  1. See, I would think the opposite because if hockey is your thing, why wouldn't you want to help the local team flourish and celebrate with the people around you?

I dunno, maybe I don't like the people around me. You don't seem to like Hawks fans very much. Maybe I don't have delusions of grandeur about the importance of my support and just want to like who I like without crediting myself for helping them to flourish. I mean, I was banging the drum for a return to Winnipeg when everyone else wanted the Coyotes to go to Hamilton, but I haven't done anything to help the Jets other than the pennies they get from my Gamecenter subscription. I'm not important.

My initial point with this was showing solidarity with a comment similar to something Infrared posted a while back about broadening your fandom reach. Doing so would help out some of these dire spots. Not trying to sell it as a panacea, of course, but a little bit from a lot of people could go a long way.

And really, if you were goaded a bunch by any fanbase, especially unprovoked, you'd be pretty salty as well. But that horse is long since dead by now.

Anyways, if the Yotes do end up somehow staying for a while yet, I wish they'd go back to a logo and color scheme similar to the inaugural batch. Let's get some green and orange back in the Pacific.

  2. I think there's more honor in half-taking up a team from afar because you like their players/uniforms/city than there is in adopting a team because you move near them and they're there. I don't want sports Stockholm Syndrome.

See, I would think the opposite because if hockey is your thing, why wouldn't you want to help the local team flourish and celebrate with the people around you? Sure, a Winnipeg-Dallas thing wouldn't work, but as long as it's interconference, I don't see much potential for cognitive dissonance. But again, this depends on the enthusiasm of the fans. But even a retention rate of 10% would be massive.

  3. SN: How long have you been a Coyotes fan? What got you into hockey?
I was born and raised a (Boston) Bruins fan. ... I used to be die-hard Bruins fan and now this is my team. Love them or hate them, I support them.

So what jersey do you wear to Bruins/Coyotes games? She said in an earlier answer mentioning the Super Bowl, she was from New England and would kill for those tickets. Are you a Cardinals fan now too?

In regards to this point specifically, I've come to believe if snowbirds would end up giving their local teams a chance then we wouldn't have to worry about attendance numbers and local support as much. Sure, it might not make much sense for a Wild or Jets fan to cheer for the Ducks if they moved to California, but I hardly see the harm in a Flyers or Bruins fan going to a handful of games throughout the year and rooting for Getzlaf and company while buying a hat or shirt. Then again, I'm dabbling in sports polygamy so I'm a weird one.

  4. So I have a question: Would the mods prefer that we make a new thread for a topic we're not sure people would participate in and just let it run its course? Or would it make more sense to have a sort of 'suggestion' subgroup where we bring up topics we'd like to start a thread with and then go about creating them if we get the necessary number of participants? I was thinking about bumping the 'What are you drinking' thread but then I thought it would be kind of senseless if I was the only one contributing and then another VictoriaGooner situation arises.

  5. Haha, Ice Cap is laying the thunder down now. Boom!

On an aside, I'm surprised at how well the Preds and Flames have done out west. Considering they haven't had much sustained success either way, I wish them well. Just not when they're against San Jose or Detroit.

Well the Flames just broke an 8 game losing streak, so I think the magic might be running out in their party.

True, though I was referencing their time at the start of the month before realizing their streak was as long as it was. I guess the Jets have stolen some of their luck as a surprise team now.

  6. I once saw a cake at the grocery store with a James Harden wallpaper I had made on it. You can spot my watermark on the bottom right. Delicious plagiarism.

Do people just not care any iota anymore about blatantly ripping off someone's creative work? Clearly they don't but the audacity of some of this is just frightening. Hopefully, everyone can follow Slapshot's and BrandMoore's advice and prevent these scumbags from profiteering off others works.

  7. I think the Capitals should go back to the blue and bronze color palate. Red, white and blue is overused and it's something that would fit the geography of the team, while being slightly differentiating.

While I appreciated this look, I believe that their current red, white & blue look is much better. I will say that I actually prefer the old Wizards jerseys with these same colors as opposed to the red, white & blue Bullets knock offs.

I wonder if it would be a good idea to blend both of Washington's color schemes. Red, Blue, White, with Black & Gold as trim.

No, the red would probably muddle things too much. Either stick with the gold or swap it, but don't do both.

And yes, the Hawks sweater is pretty overrated. Top 5, I could understand, but 'best in hockey?' Nah.
