One thing is for sure - the shade of green the Eagles use sure is fugly. I wish they would change their uniforms back to the ones they wore during the Randall Cunningham era.
We’ll at least get to see what those look like this year.

A LOT of concepts with the horns on the helmet. Sure some of these are probably first page of Google searches, but I wouldn't be surprised if they are teasing the elements they are borrowing from these "concepts"
The horns definitely seemed prevalent.
Though that’s up there for most done thing with integrating the Arizona flag into concepts for the Cardinals.

It’s worth pointing out that teams are allowed to have a second helmet now, and with the benefit of starting from scratch with a redesign, the Texans could conceivably have a “clash” set with a completely different color scheme from the main set.
Maybe the main sets sticks with navy, but the alternate goes all in on Luv Ya Blue?
I’m not saying it would or should happen, but it could.
It’s a good point, we are just re-entering a time where teams can have another helmet (3 if the Eagles get their way).
Last time they did this teams only really did one alt a year, and I think maybe only for 2 games instead of the now 3.
It’s certainly going to open up some stuff like that.
Not just Eagles going all black, or Bengals going All-White. But could totally see teams do that Alt colorway take on their unis for a season or two, then scrap it for another. (Merch Money would have the owners’ attention)
Would be a very NBA move, and I’m sure most results would be hated here ha.
Will be interesting to see full 4 uniform sets built with these new rules.

There was a good sneak peak article on this site on what next year's logo may look like.
Check it out here for those who haven't seen it already
https://news.sportslogos.net/2023/01/30/first-look-at-super-bowl-lviii-logo-in-las-vegas/football/
But here is the mock up someone drew from memory
It'll be interesting to see the actual logo come out, but I think this tip is legitimate. I'd expect more gradient throughout the logo as with the last two. I'm guessing we'd see mostly purple and black throughout, and maybe some other colors with the background with the skyline and the welcome to Las Vegas sign.
That looks great.
It’s been weird to see the NFL actually find this happy medium starting last year. That 58 one looks like a nice evolution

Let the speculation run rampid! I know this much: that darker gray got to GO.
With that, the Eagles bringing back the Cunningham/Reggie era jerseys as an alt…would be awesome if Nike could figure out metallics for once.
Get some actual silver pants.

The Eagles need a change so badly. But another SB berth in this set - and maybe a second win - probably kills that possibility. The “midnight” or whatever they call the green is so drab and lifeless.
Hopefully there’s a tweak next year to coincide with the Kelly Green’s coming back + the new Wordmark. Though could see them dragging it out over two seasons to max the merch.
But yeah Midnight green is here to stay, especially if they win again in it.

Let me make another bold prediction. The Eagles will keep the black helmet, and add a Kelly green helmet when the throwback jerseys are ready. They’ll decide to keep both, because honestly what’s stopping them. The NFL will then okay teams having an alternate helmet and a throwback helmet, as though they were ok with it all along
You want to bet against it?
Yeah, I wonder if the idea is to just grandfather the black helmet in, once they have it it’s harder to say no to it staying. That’s even if they cared to put that much into it.
Wonder if they debut a new black uniform that uses the Kelly design as a base / that green as an accent color. Would be a way to add more uni combos and make that color more of a part of the brand.
Essentially one of these types

the word was it might take till ‘24 to get the new wordmark on the jersey since it might count towards the “2-year lead time” thing. I don’t recall reading anything hinting at any kind of redesign.Yeah it could just be that. There was some talk that there could be more, even just a main logo tweak to be more in line with the new Wordmark.
My bad I remember some of them talking about it but might’ve just been misinterpreted by the community.

do you have sources for any of this? They absolutely petitioned for multiple helmets so that they could do Kelly green throwbacks, but is there anything that states that they’re trying to have three helmets and doing a redesign for ‘24?Straight from Lurie’s mouth on the first one
Says it could be a one year thing but want to keep them.
https://youtu.be/mL75AfksGyw=345The later was moreso inference from beat writers saying Wordmark was step one and changes would occur in 2024. It could just be logo tweaks, but seemed like maybe a little more. I’ll try to find some of those.

Eagles announced a black helmet for 2022 a while ago but haven’t unveiled it. They chose a black helmet this year because they have a jersey they can immediately pair it with.
From what has been implied, the kelly green helmet will replace the black helmet in 2023.
Important note: Lurie and the Eagles are petitioning to keep both.
If they are only allowed one Alt helmet they’ll go Kelly next year yes… but their aim is to have all 3.
They reportedly are getting the whole look tweaked/changed in 2024, so that decision next year will impact that too. -

Is there any sort of 5-year rule for helmets, like jerseys have? Or is it a free for all like pants and socks?
Would assume as long as it’s an alt it’s free game every season, right?

I’d love to see an actually designed full eagle that isn’t just the current head plopped on the retro bird’s body as a new alt logo if they are indeed refreshing those too.
but I am a sucker for this style too

Is the Eagles now-former wordmark included in the logo slick as a "jersey-only" logo since it'll be on the jersey for up to two more seasons? While it's the Eagles own fault for knowing the rules and messing up their timing (or, not messing it up but just planning poorly), it seems like a minor-enough change to be allowed to get done after this season. Not sure the manufacturers would need much lead time to put a different little patch under the collar. I more feel for all the fans that just bought AJ Brown, Reddick, and Dean jerseys.
If they are making a change, I’d assume finally hearing about the one-shell rule going away was one of the major factors into deciding to do it, hearing if they can indeed use 3 will also factor into the finally choices.

I get huge NY Jet vibes from this.
Eagles can either choose Black or Kelly Green. They can't have both.
And yeah, the new wordmark sucks. Reminds more of the Patriots changing their wordmark from something so beautiful into something so incredibly generic.
Will always be some level of overlap. This would be a like once maybe twice a year look, would be fine and different enough if they did something like that.

As for the Eagles’ wordmark, I similarly like it on its own, it’s a nice refresh that feels fitting for the team. However, in keeping the old eagle logo & presumably the old number font, I imagine the wordmark will look quite out of place. It feels like a half-measure when I would have preferred them to try a complete refresh.
I think whenever they do the refresh positioning the Kelly green alts will be a big part of it. Lurie fought for that for awhile and will want to take his victory lap.
Have a feeling it’ll be like the chargers a couple years ago but more options with the helmets. Even more if the league let’s them keep and use 3 like they want. Could see them use stuff like the black helmet with the white top and a version of the black pants as a rare combo. Really depends on how lax the league is.
Eagles 2023/2024?
Helmet: MG, KG, Bk
Jersey: MG, Wt, KG, Bk
Pants: Wt, MG, Retro Silver, Bk, Bk2
Socks: Bk, Retro, All Bk / Bk with retro bands
Shoes: Black/MG, Wt retro, Black/KG
As I said in one of the above posts, I think the switch greens for the black uniforms.
Kelly Green has stayed super popular within their merchandise for a long time, actually integrating it back in on the field will be big.

Eagles wordmark feels very generic. I wonder if this foreshadows a bigger overhaul. I’d like them to lean more into the midnight green and charcoal. Eliminate the black.
It could be, I think it could also just be preemptive to adding the Kelly green next year as an alt.
It fits both colors, kinda evokes the retro wordmark but with a modern flair.
Also obviously works with Black too
And since we heard Kelly was coming back but they might only allow one extra helmet…I’ve wondered if this is what they might be doing. All black with the Kelly green helmet. Even if they can keep a third helmet the Kelly actually works with the black opposed to the midnight.
Just brings the color way more into their branding. They’ve used a more neon version of it the last bunch of years kind of setting the groundwork.
maybe it leads to more changes though yeah for the home and away.- 4

Was coming to post this, previous one has been in place more or less since 96.
New one will definitely fit better for stuff like the end zone, banners, social. Last one wasn’t perfect but fit with the whole look, curious if more changes are coming soon. It’s fine, not an upgrade or giant downgrade. Without the notches I think it’s kinda a nice subtle modern take.
As much as I’d like to see them refresh their look, if the plan is to have the numbers all have a notch out of them like the E’s…I’m good.

That’s it. If they aren’t going to wear it more than twice a season, why not make it inverse of the white jersey? Fans wouldn’t notice; they don’t even know they use different blues.
(ironically, the first half of my question answers the second half, but the point still stands).
I’d take it I’d suppose, much better than being so mismatched.
Which when you think of it is what the division does aside from the eagles for their home and away…kinda odd
Cowboys - Totally different Blues & silvers, as well as StyleCommanders - totally different style and color palette between the home and away
Giants - Red numbers and stripes compared to their all blue home jersey
Philly would need to move their white/away look to being devoid of green like the Commanders and gold, or Giants and blue. Or do Kelly green instead of midnight like the cowboys do.

How about allowing K/P to wear any number?
Would take away the easy money they’ll keep getting to switch ha.
But yeah it should be ok for them to wear anything outside 50-79 I think too.

Really in line with other men’s brands, which is a lot of their users I’d imagine.
Like go to the men’s products aisle at Target and this fits right in now.
