Washington Commanders to debut new NFL identity
Bill0813 replied to DCarp1231's topic in Sports Logo News
As a fan since the 70s, my thoughts are still disjointed as this terrible look. The team is burgundy and gold, period. Hate BFBS. The "W" on the front of the black helmet is a "L." Washington Falcons colors on the away jersey. Two years into this and they're still making it up as they're going along. No mascot or fight song - the fans will help come up with all that. -

Snake skin or black digital camo? The latter would make more sense; neither look good. I do not like BFBS here. -

Good call. That said, ask anybody to name 5 famous buildings in DC, the Library of Congress hardly leaps to mind. -

Since geography is optional, I thought left is supposed to represent the Pentagon for the "Commanders." -

Jefferson memorial has a plain dome and is in the wrong position on the "skyline." My guess is nike making s------tuff up. For the Nats, it's the White House, Capitol, Lincoln., and Jefferson. -

Left is the Washington monument, center is the Capitol; I have no idea what that dome on the right is supposed to represent -

A "wife beater" is the derogatory name for a tank top, but I always thought the tops were white. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sleeveless_shirt -

Except that's not how it went down. https://www.nbcsports.com/northwest/seattle-seahawks/how-bob-whitsitt-tricked-steve-largent-giving-jerry-rice-seahawks-no-80 How long before someone breaks open a case of Commanders gear at a sporting goods store and lets the news out early? -
They compare it to PNC in Pittsburgh. I don't know why they didn't move the lower bullpen next to the ivy wall instead.

Orioles GM Elias confirms 1,000 seats to be removed. Here are renderings.
-
From the photos I've seen, it looks like 14 rows removed. It could be that a few rows may be removed only temporarily to protect them during construction but it could still be easily 10 rows permanently removed. 1,000 seats gone? It's been several years since there's been a capacity crowd, so not a big deal. OPACY was 8th overall in terms of seating, but many of the newer parks have several thousand less seats by design. STH have already been notified. There are more HR friendly parks than Camden, but it's still above average, so analytics was a part of the decision. Some of that is due to lousy pitching and some may be due to that Hilton monstrosity that was built a block behind the park changing the air currents. I'd say it's much more of the former. The team leases the stadium so the Maryland Stadium Authority picks up the tab (from state lottery revenues). It's harder to find pre-Hilton 2008 images but here's one where you can still see the iconic Bromo Seltzer Arts tower beyond the light tower in LCF.

The LF wall at Camden Yards is being pushed back up to 30' and the new wall will be 12' high in some areas. https://twitter.com/masnOrioles/status/1481767781968355333

Since there's debate about whether the Ravens were an expansion team, consider that Modell tried to acquire the Colts name from the Irsays for $5M. The Irsays countered with $25M, so no deal was struck. Had he been successful, team historians, where would the Colts records from 1984-1994 belong? To the renamed Indianapolis team? https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/2022-nfl-coaching-carousel-tracker-nagy-zimmer-flores-out-updates-latest-news-and-rumors-on-firings/ -

I found the photo in a Richmond newspaper article https://richmond.com/sports/professional/did-the-washington-football-team-accidentally-tip-its-hand-on-what-the-new-name-is/article_86202619-d101-5e63-815e-0273dbe7c226.html -

I don't know about 100%, but there are some saying Washington is pulling off a clever misdirection. Others are saying, they aren't clever at all; it's the Commanders. -

It would be an opening for Ah-nuld to buy the team. Terminators would definitely be a trademark issue, but... -

Well, if they left it up entirely to the public you'd get the football equivalent of Boaty McBoatface. 0r not. Washington was an Army General, so the whole Admiral thing doesn't work. Obviously not the Washington Generals either. Even if they weren't the Globetrotters perennial whipping boys, you have the USFL Generals. I don't get why Wolves by itself is a trademark issue when you have the Minnesota Timberwolves. -
