also damn sick of these Cowboys falling flat on their face every time they face a test. This has been the consistent theme throughout Jerry’s ownership once Jimmy left.

Now, I had this as a loss before the season started and nothing this past week leading up to it made me think the Cowboys were going to win this game. This is still a 7-3 team and one of the contenders. So I don’t think this is time to overreact at all.

But if they lose to the Raiders on thanksgiving, then some serious questions will need to be raised.

Fans were whining that Fox took the Dallas game off because it was a blowout. There's just no pleasing some people.

Take the 40-point win and be happy about it. They're 7-2, still first place in the NFC East, and you're whining that you didn't get to see Dallas swallow Atlanta like they were a boa constrictor because they were up by 40, and Fox made the decision to change to a more competitive game.

Cowboys played angry today. Like they were out to prove that last week was an aberration. It didn’t really matter who the Cowboys were playing next. They were going to blow them out.

Kinda feel bad for Atlanta, at least a little bit. The Falcons just happened to be that unfortunate team who the Cowboys played next.

That blowout loss to Denver might very well end up being a good thing, a good lesson in humility, in the long run for this young team (tho I’d have preferred the Cowboys to not get that lesson in the form of a blowout loss lmao).

I’m still not used to seeing this aggressive of a team coming from the Cowboys. Under JG, they were always the team that would let up and give up massive leads. This was as impressive of a beat down as I’ve ever seen the Cowboys lay. I know it’s just the Falcons, but beating a professional football team 43-3 is kinda nuts.

This is by the far the best game I’ve seen the Chiefs play all year. Play like this on a regular basis and I think it’s safe to say that their demise has been quite exaggerated.

Completely agree. I thought that kind of commentary was really laughable. No one has really jumped out as the top dog in the AFC (could hear an argument for the Titans tho).

Chiefs are still very much a contender in that conference.

  18. That whole crew tonight should never be allowed to officiate an NFL game again. I’ve never seen a ref purposely hit a player with his own body and then call a penalty on that player for “touching an official”.

    How absurd.

NFL refs have been downright awful for the last half decade but that was the most egregious example of it, and most unprofessional NFL ref, I’ve ever seen in my life.

Corrente has a reputation of being the worst NFL official and even he took that another level tonight. Disgraceful.

  19. 28 minutes ago, DNAsports said:

Oh, my mistake. I meant the past two seasons he’s played, lmao

In 2018, he was 4th in the NFL in sacks and posted the second best sack total of his career. So he only has had one “down” year.

    Quote

Also, saying Miller is “still a really good pass rusher” is essentially acknowledging that he was once great, but has regressed. He’s on pace for single digit sacks for the second straight playing season, his tackles have been steadily decreasing, his TFL is pretty stagnant, and QB Hits are decreasing.

This isn’t true. He has 4.5 sacks in 6 games. With 9 games left in the season for the Rams, he’s on pace for 11 sacks this season. Might even get more now since he’s playing for the league’s best pass rushing team.

He’s no longer a DPOY candidate, and on the wrong side of 30, but he’s still an elite pass rusher and now playing along side Donald and Co. he’ll be lethal as the 2nd best option. I ain’t saying he hasn’t regressed, but you’re acting like he’s washed up, which he certainly isn’t.

  20. 8 minutes ago, DNAsports said:

He’s been regressing significantly the past two years

Hmm, what? Are we just saying things now? Lmao.

Miller didn’t play a single snap last season.. and in 2019 despite having single digit sacks, he was still top 10 in QB pressures. This year before missing the last two games, he was again top 10 in QB pressures.

He’s definitely not what he once was, but he’s still a really good pass rusher. Saying he’s regressing significantly the last two years is pure hyperbole especially considering he didn’t play at all last year lmaoo.
